Not so hot was David Gilmour at the Royal Festival Hall, we got to our seats and realised it was an un bl**dy plugged gig. After reading the comments about Clapton, I'm not so disappointed about missing out on tickets a while back.

  2. Hi Stoaty

    Thanks for the response.

I'm aware of the history of the segregation of C&P section and agree with those who got miffed about the C&R fanatics.

I was just suggesting that a message be allowed to be posted and remain on the general fishing section to refer to this thread/issue.

It will effect every sea angler, whether bait/fly/lure/, shore/beach/peir/boat, catch and release or catch and kill.

This forum is one medium where sea anglers can a.) learn of the strategy and b.) discuss it with fellow anglers from around the country.

    Cheers

    Steve

I agree with Steve, some of the points made on here are vey worrying, the more people made aware of what the future may hold, the better.

We only have a very limited time to make as strong a case as possible to Jonathan Shaw.

  3. Fished Saturday and Sunday inside and outside the river. Not much happening outside a few whiting in the 12" bracket, few bites. In the river things are much more lively now. Plenty of whiting a lot around 12" but some good ones in amongst them. Lot's of small codling up near the Medway City Estate. I expect they will move down the river with the bigger tides. Lots of herring and mackerel to small feathers from Saltpan Reach downstream. The mackerel are unusual. The herring are tasty. I put it down to the very clear water we seem to be getting. I saw a mullet pulled from Gillingham pier Saturday so they are still about as well. It looked a reasonable fish from the other side of the pier. (The angler thought so, as soon as he had returned the fish he was on the phone at 8am waking everyone up)

It conjures up an image of that comedian with the huge phone, bellowing at the top of his voice. Dom Jolly isn't it?

I don't think Andrew would shout quite that loud.[

  4. This thread has brought back memories of when I always used the bike for transport to my fishing destinations.

I had a scrape with a police car in Christchurch, his fault but I was told to follow a police car back to the station. They kept me waiting for over an hour, inferring that I could well be prosecuted, I think it was to cover their mate and ensure that I didn't press charges. I had to sit in the public area, in my waders with all my gear. A very embarrassed eighteen year old.

I used to carry half a dozen loaves for groundbait in a binbag on the rack. As I was passing Ashley Wood Golf Course I saw in the mirror loads of slices of bread flying through the air as the bag had gone into the rear wheel. A bit of a distraction for the early morning golfers.

On the whole, it was enjoyable to combine the two passions but I don't miss the freezing cold hands on my way pike fishing on frosty mornings

  5. If the riding position is fairly upright it's easy to carry your gear. When I had a 400/4 I found that the rucksack and rod holdall were fine, I used to take right hand corners a bit slower so that the holdall didn't ground. The holdall was more stable if it had the weight of a brolly in it. My current bike is a Monster and I'd happily use that but for the fact my lurcher comes along now!

  6. It is actually Dave Rigden on the B.A.S.S forum aswell that said that a van load of trophies was likely to be wingng its way towards Matt. So they both said it. So put that in your pipe and smoke it matey.

Read it again, Leon "came up with the phrase", Dave Rigden "used" the phrase.

  7. Just a small point, it was actually Leon and not Dave Rigden who came up with the phrase 'van load of trophies'. I took it to be a light hearted, tongue in cheek comment, but it seems that some didn't see it as such. It is actually two trophies, East coast and largest thicklip.

  8. I did ask them and they said that lots of their members fish in, quote : 'grey areas'.

So it seems to me that they do condone fishing in no fishing areas.

I am speaking as an individual member of the NMC rather than on behalf of the committee.

The NMC have been promoting conservation of the species since it was formed in 1975. New members are given help and encouragement to catch what can be a difficult fish to catch. The NMC is active in angling politics to protect the sport.

Muttley chose to quote very selectively from the reply he received from the NMC Chairman. It seems for some reason Muttley is trying to undermine the integrity of an organisation that does a tremendous amount of good for angling and conservation.

