Alders Lake - Thatcham

1800 - 2230

Warm and overcast. AT22º->20ºC

1 Tench; 1lb 11oz. 1 Roach, 4 Perch - all small ( but not micro-small!)

A very frustrating evening as I repeatedly had sail-away, unmissable bites which had me striking at thin air! Still can't decide whether it was signals or small fish taking the shot - suspect the latter as the bait came back unmolested! Dusk eventually saw some fish actually hooked but the only one to put a decent bend in the rod was a feisty male tinca which punched well above its weight! A very, below average evening!

Oh, Chris. Welcome to us mere mortal's world. I fished a really blowy Willows the evening before for 1 x 7lb common and 2 x 2-3lb tench which I felt didn't merit a blog entry. Trust some blackberries made it more worthwhile for you.

BTW do you agree with my theory that fish fight harder in the clear water of Alders as Willows, for example, is so turgid they cant see where they are going?

Hey 2 tincas always warrant a blog entry! Can't say I notice much difference in the fights put up in clear or turbid waters - tincas do show a marked gender difference - males have much larger pelvic muscles!

You're quite right about those he-man tench of course, but I find that even the little carp at Alders pull like they're riding jet skis. To be fair, the bream still come in like a naan bread whatever clarity of water. Point accepted about the two tench - I could/should have committed them to a blog piece, but it was a struggle of a session that I wasn't proud of.
