  1. Know what you mean Blobby, I have the same dilemma. I think i have it right but ther is a fine balance between getting it right and ratcheting the thing down too tight and distorting the hull. Mines been on the car 6 times now and seems to be ok, and my car is much smaller than yours, although given yours is a pick, the roof is probably bigger on mine. Have you though abouth rigging some kind of frame in the rear flatbed to support the arse of the boat?
  2. Agreed Simon. Pressure on the viscera like that will almost certainly cause internal haemorrhage and possibly rupturing of the stomach which will then lead to the stomach acids entering the visceral cavity and dissolving the rest of the internals, slowly. Sorry to be so graphic, but these beautiful fish are under real pressure as a species and we need to be mindful of the way in which we handle them. I know its like trying to handle a thrashing bag of razor wire, but the website simon mentioned is really worth look Jon
  3. I'll second that Blobby. I'm new to this game too and the advice i have gleened on here and on anglers afloat has been utterly invaluable. I've only been out once and that was just to get the feel of the boat, but the trouble is i keep getting people at work coming up to me now saying "can i have a go mate, i'm thinking of getting one of those", so they have spent more time on the bloody thing than me!!! going out tommorrow with the rod if the weathers nice!
  4. "NIGHT SESSION!!!!!, IN A KAYAK, OFF KIMMERIDGE The guy at Kimmeridge is a bit of a jobs worth, but i never complain as when we night fish (from the shore i hasten to add) he goes around at about 11pm writing down all the number plates of the cars left in the carpark. I thought he was doing it to report us, but what he actually does is if the car is still there in the morning, he informs the coastguard, what an invaluable safety net to have particularly as every bloody step you take out there could be your last!!!!
  5. Hi Aidy, cant PM on this bloomin forum until ive posted a certain amoun tof posts it seems. Most of my Bassing is done along the purbecks from the shore tho', I'd love to meet up for a fish if you can get out of decorating duty that is!!! I know what that is like!! I was thinking of launching at Kimmmeridge and heading along to chapmans pool, or arish mell or all the places you cant get to by foot!! Went out on the YAK for the first time this avo, in portland harbour. a bit rough for a first time but she handled well My email is jjhulland@hotmail.com if you want to get in touch any time Tight lines Jon
  6. Hey speciman Were those bream Gilts or blacks. heard of big gilts coming out of the marina area this summer jon
  7. Hi Phil The hood was sunk during the war to stop subs and torpedos coming into the harbour. Ive dived it a few times and its always heaving with fish. , trouble is its right across the entrance so if you park up there, you'll be in the way!!
  8. well, are there? could do woth talking to someone who knows what they are doing. as im new to this game!!!!!
  9. So, just handed over the cash at Bournemouth Canoes, She's a fine vessel and no doubt, respledant in flame red and yellow (bleugggh! by highly visible) So are there any Yakkers in the Weymouth Area who fancy showing a newbie (with a lot of boat handling experience and a VHF ticket, but only one yak trip to his name) the ropes, and what i need to get or do to make the whole thing as safe as possible, its just the wife likes to worry!!!!! Ta
  10. Based in Dorset, Weymouth, my other post seems to have vanished into cyberspace, , but it basicaly said that i wanted a scupper but am probabaly to much of a lard arse, so wanting to be different, fancied the perception!!
  11. I dont know, thats why i'm asking!!! Seriously though, just found out that the perception is now the same price a sthe OKP13a, shop assistant gave the price for the "surf" spec boat. I have read review of the prowler here and elswehere, 50% say its great, 50% talk of quality issues with the newer models. I lik ethe idea of the scupper proTW but at a shade under 16 st with 38" waist, i fear it may be a little bit of a squeeze. I've never been one to follow the crowd and so my heart is saying go for the perception. I'm going over to bournemouth Canoes tommorow so i can put the contenders side by side and really get a feel for where the differences lie.
  12. HELP! Can anyone give me some advice on this model, my local shop is doing a bloody good deal on it at the moment and i'm sorely tempted over an elite or standard p13 (we're talking £400ish). Im 6'4" and 16 stone, so no doubt you'll all be telling be to get a scupper pro!!!!!! or P15 Thank loads for you r help in advance!!
