  1. Does anybody know where I would be able to find any information on a rod made by Ogden Smiths Ltd? I have one of their old rods but can't make out what the writing on it says. All I can see is Fly Rod - Ogden Smiths London - 9ft. There are other bits of text which I can't make out. There is a number stamped on the reel seat - was wondering if his could be some kind of serial number????

I originally bought this to be part of a static display along with a vintage wicker creel, but I am now wondering if its worth restoring it and using it.

    Any ideas/thoughts?

  2. Thanks for all the advice FF2, I have had a word with the farmer and he is happy for me to fish!!! Just waiting for my new 7' #4 rod to arrive :D. I'll report back on any catches:D.

  3. The only RT rod I have used is the MPX #8/9. Quite possibly the worst rod I have ever used. Joints were always coming loose, which never happened on any of my other rods and snapped near the butt mid-cast. If you are looking for a real cheap small stream rod, the have a look at the Shakespeare Professional range.

Thanks for the info. Think I'll stay well away from RT X-cite! Sound like a bit too much X-cite-ment for me :)

  5. Hi all. This is my first post on this forum so please forgive me if it's in the wrong place!

I have recently moved from London to Oxfordshire and am after some advice/help. The only afforadle place to fish around here is Farmoor ii and so far I have had 3 fish (brand new stockies) from 4 visits. The river Ock runs past my back door (well it's about 150 yards away really) and this seems like much more fun! The house I live in is owned by the farmer whose land the river runs through. What I need to know is how I can find out if there are any restrictions on me fishing this river, or is it just a case of me getting permission from the farmer?

    Any advice would be appreciated.
