  1. I think this `Celebrity Worship` is sickening.

    Kb`s right.

So the air ambulance received some donations. So what!! The helicopter was already in place for just such an occasion. Did folk suddenly wake up to that fact. Or did they put their hands in their pockets because one of our `precious` celebrities got hurt?

Kylie had cancer and she became the centre of world attention. If she`d not been a celebrity would anyone outside her immediate circle have given a damn?

I think the reality is much more sinister. As a society, we`ve become so self centred; that we need to magnify such events to show what a caring bunch we are. :yucky:

And if who evers `flavour of the month` dies in an accident tomorrow. I`ll resist the temptation to don the sackcloth and ashes. And will restrain myself from bleating an eulogy in public.

Spasor I totally agree with what you say AND believe it or not I DO sympathise with KB,I just don't think it's fair to blame Hammond for the way society is!The guy provides entertainment to millions of people and that is why there has been so much fuss made about him.

  2. I don't understand the BBC,they dropped fishing from my local station last year but if you tune into BBC Radio Newcastle they put out an excellent fishing programme hosted by Railton Howes (sp) every week!

(you can listen to Radio Newcastle on the web)

  3. Yep! I do!!

And the sound of four strokes at scrambles before they became Motocross, (can still smell the "R"!) and watching my uncle race a kart with a bantam/tiger cub engine, and learning to ride on an AJS 500 single, and being prosecuted for making too much noise on my Norton Jubilee.

Now I have a 600 Bandit with scorpion exhaust, sounds dull but doesnt breakdown and got me to Italy and back via the Le Mans 24 hour kart race in the summer!!

Am looking for a decent classic Triumph bonnie/Norton Commando if anyone knows of any!

    Biker Dan

:wheelchair: Nice to know I'm not the only OldFart on this forum :D Ah Scrambling on Black & White TV with Vic Eastwood & co :1a:

  4. I have been fishing the Thames between Thamesmead and Gravesend for the past 20 years and have noticed that the Eels have reduced both in size and quantity to such a point that they are now a suprise rather than a nuisance!

  5. Call me whatever you like:

We have had everybody saying how bad the country had got when Demeneziz (sp) got shot. If he had been carrying a bomb, the police would have been lauded all over the country. The fact that he was an illegal immigrant doesn't count.

Steve Irwin was a multimillionaire from his dangerous antics in front of the camera. He diced with death every time he went in front of the camera. How long do you think he would have carried on for?

The BBC wouldn't pay a man £100k per episode for him sitting in front of a desk.

The TV companies will pay big money for high-risk television programmes, BECAUSE WE WANT TO SEE THEM DICE WITH DEATH!!

They also pay very big money for football games, enabling the players to be payed obscene amounts to play, because THE PUBLIC WANT TO WATCH THEM!!

I am not being a Victor Meldrew or a miserable git, but looking at the situation in a balanced way!

The students who were taken to hospital because the medicinal trial went differently than expected, were all poor martyrs. If it had gone as planned, nothing more would be said or at least they (the students) would have been called lazy gits getting money for nothing!

Kleinboet, have you never heard the saying "When in a hole,Stop digging?" :wallbash:

Whatever your feelings about overpaid TV performers, the fact remains that Hammy Hammond is a well liked and respected personality and your kicking him whilst he's down will gain you credit from no one!
