  1. Hi Carl, I believe that Michele is still in NZ I spoke to her shortly after the sad news about John. When I get my notes sorted out and put into some kind of journal I will send you a copy. As you can expect yours and your party’s names come up quite a few times.

I was only reading this morning about the time when we all became hydraulic experts trying to get the anchor back onboard. I remember how one trip you where sat about amidships just about level with the galley window. You had mates on either side of you so you where constantly looking for and aft to see if anybody was catching anything. I thought it was quite funny and I remember Michele commenting on it as I went for a cup of coffee. I put in the diary Michele has suspicions of Carl being a tennis fanatic in his spare time. might mean nothing to anybody reading it but it makes me grin all the same, another little note that I had for same trip was “Michele says why cannot all our customers be like Carl and his party she says they not only do all the washing up, but accept a poor trip as an occupational hazard..

Am so pleased to see that you still love your fishing and will sort something out for next year.

    Regards

HE WAS A TENNIS PLAYER..HE ONE MANY A GAME...GOOD STRONG NECK MUSCLES....MUST HAVE BY NOW,,AS THEY SAY LOVE ALL

  2. thanks for the reply.

i will give it a go.

im just doing some research before i go.

    many thanks

    Lovely beaches to fish..

GT Yarmouth North Fish on the incoming tide...lots of snags

    HORSEY..Good

    SEA PALLING..Nice with the stones

CART GAP..One of my best places easy to get to and fish

WALCOTT/BACTON/TRIMINGHAM THEN UP TO CROMER ARE ALL GOOD FISHING UP THE TIDE...then you go around the coast and find even more nice places.

  3. I certainly don’t think that I am clever Paul, and what mark exactly is it that you seam to think that I have overstepped?

The question that I was trying to get an answer too was, when you appeared on national TV did you give in your opinion a truthful account on what you and your anglers caught when fishing from Whitby?

    Regards.

No he did not..but would you in his place..he's a boat to run John??

  4. It's the best way to hold the bigger fish. I'ts too easy to get a nick from the teeth or gills which can go septic.

Lovely fish...yes Paul Dyble is just down the road from me and he as like he say's been fishing for years...they have a very good fish shop at scrabty/caster..good on him to catch...do nice bait as well...fish are all ways nice and fresh...and they do charter trips..think the fish may be a long line fish but dont take this as read..this time of year is for the cod on long line.

  5. well done Ivan..he will be missed, but life as to go on as they say..I was gutted when I heard of his death..I was only talking to him a few days before..cheers Graham

  6. Alan could be right with dust thing but it isnt often you would get 2 subs working together the other light could even be a diver working, cameras are positioned down near the sea bed on production platforms i worked offshore for quite a few years up in the shetlands and in the southern north sea back in the 80s the divers would often say they had had a bit of fright when a big cod would come right upto there snorkal when they were working but all the same still nice to see those big cod they are still about even off our coast.

    paul.

They have a COD in the BERGEN Sea Centre and they reckon it weighs a 100lbs..got photos and it doe's look so but it as no deep colour too it or marking as a nice fresh fish you see from the North sea...them cod from the fords in Norway are all different colours..think its where you are..some are Yellow,brown,orange/red,black,but they are all healthy fish

  7. Perhaps you could elaborate for us, at the time is it not the case that if the skipper say's it was that much, it was that much.

All the time i have been using charter boats the skippers word is good enough and is normally accepted. I had an instance late last year of a good fish so it was weighed by the skipper who conceded to us he did not know the accuracy of his scales, however he came to a conculsion as to the weight, when checked by another source, it was spot on. Same as pulling up conger eels, 't' bar them at the gunnel ask the skipper for the weight and accept what he has stated instead of fighting with the eel on board.

Yes you are right in what you say as to the skipper being god on the scales and size of fish etc,but when I got mine we had all the crap from certain people as to whether it was weighed right, the scales was wrong,so thats why I said you need scales etc that the asso use's,I hope to fish the festivals this year at Whitby on Achattes as I have been told Brennan will be back and he's got that boat now,,also do any of you want some manns shads in packets for a £1,plus P&P,can't wait till I catch another big one and have the same crap.

  8. Hi to you all on the topic and Ivan,Wildcard,Mike,JM,Barry..I find it hard to see why the Whitby Asso can't get you in (re a member of the boat asso) so you can fish with customers in the festival Wildcard..I thought more the better as odds go down.I would have thought that more boats/people in the Asso counts for more votes and say when it always comes back to the poor old RSA angler..perhaps I am wrong but I have been to Whitby enough times fishing and as a tripper and caught some of the biggest..more members the better....so all I can say now is good luck..don't know what the answer is..Graham

Also I would say now thinking about it,Wildcard,MIKE and Etc if you do join the Whitby Fishing Mafia get some good weighing scales as I was on a boat and caught a large Cod and they ran it down as to the scales we used and people weighing..we was wrong...thats crap. I had 12 good anglers with me and 3 good crew..so ask before you join if they give you a set of weighing scales.I caught a nice fish and the rest talked it down...very small minded was a few.

