The more i think about it the more i think i put the paddle in too deep whentrying to turn, this lifted the othe side of the boat up a bit and the wind did the rest as i was already over balanced. I know i went in feet first as my trusty tilley hat stayed dry!!!. I know i could have righted the yak if i'd hung about and tried, it just didnt seem like the right thing to do in the heat of the moment. Really pleased with how my PFD worked though. I'm a big bloke 6'5 and 17st and i wasnt sure that a 50N PFD would be much use, but without it i would have been in trouble - dry suit definately the way forward, just need to be given one as i cant afford it!!! I can see what you mean about hypothermia Simon, the water temp was comfortable when i was in it and swimming, as soon as i got out in the wind, i reaslised i was going to be in trouble. I could have walked back to the car from where we went ashore, but i thought that paddleing back would a) generate more heat and help my confidence (gotta get straight back on that horse etc) 2 new items in my kit bag now - heat blanket for hypothermia - and aquapac for phone and extra clothes and blankets in the car of course

Out plugging from the yak with Lee last night - the spawny git had 3 to my none - on his third fish ( a better one of 2.5lb) i decided to go over and take a photo for him. I turned the boat and really dont know what happened next, i was in the water with the yak capsized. We were only 100yds from shore but the wind was strong and i was drifting. I was quite comfortable in the water, and thanking the lord i saw sense and stopped wearing waders in the yak. It would have been a different story otherwise (please, if you are still wearing waders in your yak - STOP.) I couldnt get the boat up the right way and as we were drifting quickly, i grabbed the back of lee's boat and he towed me to shore, not very easy for him (cheers mate - not sure what i'd done if i was on my own). We made it ashore eventually and collapsesd exhausted on the beach - at wich point i realised i had forgotton to leash my rod and it was gone my beloved abu conolon tournement and 13 quids worth of minnow. Bugger. You cant get the rods anymore and it was the best spinning rod i have ever used. Lessons learned 1. always leash your rod down ( scotty rod leash) 2. keep your mobile or vhf in a dry bag around your neck - its no good in a dry bag in the front hatch 3. dont leave your prized lure loose in the bottom of th eboat - when you capsize - they float off. So it was always going to happen, just a matter of when, glad to be alive but **** off to hell that davy jones has about £100 worth of my beloved bass gear

The place you launch is called bowleaze cove and in weymouth bay its your best bet for bass. There is a reef just off the beach at that end that runs from the kayak shop (second wind - good place to launch) right down to the cove corner. I often launch there and drift down to the corner plugging with a surface popper picking fish off the reef - only any good at high water though. If you fancy a paddle you could launch at bowleaze and then head off to the left to Ringstead bay and the white nothe (but your better launching at ringstead bay car park - bit expensive though). White nothe is the big white headland you can see in the distance (20 min padle from car park) - its a cracking spot for bass in the evenings on a flooding tide. If you want some better marks that are a bit further down the coast PM me and good luck!!

So these long swimming noodles are a good way of gaining extra buoyancy, yes? Well good ol' Woolworths have them for £2.99 each ( about 4' long), is this cheap and how many do i need? at 16'5 st i need all the buoyancy i can get !!!!!!!

everyone knows that our 50N PFD's will NOT keep you afloat, dont they dont they? Its just supposed to make swimming easier. i wouldnt rely on mine to save my life That said i dont go afloat without it

Whats the point in having one then?, surely you dont have time to don your PFD when you fall out?

This could be a bit of a nobby question but i feel i need to ask it! Does anyone tie themselves to their yak with a leash?, y'know, like surfers do to their boards. I was paddleing over the hood in portland harbour yesterday and the tide was pouring through, and i thought, if i fall out here, my yak, and possibly my only chance of survival will be miles away in about 2 seconds. So, any thoughts

sensible advice fella. I really cant make my mind up now, the reviews for the etrex on amazon speak for themselves 5 stars from 10 reviews. The Geko looks a bit cheap and crappy, etrex look slike it might survive being dropped a few times.

Hello all, Bad news for a monday morning, Last night some lowlife thieving scumbag arseholes decided to make off with my mates dads prolwer 13, from his garage. This was in the Poole area and happened after yesterdays outing from Rockley. I would imagine he was followed home and the joint was cased then, but either way, they forced the garage door and took the boat and two paddles and a bike. in the small hours. Just wanted to let everyone know to a. be aware that this can happen and secure your yak inyour garage, or if you keep it outside, chain it to something imovable. b. make sure you dont get followed home! c. Make sure your Yak is covered by your home contents insurance (his wasnt) Can you guys keep your eyes open for anything being offered for sale through all the usual channels, the Yak is fairly distinctive in that its Orange/red flame 13a with two Scotty rod mount holders fitted to a wooden bracket where the plano tackle box goes. Also nicked were Lendal Archipeligo and Crank handled firewater Paddles. Dont think the seat was nicked. So Please guys keep your ears and eyes open and lets see if this thing turns up somewhere.
