  3. Hi Jon Thanks for the gen on trago but I think I will go for the divers smb idea. Re 'hows the bass going', haven'nt been out for two weeks due to weather and family but went out the wednesday after Brixham and got 3 schoolies and a load of wrasse on prawn. Am off work all next week so hoping for some good weather. Cheers dartman
  4. Thanks for that Gedi, sounds like a good idea! Dartman
  5. Thanks all Probably didn't give enough detail! - was hoping to find reel, complete with winder and lock, that I could sling over the side with a buoy at a measured depth of rope and cast of if needed- but looks like unless I go with Newt and spend yet more dosh I will have to cobble something together - and believe you me with my DIY skills I mean cobble!! Yours looks like a good one to try Paintfly - thanks - think I've still lots to learn. Cheers Dartman
  6. Hi Anyone know where I can find an cable/rope reel that I can use for my anchor system, I've tried all over the place with no joy. Chandlers laugh at me!!! Cheers Dartman
  7. Hi YB Would be glad to meet at Blackpool sometime. Am now (hopefully) going on Brixham trip so can swop contact details and discuss then. Dartman
  8. Hi all Sorry about starting a new topic on this but was worried that at short notice it might not get seen on the main'Torbay September Trip' Due to a change in circumstances (ie: the wife is not now dragging me off for the day) I am now as the saying goes 'free'! Would it be OK if I tag along on the Brixham trip? Will bring own prawns, and if they are about, a lot of extras. Dartman
  9. Hi Moonyaker - sorry a bit of a Luddite on cameras, but thanks for all the info, I'm really impressed by the advice I'm getting and the effort that goes into it. Cheers Dartman
  10. Many thanks GB for a lot of much appreciated advice - some really good stuff on there for me to work on, particularly liked the lure retriever its a definite 'must have'! Dartman
  11. Thanks Spuds -I will give it a try Thanks for the barbs bit, but all my bass gear barbs have been flattened for many years!
  12. Hi Musket Like I would hope most reponsible anglers do - schoolies at the very least go back, I kept two, both a tad under two pounds and the rest went back.
  13. As a new bod on the forum I feel a bit guilty asking advice on a subject I fear may have been discussed at length in the past - like anchors ( thanks Moonyaker) - however a quick story of fishing near Dartmouth. Last week I took my P13 on its maiden voyage - I didn'nt plan to fish to seriously but took a rod and, because I felt I might lose gear, used a tatty old plug I found washed up on Slapton Sands 3 years ago and have never caught a fish on! In about an hour and a quarter of trolling I knobbled 6 bass, which in comparison with my recent shore record, is outstanding. I went out today and tried a variety of posh plugs including a J13 and got nothing until I put the tatty old thing back on when I picked up two bass and - first for me - a 2 foot squid ( and boy was he yummy tonight!!). The plug I am having success on is large cheap and has a very large diving vane - I'm scared I might lose it !!! CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND A GOOD TROLLING PLUG/LURE PLEASE I want to stock up! Thanks
  14. Hi YB Thanks for your tour of yr P13 the other week, it was good motivation for me and then Graham offered me an excellent part exchange price for my windsurfer and that clinchedit for me!! Am really pleased with my two trips so far, six bass on my first and two tonight (both small) plus a VERY large squid on a plug! - see my other entries (I am trying to get my 15 so I can PM) - though the dog is gutted as I don't take her fishing anymore (anyone take their dog on the Kayak??). For the moment I am going to stick to home territory, but if you or any of the Paignton lads fancy a try of the South Hams, I launch from Blackpool Sands ( 3 mins from home) and the marks I know from shore fishing seem to be paying dividends from my Yak. Incidently its bright orange!! didn't like it at first but its growing on me! Cheers Dartman
  15. I am off on my 2nd trip in my P13 this weekend and want to try ledgering with lug and live prawn but feel I ought to have an anchor as the area I am planning to fish is about 20metres deep and has a lot of small reefs/large rocks. I am looking to fish the sand between them but can see myself getting snagged up a lot if I drift - but how the hell do you fit an anchor on a P13?? Can anyone give me any tips on ledgering from a kayak??
  16. Thanks ChrisW/Jonsok - am keen to meet up at some time, but for the moment think I need to find my feet in what I am doing in my area, plus get up to speed on the forum so I can PM people. Would be glad to pass on my thoughts on good spots around here as have spent a lot of time live prawning and plugging/spinning from shore between Dartmouth and Prawle. Also got long term hopes of Skerries!! but would definetely need company! - so will keep in touch Cheers Dartman
  17. Hi This is my first time in the forum - have recently treated myself to a P13. Took it out last weekend for the first time West of Dartmouth, didn't really expect to catch as I was really just wanting to get the feel of it but took a rod along and was chuffed to have 6 bass (all smallish) on a trolled plug - can't wait for this weekend! I have never seen a fishing Kayak in the river Dart area other than 'Basyak' who I met a few weeks ago. Is there anyone out there from my part of the world?? Basyak are you there?!
