Valentine's Day Lady Hunt

The Flying Tench

8877 views

I've been off for 3 months with a back problem. No big deal, but it didn't seem wise to risk it fishing in the cold weather. So the main aim today was to see how the back was, particularly standing for a while, and I decided on a short trip to the Lambourn for Grayling (Walton Way for info of locals).

Locals will know that the EA have done clever stuff heaving in loads of gravel so it's faster and shallower than it was. I find it rather tricky, for example, guessing how far the loose maggots will go downstream in very shallow water - you need to trot down a fair way to stop them seeing you in the shallow water. And also setting the depth is not easy as it varies so much.

Still it was great to be out again, albeit for a short trip. No ladies, but one reasonable trout a bit under a pound - and the back was fine.

Not much to report I realise, but I thought I would let you all know I still exist!

Good to see you're out and about again John. The works have changed that section quite a bit particularly down by the pub where it is now very shallow, that used to be may favourite spot. On balance though I like what the EA have done, more variety of swims than there used to be.