  10. Hi Wildcard and Mike,Challenge I know..lovely looking boat Mike, think that will do the job OK..I am waiting for John Brennan and his old tug to get going its more my speed.Challenge I spoke the other day with him and he was saying you and me with Ivan filming hes got another Wallace and Grommit movie coming along..I was going to say to JB he could sponsor Andrew and myself in the Whitby festival...but reading about Wildcard/Mike I think we will have to wait aswell...reckons hes off to see Paddy W in Aus before he comes back..but he as no body to look after the EMU.anyway back to fishing Wildcard/Mike if you can tell me trip lenghts and prices,I will look forward to coming and enjoy a good day out..hope it all go's well for you all..Graham

  11. I think you are right in what you say Ivan, but all the trips we have had together etc they are certain times of year in which the worms are there and then on another trip no worms in the fish,,,,so is there a time of year why these worms attack the fish???..like you say I have had nice herring to put in vinegar and some have and most have'nt got worms...some fish are full of them, just worth chucking in the bin and you pick the other one up it's a lovely free of worms fish???why..perhaps someone as an answer to this but it's been like it since I started fishing in 1965..when we are shooting and see the birds after.. some of them have good crops of food and others with nothing in there crop...but they all live in the same place...so is it something to do with diet for the fish...re food etc ..I don't know...when fishing out of southwold I find less fish with worms than whitby trips...but like I say is it the time of year.

  12. Hope you lot got over xmas ok...Carl and his team...and Ivan it's nice to know your about...but i must say that using single pirk with one hook will win you a bigger fish..you know that with what I have had the biggest for for 2 years so far..HAPPY NEW YEAR TO U ALL..HAVE YOU HEARD FROM JB,HE'S BACK IN TOWN...Rods Blazing as they say in the new year...CHEERS TO ALL AND HAPPY NEW YEAR...THE CODMASTER

  13. WELL A 94HR TRIP....IT'S GOT TO BE 60 EACH..BUT YOU CAN ALWAYS TAKE HOOKS OFF AND USE AS WEIGHT WITH HOOKIAS/SHADS ETC ON A TRACE..GOOD LUCK...NEVER DONE IT BEFORE..SORRY I HAVE HAVE..IF YOU NEED PIRKS WITH STRINGS AND HOOKIAS GIVE ME A BELL...YOU HAVE ALOT OF FISHING TIME TO FILL,AND IT WILL BE GOOD ON A TRIP THAT LENGHT..SO EMAIL IF YOU WANT ANYMORE INFO

    Good luck

    Dave

HI NEWT..Get some Loomis Rods on at the right price...otherwise its hard work,we have shops selling rods at £10 and they are good stuff,so trying to sell is hard work..I make my own range of Rigs for beach or boat but you will all ways get some one come in cheaper...over at the mo there is big shops/site selling stuff for peanuts,so how does the small man do..cheers Graham

  15. LOOKS GOOD CARL...nice trip,I see Dave,Rob and Lol look ok...please say hello to them....can't wait for a trip later if all's ok..had 300 poults stolen last nite or some time over the weekend...anyway the police are on the case..when are you going again...cheers to all..Graham

  16. Just spoke to Alan Redmond and he's up for a later trip..end of Aug/Sept as thats the time when we had nice fish..the other Graham is waiting for the all clear on his mum..mine mums ok now it's just the Pheasants ..but by then all should have gone to good shooting homes, yes I would love to meet with Carlos..love 20,Andrew,Charlie.the codfather and not missing out my main man the Gaffer(JM)

  17. I would agree with Charlie, single pirk for the big ones...a 4" twintail on each string hook will get them...or I used just a pirk with a single hook with a nice twintail on, and it worked with the teachings on the and from the master MR CHALLENGE....John M was a wizard at how the fish was coming on board ..and while people with hookias on were untangling you could get a next drop for the biguns and it worked for me on a number of times...just rang my mate the other Graham and he's up for a trip later once his mothers ok etc..I will book something later but should have been in tenerife for 16 days but only there for 3 as her indoors dad died, what an **** to come back ,ended up in Gatwick not Norwich..so as last post it's back to Pheasants etc..so wish your trip Carl good kuck

  18. HI SEE HE HAD A LOVELY LOT OF PIRKS...AND A NICE LADDER IN THE GARAGE...BUT DO YOU THINK PADDY WILSON HE WILL JOIN THE 30LB CLUB..I hope he doe's...the pirks looked good...and he's going for it..can't see me fishing this year as still on the pheasant's...hatching about 3300 each week now...got 3wks of eggs and then it#s move them to the buyers at 7wk poults...we have alot to go to earl Spencer at Northampton(Diana's brother)...I would like to see Carl with a big fish...he can have some birds...got about 20000 at mo..and about 3000 partridges....got some nice Red Deer to shoot later..so I will see if I can put a trip in...I had someone doing this before but it's me now they went tits up..next week its drill the cover crops for the shoots...so you 2 have a good go at the cod...still got some 6"white shads etc if you want them....Carl hookias you can have at 1.25 plus postage