Accepting captures on trust meant that a lot of fish were returned alive that would have otherwise been kept, especially in the early days. In tidal rivers, marinas and man-made harbours there are a lot of 'grey areas'. On some tidal rivers even the Environmental Agency officials give conflicting advice whether a rod licence is needed to fish for sea fish at these locations. Local byelaws are not always clear on many estuaries, on one of the estuaries I fish, I was told by the warden that certain areas were out of bounds. It turned out that this was not the case.

If you would like to take a look at the NMC website onwww.thenationalmulletclub.org it will give you better idea of our activities and read our Code of Conduct.

I am proud to be a member of the NMC and I think most people will be able to see sniping and digs for what they are.

Regarding Matt Baldwin's fish, I have read the comments on this site and other correspondence and am happy with his capture even though it bumps my fish off the top spot for this year!

  9. Hi

My experance is quite the opposite to Fastd.

In the summer months I fish for Mullet ( Medway, Kent ) and once they depart in the autumn months turn my attention to the Barbel, same river just a bit further upstream!

Barbel are excellent fighters who account for themselves in a solid manner resulting in an aching arm, but Mullet will run and run and then some. The way they will scream off and 15 mins later just when you think your winning off it goes again.

For me Mullet win, no question about it.

There will always be the exception, fish of both species coming to the net without much of a fight . . . then waking up on the unhooking mat!

I agree with Andrew, In have caught barbel on my mullet gear and whilst barbel put up a spirited fight mullet give a stronger account of themselves. The larger ones give some real heart stopping moments

  10. When I was fishing the Dorset Stour at dusk, a pair of Hobbies were flying back and forth catching insects within a few yards of myself.. I was surprised how slowly they were flying, It shows how adaptable they are, as they can also outfly swifts and swallows

  11. As look as the weather remains mild they should still be with us! Had two mullet & 2 bass yesterday! There was some really big mullet taking surface crust but i had a fish on everytime they wereabout! Missed one take with a big one & that was it they were gone!

If your about prehaps we could go for a session? I am going Costa Del Sol between 12-nov & 17-nov mulleting of cause! but anything the other side of those dates no problem!

Hi Sean, Looking ahead, I am thinking of having a go at Weymouth on the 5th of November if conditions look reasonable

  12. What! no one wants to make a comment on my fishing report? its been viewed enough times, dont like it? well its the truth sad to say and i have not seen anything much better on here lately, maybe there are more takers on here than i thought??

I have also found that the fishing is getting harder every year, I have been getting involved with pointing this out to anyone that I think may listen. One area that I fish, the river is netted regularly for mullet which is scandalous when you think how long mullet take to grow and the sporting value that they give. It's criminal that mullet specimen mullet end up being sold cheaply in fish markets or cut up for pot bait. It takes a long time to get things changed, unfortuately but I feel that we just have to keep trying. Leon Roskilly does a lot of good with the Sea Angling Conservation Network.

    What area do you fish?

  13. Interested in fishing somewhere for mullet in Nov abroad! I have fished fueguelia (don't think I spelt that right) on the coasta del sol! and caught on average 3 fish a day in the marina and may go there because I know they are there! But does anybody know of any other mullet hotspots in Spain or surrounding areas in Nov that may be worth trying if I can't get that location!

About halfway between Alicante and Torrevieja there is a large area of saltlakes, there are No Fishing signs dotted about but people still fish there. I have seen very big mullet in the lakes close to the road and have got them to take crust off the surface but haven't fished there. Have also seen decent fish around Torrevieja. There is a channel that feeds the working saltlakes that runs right through the town, upstream of the bypass is where I have seen the bigger ones. I hope this is of help. David Matthews

  14. Do you ever see any porpoises or dolphins when you're fishing off Tywyn? Several people have told me that quite a large number of mackeral have actually gone into the Broadwater in the last two years, it seems they are seeking refuge from mammalian attacks!
