  1. the thing with twin pins (if they`re working right) is it picks up the line quicker (only a fraction of a second faster ) but in reality one pin pickup is fast enough ,two pins don`t wind line on anyfaster (as only one of the pins is in contact with the line) so any advantage is minimal

wouldn`t hurt too have a spare though

    Muchas gracias Chav .

  2. CaptainBlue is correct the 501,3,5,6,6m all fit each other ,they have a few names cowling ,wind shield ,spool cover etc i always keep one in hand ,as i`ve a tendancy too just throw me rod down after netting the fish ,as said E-bay is the place for spares ,just search abu 506

here is a 503 copper coloured one on E-bay

    good luck

cheers Chav. as usual you are in the know much obliged. i have seen a twin pin housing for sale. would it fit my 506 and would i get better performance than the original one pin supplied. Dan

  3. Try bending it back into shape. Otherwise I'm 99% sure the cover from the ABU 501, 503 or 505 fits.

    Might get one on ebay.

tried to bend it already but it fell from a high cupboard and is dented in bad. thanks for the info. Dan

  4. Hi. My ABU 506 fell out of my cupboard and smashed on to a stone floor. The gunmetal blue bell housing cover has been damaged.I dont know the name of this part.

Can anyone tell me where i might be able to obtain a replacement and what other Abu models

have the same size cover . Thanks in anticipation and tite lines. Danny

  5. Saturday night while sorting out my gear for the Timsbury Fish-in i picked up my bait apron from the shed only to find that it fell to pieces. No doubt due that in my carelessness i had packed it away damp and still containing the odd remnant of bait which the local mice population had greatly appreciated!

As a result yesterday i had to constantly bend down to my maggot box perched awkwardly on top of my shoulder bag when wanting to introduce loose feed which i found annoying and inefficient. My old bait apron was a cloth market traders style money pouch that i had aquired years ago.Looking in two local tackle shops this morning it appears that they are hard to find these days.In fact i got very similiar response from both shops, along the lines of we dont do them anymore as there are no float anglers left on the rivers!

Anyone know if such items are still available or even still manfactured? Im talking about proper match angler bait aprons here not the cloth money pouches

Hi there are a few advertised on ebay. just type in bait apron and you will see. tite lines Dan

  6. I've gone off Floatfish (despite recommending it several times on here before), it has terrible memory and after a while on a pin it end up all curly, making trotting pretty annoying. I've recently started using some great stuff, bought from my local shop. I'd never heard of it before and can't remember what it's called! Something like 'xenon'. It floats like a beauty and doesn't retain any memory. Apparently it's coated with silicone, making it extra smooth through the rod rings!

I'll dig out the name and put it here - it's a bit pointless recommending something if I can't tell you what it's called

We are all waiting with bated breath for the name. Our centrepins are ready to be tooled up.

  7. I normally use loop to loop but sometimes i attach a small swivel to the main line

then attatch my hook length around 15" by way of a palomar. i normally bulk my shot above the join

so when i get smashed (which i do fairly often ) i dont lose the shot. iI got done in at the Hampshire

Avon Britford this week by a pike taking my grayling and a massive sea trout nicking my worm and

storming off at a rate of knots and me running downstream after it till it boiled at the surfice and was

gone. thats what happens when u use a 2.5lb hook length. Keep on trotting. Dan :D

  8. It's a good trotting line but if you buy it test it with your knots first. I tested it with all sorts of knots and a set of scales and found with a loop to loop connection it was about 90+ knot strength. With almost all other knots it was 50-60%. The palomar and trilene knot were probably 90% too but I found them to be inconsistent sometimes breaking at much less than expected for no apparent reason.

This was the first time I had tested a line in such a way but it taught me a lot about lines and knots and now test every line I buy.

Interestingly Drennan lines seem spot on. I tested Drennan Float fish in 4.4lb and it breaks at 4lb almost every time.

I've found Shimano Silk Shock and most Maver stuff to be exaggerated by the manufacturer in terms of strength:Diameter.

  9. yes i've used it for a couple of years now ,its a very smooth casting line ,with good line pick up ,it does have a little stretch built in ,and its pink..... oh and it floats dame good

I read an article in this weeks Mail and i thought it was new to the market. So its been out for a while then?? As you recommended im gonna try some. i like the colour hahaah Cheers Dan

  10. Why not just fit a tip ring on and try it.

I think you should be able to get a suitable one from a decent tackle shop. Not to hard to fit and you have got nothing to lose except a couple of quid maybe for the new tip ring.

If you then manage to get a new section you will have a usable spare.

good idea Barry i will try that. cheers Dan

  11. I HAVE BROKEN THE TOP 3" OF MY 14' MATCH ROD . ITS A BROWNING AND I WONDERED IF I COULD GET A NEW TOP OR DO YOU THINK I SHOULD JUST GET A NEW TOP EYE WHIPPED ON. WOULD IT AFFECT THE HANDLING ETC.,DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I COULD CONTACT BROWNING IN THE UK... TITE LINES DANNY :D

  12. Dan

Got your PM and have E-Mailed you back.

I agree that everyone should fish Blenheim at least once in their life.

There's one guy who doesn't fish. Every year he hires a punt for the day, goes out in the middle of the lake, reads and sleeps.....I guess for him just to be there is a treat.

Personally, not being able to wet a line would drive me spare !!!

Hi Jak just a line to thank u for the info . its been a great help. Dan

  13. I have booked a boat with 2 friends in mid June. What advice about fishing this water could you give me. Re mooring the boat i have been advised to moor in the reeds and fish out say 3 or 54rod lengths. I thought it would be better to moor away from the reeds and fish close to them. Could any one enlighten me from their past experiences.. The target species are Tench and we will be float fishing so any advise on baits would be appreciated. Obviously we intend to take maggotts, worms ,bread , paste and corn. Tite lines Danny

  16. I use Fireline/FL Crystal (a type of braid) for trotting rivers - it floats and 'mends' easily and offers great 'pick up' when striking at distance...

    C.
