  1. Hi - I have used sugarpuffs many times.

I just use a size 12 hook and hook 2 sugarpuffs (or 1 large) by inserting the point in the "split" and out the side.A 3-4ft hooklength of 0.16 to 0.20 and 4-6lb mainline. I find the best floats to use are the controller(eye at top) wagglers set up on a loop.

For feeding I usually use floating pellets.

I've had some large catches of carp this way from commercial fisheries(check that floating baits are allowed).

    Good Luck

  2. Hi all,

A bit of self congratulatory info for you - I won a small match on the Match (bottom) Lake at Lake John, Waltham Abbey on Saturday with a new match record for the lake:

    Old Record...... 55lbs

    New Record......70-8-0

This was a 6 hour match 10am - 4pm which is standard there.Catch consisted of small carp, crucians, brown goldfish, roach, 1 skimmer, 1 perch, 1 small tench so you can see I was busy! All taken on "expander" pellet over pellets.

  3. Hi Dragonfly - good advice about the juicy pellets. Also try expander pellets, follow instructions supplied to soften them for hooking, I have found the "Ton Up" or "Ringers Bag Up" types to be good and easy to prepare.

  5. Hi Danez - I have fished at Tingrith alot over the last 3 years.

For tench, you need to fish on the middle of the 3 lakes which is called "Orchid lake".Plenty of tench in there of all sizes as well as carp to high 20's, crucians, roach, bream etc.

Day tickets from the cafe or bait shop on arrival - £7.50/£9.50 2 rods.

Phone to check if there is a match booking on the lake for the day you want to go.

    They have a website;

Lovely place, nice people and plenty of fish.

P.S. See coarse fishing reports forum for details of my last visit.

  7. Hi Mark - The best advice I can give you is to phone Willow Park (Ash Vale) and try to get Stevie Gardner (England International) on the phone.

I know he fishes there often and has just won two matches in a row there recently.

Ask him nicely and Im sure he will oblige because he is a nice bloke.

    Good luck in your match.

  9. Hi - I have not fished with catmeat much yet, but I am told by some in the know that the "best" stuff to use is the Chicken in gravy of the brandname "Koshida" available from LIDL stores.
