  1. Hi I have been given a bunch of fly rods, nothing special but one rod appears a cut above the rest. It does not have the makers info on the blank, it is 10' and of a similar thickness to another 10' #8-9 rod I have. The previous owner does not know either.

Some where in the back of my mind there is some thing telling me it is made on a Harrison blank, (unground blank, carbon spigot).

How can I judge what weight line to use?

  2. Have a look at the Fox Predator Ultralite XS, 6'6'' 7-15 gcasting weight, not bad little rod realy. I have mine paired to a Shimano Stradic 1000FH. The rod was less than £50 and I picked up the reel second hand of the Bay for just over :D

  3. Both were good for 6ozs. Sport had a slightly stiffer tip and could lob 8ozs easily.

I had a new pair of Fireblade Matches in about 1996..think they stopped making them around 2000/01. Excellent rods for their time and will still do a good job now, even if they are a little heavy by today's standards.

I would not call them heavy, well not after useing my farthers old gear from the late 70's-early 80's. One old fiberglass floppy Shakespeare and a very old Daiwa Moonraker

  4. Hi I have just been given a Century Fireblade rod but there are casting weights marked on her. what would they be, also does anyone have any idea how old it would be. I have tried Century twice now but as yet have had no reply.

    Many thanks

    Chris
