River Lambourn - Shaw

0915 - 1130

Cool & bright. AT 1º-6ºC. River low and crystal clear as it always is!

11 Grayling. Best 1lb 7oz with another 4 in the 10oz -1lb class. 4 Brownies - a 'pounder' and 3 small-uns.

Usual tactics of catch a couple and move on - though in most swims it was catch one and move - apart from the very last swim I dropped into which accounted for nearly half of the morning's catch. Rather busy with other anglers - though, thankfully, I'd fished (and caught) from my favourite spots before they rocked up....

Nice haul, Chris. I feel sorry for the grayling, as it seems heavily pressured. They must all have been caught hundreds of times, so must find those maggots irresistible (well, yours, anyway!)

They do see a lot of anglers (mainly thanks to the Anglers Mail that did a write up on the place some years back!)  - but can honestly say only one of todays ladies showed signs of being caught before (damaged maxillary). I do think it's no surprise though that I always get my bigger ones from the less accessible swims i.e. one where you need to get in a wade! Mind you 2 of today's anglers weren't troubling the grayling - as they were chucking lures around!
