  1. Thanks lads for all your advice I will take it all on board before choosing a Yak. You are right John very fast rips around Porthcawl area. If anyone is heading down to Newton Bay or mouth of river Ogmore perhaps we could meet to look at your Yak. By the way when I was over South Africa recently, dealers near the Indian Ocean were selling Pelicans £460 and Dorados £580 inc taxes, add approx £200 shipping costs. I do not know what UK dealers are quoting I cant seem to find any firm prices over here. Cheers Josh.

One UK dealer > Mr Simon Everett

    www.kayakuk.com

    Pelican is £1000

    Dorado £1495

It is fine getting them shipped over but there but I have read a lot of problems with them arriving damaged if you buy direct. I am saving up for one and have read many posts about people buying them direct. Unfortunately they have to come a long way and without the correct care they can get damaged. Buy one from Simon and you get full peace of mind! Time you sort it all out you will not save that much, if it arrives damaged then you are in big trouble. That is my opinion anyway :)

    definatley

incidently there are a few bass comming out at mumbles over the last week or two weeks or so. will be trying a few lures on the weekend if the wind stays west - south westerley and the waters not too cloudy.

    john

Only fished there once, from the shore. Lots of big gullies that the bass swim around in. I fished from the 2nd lighthouse island.

A guy turned up with some big crabs, lobbed them out in front of where we were fishing and caught a 6lb bass :(

He kept it and said he had caught quite a few of them, none released :(

I would love to fish there with the yak but if I caught a big one it would be a picture and then released

  2. I know of a few 'hot' bass spots in the Mumbles which will be easy to access with the kayak and should be very productive. Hoping to try them come the summer. You probably know where they are too!

    Fancy it?

  3. Where are the best places U.K based to get 1. Pacific action Sail, 2. Min kota 30 x 30 leccy motor, 3. Cannon or equivilent downrigger.

Any info or first hand advice on fitting these to a yak would be appreciated. And no I dont want to buy another boat ;)

Pacific Action Sails are for sale on ebay! I spoke to the lady and she said they were cheaper on there than in her shop, if that helps. Richi might know where to get one?

  4. Glad you had a good one guys. Shame about the lack of fish, mind you that tide was kicking up some mud into the water.

The Tope season is not untill May, but there is plenty to go for till they turn up. I feel a Turbot trip is in need

Tope in may, yes please

Turbot, never caught one so yes please

    Happy days all round

  5. Hi I would like help in choosing a fishing kayak. I am a newbie and will be fishing off Porthcawl South Wales in fast waters of the Bristol Channel. I aim to travel around about 3 miles to various fishing marks. Also I would be tranporting on my own on top of high 4x4. I am 5.10. 13st aged 60. I am considering Prowler13, Elite or Kaskazi Dorado. or any others that might fit the bill. Thanks in antgicipation Josh

Kaskazi Dorado would be lighter for you to carry and would handle any condition

Prowler 13 is a very good all rounder, not as fast as the Dorado!

There are loads of Kaskazi and Prowler 13 topics on here, use the search function and have a read. A lot depends on how much you want to spend etc etc

    I would buy a Dorado personally but I currently own a P13

  6. Brilliant day yesterday :) was a nice relaxing day and we covered 13.2 miles according to my e-trex. The rock I caught was a beauty it must have weighed in excess of double figures, so heavy that I had to lift it out of the water with my gloves otherwise my rod would have snapped.

Was nice meeting Rich L. We had a good chat, some of it fishing related ;)

Pity GB could not come for a paddle, but it was nice him coming down to see us off

The paddle was hard on times as I am not used to doing such mileage but I feel fine this morning.

    I also got to use my new paddle;

The Endorfin. Was pleased with it, once I got used to it :)

All in all a good day out. As Rich says roll on the summer

  7. Dont worry about keeping up lads, I'm on a night shift on Sat night so I will be in chill out mode :sun: :sun:

Black Tar sounds great to me. 09.00 sounds even better than 07.00 as I can get a brecko before we head out. AVE IT!

Will have to meet GB on the main road somewhere :)

Food, a spinning rod and some lures is all we need I take it?

  8. The weather is still looking good for the weekend.

For Sunday I'm thinking that the best bet for a decent paddle would be to meet up at Black Tarr at say 9 for 9:30 to get kitted up. There is loads of parking there. Paddle down river on the tide towards P'Dock and beyond if the fancy takes us. Then return on the flood with possibly a bit of bass fishing in the side creaks such as Garron Pill.

If this is Ok I'll see you there. Let me know if anyone needs directions to Black Tarr.

I recon the best bet for doing the top section of the river to H'west or Caneston would be on a high at around mid day as GB suggested before. Maybe one for a balmy summer day :D

    Rich.

Where is Black Tarr? directions please!

    Are you bringing your P13?

  9. I think it would be a close one over a straight course, but throw a few tight turns, tide or wind into the equation and I think the Pelly would come out on top.

We'll have to have a TEST meet stu, I'll bring allong my 2 and you and Tom and Richi L bring yours and give them all a good hooofing in open water.

    It should be this outcome:

    Pelican

    Scupper

    P13

however like Darnsarf has mentioned a lot of it comes down to the paddler! I am not the best of paddlers :(

However we need a TEST meet as I NEED to try these kayaks ;)

  10. Nice one Tom.

As for having a race, no problem I'd pit the Pelly up against a SPTW anyday as long as I dont have to paddle it. Stu you said you wanted a go in her m8 so I reckon you can race Tom as you are both of similar stature. After all I'm definatly built for comfort not speed :D

    Tidy :)

Plus we would have to a swap to see the difference when I am paddling scupper!

I get to try to new yaks on the same day :clap2:

Would be nice to see the outcome

  11. Hi,

    Nice one.

GB and myself and possibly Stu are planning a trip on the river cleddau on Sunday if you want to join in. Start up river and drift down towards P'Dock then return.

Could be a chance for a head to head between a Scupper Pro and a Pelican :)

    Rich.

    My thoughts exactly, a race!

I will be there hopefully :)

TPW has been ill so I doubt he could make this sun, but a future race will be a good test!

  12. Can anyone tell me if I can get a hatch to fit the back round section behind the tank well on a prowler 13?

    Thanks Richard

    yep!

look on anglers afloat, there is a post and pic of one on there for a prowler big game me thinks

  13. Just been trying to open my "sent messages" page but can't open it

    Anyone else had this problem??

    TIA

    Tom

    No problems with me :)

The messages you send do not save automatically like they used to, you have to tick box if you want to savewhat you have sent.

  14. Hi Stu

No i'm not better yet, still feel as rough as a badgers ar$e

tomorrow is the last day of antibiotics so may need another course to get rid of the bug

Don't think i'll be well enough for fishing the w/e and now have a mountain of work to catch up on :wallbash:

    Tom

You have had it bad > mine lasted 5 days, 2 of them I was really bad and the rest my head was spinning!

Take care and get better soon,

you know where I am if you need a massage :)
