  2. hi i just thought i would let people know about a fisherie in tayside, my mates were fishing it on saturday, once they paid their money £15.00 for 4 hours they were then told if you catch any browns they have to go back. my mates then questioned this, they were informed that THE BOSS said this was to be done. the fisherie in question is CARLOGIE in carnoustie. you pay 15.00 for a 3 fish limit and considering the browns are stocked i think this is not on. we used to fish this place nearly every week, but with this attitude i don't think we will be back.

i look forward to your views on this.

    cheers

  4. What anglers coming to Scotland require more than anything is information about fishing venues, permits, prices and availability of bait. Here in Galloway we have some great coarse and trout (and sea) fishing but information for visitors is not good. Many places are charging exorbitant prices for permits for coarse fishing because they don't really care. As an example £5.00 - £10.00 a day to fish waters which are unmanaged and not maintained and probably have a head of wild fish (limited species) and never been stocked. In comparison I can fish on a commecial water in England which is well maintained and has been well stocked for £6.00 day. It also has facilities such as toilets. Access is another problem. There are many places where there is no access for coarse fishing as it is controlled by trout and salmon interests. I know of one spot on the River Dee near Castle Douglas whch is perfect for access and full of coarse fish such as Roach, Dace and Bream. However it is exclusively salmon fishing controlled by The national Trust for Scotland. This particular location would not hold any salmon and would never be fished by any salmon angler. Carlingwark Loch in Castle Douglas is another venue perfect for development and would benefit the local economy tremendously. At the moment it is fished primarily by 'holiday anglers' with inadequate equipment, is not controlled, and many fish are subjected to poor treatment. The loch could be stocked, platforms built and I believe the depth could even be increased which would help the blue algae problem and subsequent smell! This would benefit everyone. Many anglers travel through Galloway to get on the ferry to go to Ireland to fish, particularly coarse anglers. Here we have better scenery and potentially better fishing and there are no ferry costs involved. I have just started an organisation called the Coarse Angling Development Group whose primary aim is to lobby for access to coarse fishing venues and provide advice to land owners. I can be contacted on 01556 650122 or through my web site www.greenhousegallery.co.uk

    hi

since when are scottish wild trout waters stocked?. i have been fishing wild trout waters around scotland for years. in particular campsie and stanley. these waters cost £4.00 per day to fish and the fish are amazing. these waters hold a good head of trout , salmon ,sea trout , grayling, roach, rudd, and numerous other coarse fish. people who fish managed waters which are stocked are not fishing for wild fish. trout and salmon magazine done a study on where to fish for wild trout and guess what scotland came first by 70%. i have no doubt that ireland has good fishing i have fished the shannon for salmon on numerous occasions but you simply cant beat scotland.

  5. ive been mate and its bloody great. but you can't beat the scottish salmon, over in canada you are going to hook into fish all the time but here you have the thrill.

    cheers

  6. I have just been GIVEn a Daiwa 6/8 weight 2 piece fly rod. the rod is in a newish blue Daiwa bag and has the name of Super Fly (forget precise name but think this is it) But it is in excellent condition and as are all Daiwa fly rods is made in Scotland. Blank is VERY slim and brown in colour. Two stripping rings to butt section. Any idea of the value please?? I will come back with model later.

    hi chris

i seen one of these rods in malloch's of perth not long ago the price was about £50.00 this was second hand. so i would imagine that you would pay about £70-£80 for it new.

    cheers

  9. hi mate

try a team of three gold head buzzers {like mine} you will not go wrong fish them very slowly or under an indicator. personally i hate buzzer fishing especially under an indicator its too much like boring coarse fishing.

    cheers

  10. Thanks GUS,

I have mainly being going to Broom fisheries (Annan) and Moffat, so any advice would be appreciated, I am also open to adding to my fly collection, do you have a web site, if not let me know what you recommend and at what price.

Also, if you could recommend any other fishery in southern Scotland that would be good.

I live in Carlisle, so anything within 90 mins or so would be Ok.

    Thanks for your help.

  11. I found this rod whilst having a clearout of my tackle room which has had too many years of acccumulating

    unused tackle .

It was given to me several years ago by my uncle who used it on his local resevoir, but i never got to using it myself.

It is 9/9.5 ft i would guess AFTM 6/7 In truly excellent condition (photo available on request ) with the original cloth bag.

    Any decent offers?

hi mate can i see a photo of this rod and what kind of money are you looking for

    cheers

    Colin

hi colin no the jungle cock can now be imported from eu countries. i used to get my capes from fishermans feathers but the standard has dropped my client only expect the best in salmon flies and that's what i give them i will keep on searching. cheers anyway. gus

    hi mate

what would you be prepared to pay please let me know and i can see what i have got for you. cheers gus.

  14. Thanks for thj link, but worry that the vice will not be able to deal with large saltwater flies. I just hate it when the hook keeps moving around, but thanks anyway. terry

  15. Hi, I am going fly fishing at a trout fishery in Scotland in 2 weeks, could anyone tell me if a rod license is required in Scotland and if so were do I get it from.

    Thanks

    Steve

hi steve no you don't need a rod license in scotland you only pay at the fishery you are going to if you tell me the fisheries name i can probably guide you in what flies you should be using i don't think that there is a trout fishery in scotland that i have not fished do you need any flies being a professional fly dresser i can supply you with any flies that you need. many thanks gus.

  16. can anyone give me an opinion on the quality of the Masterline Powerhead Ultrfast Sink fly line - I've been offered on in WF7.

HI MATE THESE LINES ARE BRILLIANT I USE THE FULL RANGE OF POWERHEAD LINES BEING A MEMBER OF THE LONG DISTANCE CASTING CLUB I CAN ONLY SAY THAT IF YOU WANT DISTANCE GO FOR THE POWERHEAD. THE LINES ARE QUITE CHEAP WHICH ALSO HELPS IF YOU ARE ON A BUDGET, JUDGING THE PRICE OF FLY FISHING THESE DAYS WE NEED ALL THE HELP WE CAN GET. I USE 7/8 WEIGHT RODS AND ALL MY POWERHEAD LINES ARE 8 WEIGHT. HOPE THIS HELPS MATE AND SORRY ABOUT THE CAPITAL LETTERS. I FIND THIS EASIER. CHEERS, GUS.
