  1. how far is the lake at Kettlebaston from Ipswich, and how much to join any ideas ??
  2. Yes its the place near Felixstowe, the shop in Felixstowe Tackle Up is running it £50 for season ticket, looks reasonable , lots of trees and steep banks, good stocks from what i can gather
  3. Looked at Kirton Lakes in Suffolk to decide if worth joining for year Any members on here fishing it ??
  4. I fished GAPS about 2 years ago, found Barham too hard and too few Carp I liked Alderson small lake had loads of small 2lb carp and i had some decent 6lb Tench from the large lake Didnt like Elton Bank river section, Causeway was rubbish so i never re-joined and joined Purdis club in Ipswich I have also fished CAPS waters but that is Bivvy city on every lake so wasnt for me, i like carp but not enough to camp out all night for !! Starting to think about day ticket waters instead although it will cost me more at least i might catch more frequently
  5. I was a member of GAPS but found that Barham was a dead loss for carp, Alderson small lake ok for pole and waggler Didnt rate much else has it got better ?
  6. I guess it also depends on the venues in your area. The rivers are mostly club managed, my club has still waters only The rivers in Suffolk have some good stretches depending upon which club you join, the free stretches are mostly un fishable sections as far as ive discovered. So for me at the moment its still waters or commercials !
  7. For me Winter fishing means occasional day sessions with a 1/2 pint of maggots and a float rod or feeder rod. At the end of the day its hard work and got me wondering Is it really worth bothering in the winter months for silverfish on your usual club waters. I like to carp fish as well ( day sessions only ) and this seems even more pointless in the winter So what do you guys do apart from Pike fishing in the Winter, pack up until Spring ? At the moment i am confused and de-moralised as each Winter session turns into very little if any results and i just cant decide which rod or method to fish
  8. I did mention SWP as i have fished it before. thanks anyway
  9. Hi i had a look at Middle Farms today and they are a bit too small for my liking, nicely done for the juniors etc but i need something a bit larger
  10. Sorry but my PM messages are not working and i need to ask Rudd about Ladywood Can you give me any more info please Rudd on this venue
  11. I have several landing net handles and most have problems i have an old aluminium telescopic handle and its too heavy I have an old John Wilson carbon telescopic and its too fiddly at times to extend I have a FAPS carp conect two piece handle and its too long 3.4m ?? although its very nice and very strong. Any tips for a medium priced decent handle approx 3m that will handle small to medium fish I have a carp net (fox warrior ) so im sorted on that score Thanks Mart
  12. Im intersted to know a bit more about this club and its waters Are the new lakes good for pleasure fishing and the odd day session carping ??
  13. The problem is with Maggotdrowners is if you mention venues in Suffolk they wouldnt be able to help, ask for advice on canals or northern venues and the majority on there would reply. I didnt mean to offend but you seem to have a better representation of anglers across the UK in particular the South so suits my needs better. The other issue is they only seem interested in Silver fish match style, not pike, carp or specimen and very little for the pleasure angler.
  14. Maggotdrowners is a fine site but the Match / Northern majority has changed the feel of the site in my opinion. Many people have left it, sad to say but i just got tired of the Match topics, the Yorkshire clan on there who seem to have steered it way from general fishing into pole fishing heaven for match boys. Im sure there are many on here that will disagree, i for one have made this my preferred forum. Thanks
  15. Having been on Maggotdrowners for years , this site is a great find for me. 1. Seems to have more local anglers from Suffolk, norfolk, Essex area 2. Very helpful and good advice in particular about local venues 3. Interesting topics and not just the usual Match, pole, seatbox questions every day Well done Anglers Net
  16. During the colder months if you still keep fishing what method do you prefer Float fishing with rod Quivertip rod and feeder Bite alarm and ledger carp rod style Pole fishing For me i like feeder fishing and find the quiver tip a great and fun way , sometimes i use the polaris float ledger fishing and somtimes the sidewinder so i can fish straight out in restricted swims
  17. Thanks Rudd i have written to Ladywood a few weeks ago (Martin in Capel ST Mary ) so i hope to be considered ! The venue in Bildetson sounds good can somebody give me contact details or directions so ican look at Mart PS my PM messages are not showing ?? you can email me mgre@btinternet.com
  18. Hi i am looking for a new venue in Suffolk of at least 30 miles or nearer from Ipswich etc. I am hoping to find the following: Mixed fishery but also carp to double figures Aimed at pleasure fishing not just match Decemt sized platforms to fish from, trying to get my 8yr to take an interest Fishery that is day sessions only, i dont want to compete with the bivvy brigade Prefer a season ticket venue Must not be one of the following: GAPS or CAPS Clubs I am also aware of the more well known day ticket places, SWP, Melton etc etc Please help if you can
  19. Hi i am looking for a new water to fish and i am hoping to find something such as: Mainly carp venue but general mixed fishery with decent carp is good Day fishing only 1/2 to 3/4 hr max from Ipswich area I have fished CAPS and GAPS club waters, Creeting Lakes, Purdis and SWP Any suggestions please, would consider day ticket or syndicate if good waters I am aware of Barham A, Melton Please help if you can
  20. I have just done this, sold my seatbox etc. I purchased the Korum chair the original version and im well impressed, all the Preston bits fit it (same company ) I no longer pole fish so it is better suited to me but be warned they can get a bit heavy. So instead of the overpriced £45 wheel kit i added some brackets to my £25 Penrose trolley and it all fits on a treat including tackle holdall net bag etc etc. I can now walk miles if needed and still feel up to fishing when i get there ! Dont see why you couldnt pole fish from it but you tend to sit lower so might be a problem. The other route is buy a standard carp chair (JRC Defender Recliner ) and add you own bits ( the bottom feet pull off and you can use Preston parts on the round chair legs ) Hope this helps, trust me its far better than lugging a Milo seatbox around !!
  21. Ive just joined, any others who are members on maggotdrowners on here ??
