  1. Thanks Niko

did you fit the rudder yourself ? any probs with fitting it?

I might be poping up your way once I get my yak for some fishing, is it your neck of the woods people have been catcin the tope?

    Chris

yep the tope are around here

i fitted the rubber myself the only fiddly bits were

getting the correct cable length ,and i discovered the original foot rests(just remove the lock bars) work better than the one provided in the kit

  2. Sorry Rob I havent I was after X Factor details , loads of people on hear with P13s so some one should be able to help you out

hi here ,if your up my neck of the woods (near aberystwyth ) your welcome to see my x factor with the rudder fitted

and weather permitting have a spin

  3. In a couple of years when I change my "drifter" this was the kayak I was going to get.

Had a good look around them in Plymouth's "Kayaks and Paddles" - what a lovelly build.

The hull is also guaranteed for a much longer period of time.

For the moment I am just dreaming of one!

    malibu have lifetime guarantee mate

  4. Hi Nik,

I'm not the greatest with computers but the address / link is - http://www.kari-tek.co.uk/html/roof_racks.html, as I said earlier I should have it fiited to the car this weekend so I'll post some pics. I've got a 4x4 on order and the good news is that the same kit should fit.

Chris, I've got the same paddle as Niko

    Cheers

    Karl

cheers karl ,get some pics up mate would be good to see the working parts

  5. Like Nico I've got the Crack of Dawn Rudder (infact he told me how to fit it) - I still cocked it up! The instructions that come with the rudder are useless, but theres some info on the malibu webstite, not the greatest but will enable you to fit it yourself. The last time I paddled one the rudder made a big difference.

Personally I can't lift it onto the roof myself, but this is because of a neck and shoulder injury, i.e. its unlikey I could currently lift any Yak onto a car roof, I've got round this by getting the Kari Tek Easy Loader - hope to finish fitting it & post some pictures of it working this weekend.

If you are ever up this way you are more than welcome to try it out

hi carl ,hope all is well ,

whats this loader? tryed google it came up with nothing ,do you have a link?

  6. hi mate ,

ive got an x-factor ,and find it spot on very stable and comfy ,also when at rest the footwells dont fill up with water like most other yaks

ive fished easterys headlands and open sea ,the rudder i would say is a must makes life a lot easier

simple anough to fit yourself ,its made by crack of dawn

i load mine(on my own on to the roof of a 4 by 4 )and yes its heavy but doable

would i recomend it?well put it this way if i was looking to by now i would still chose the x-factor over all others

its a brilleant very well thought out fishing yak

  7. Hi Niko ...

Best thing to do is have a look around EBay for a similar item.

You may not find the exact setup that you have got, but it will give you a good idea of what prices can be had.

Also .. you may be better off "splitting" the lot into individual items. People may not want a camera .. but they may well be interested in the lenses etc !!

    Wiggly. :rolleyes::rolleyes:

cheers mate ,i have already checked ebay, but wandered if worth doing privately as a kit as it would be a lot easier

  8. hi all ,hoping you could help with price on this lot as a package

    eos 10d

    battery grip bg-ed3

    28-105mm 3.5-4.5 usm

    75-300mm 4-5.6 usm

85mm 1.8 usm (now this is a cracker)

    50mm 1.8 usm

    2 batteries

    2 512 cards sandisk ultra

    1 256 card sandisk ultra

all housed in a zero-halliburton ali case

all the lens canon ,everything in good condition (a few marks on the case and comby lock broken)

    thanks nik

  9. i was looking at these when i picked up my x-factor ,great looking little yak and the malibu build quaility is excellent if i had the dosh i would definatly get one as a second yak

to see which shops stock them type www.canoe-shops.co.uk

  10. NIko. You have hit it on the head. Different strokes etc. I think its great that people are singing the praises of different Yaks. All have strengths and weaknesses and suit different needs. The only problem is that many people that are new to the sport buy into this myth that wider is more stable and this mistake can lead to lots of extra expenditure and a few unexpected dunkings.

The other myth is that the main reason for a narrow Yak is so that you can cover more distance or just get there quicker. The main reason for a narrower yak is so that you can handle tougher sea conditions when that suprise squall gets you. This was highlighted to me on my first serious trip out when me and Richi (very experienced paddler) was hit by 25-30mph winds (not forcast). Richi in the Caper could not make any headway and had to hit the nearest bit of shingle while the scupper allowed me to make it into a more sheltered bay. Luckily there was some shingle in amongst the cliffs for Richi to beach. Richi decided there and then that he needed a new kayak and his tarty love affair with the P13 was born. Narrower yaks also use less energy when paddling leaving more in reserve for that unexpected emergency. The down side is normally less storage space on deck and often a wetter ride. Is there a truly dry ride?

All this means nothing if your plans are to fish estuaries and sheltered waters. Here the Scupper is over kill and my next purchase, if I buy with my head, will probably be a shorter yak for inlets etc. Although my heart tells me that I could have a serious affair with a Dorado. A match made in He.............well enough of that the purse keeper still wants a new kitchen :-)

there loads off good points you have made there ,i do feel the need to add that a wide yak does not mean one with poor secondary stability i tested the x to try and find its tip point and i could not tip it

the water was filling the rod holders

,as well as the wide yak being more stable mith there seems to be a newer version which reads wide yak equall poor secondary and this is not always the case

,as far as dryer ride gos well its a water sport but with the x i stop paddling and the floor well stays dry ,and i know this can not be said of the prowler

to be honest the caper is no way near as sea worthy as the x factor but then the x is not as "rough stuff capable" as the scupper

varierty is the spice of life and all that

  11. I know what you mean, My Ocean Drifter was the same. Brilliant fishing platform, very stable but quite a barge to paddle any distance. Ideal kayak IMO if you did not have to go very far!

to be honest mate i would be fine paddling the x for quiet a distance it glides very well its not the yak stopping me ,its me stopping me !!!!

i would prefer to be fishing not paddling

i got the yak to fish from ,i am a fisherman who uses a yak not a yakker who fishes i think people who are looking to buy a yak need to think what the main use will be ,yes the thiner yak are faster but the space i have to spread out my gear is massive and as i say for me personally fishing comfort is a bigger priority then the ability to go futher .

    tight lines to all!!!!!

  12. dont discount the x-factor i love mine ,yes heavy out off water but not slow on

it makes an incredible fishing platform

if your first priority is fishing from it ,instead out paddling 10 miles to a mark then fishing(waste of fishing time imo :D ) then the x is amazing

i have paddled about 4 miles against the tide run and she handled it fine and thats good enough for me

  13. i just wanted to say a public thank you to kayaks and paddles

i buggered up the rudder on my x-factor and had the part on back order ,as it was taking so long to get the part they took it of one of there boats and sent it free of charge !!

i just though this kind of service should be known about as there are so many money grabbing companies about it great when you find people with such a good attitude
