  1. Yes that is the one just past the Marina and next to the Speedboat adventure.

yeah went out on a boat from there for the day, barra after barra better fishing off the rocks....good reports from paradon thats the day trip i will be making this year... did you speak to the entertainment manager phillipe we fished with him regulary he,s one of the day entertainers and dancer... good fisherman.

  2. The Cojimar pieris still there though it has been roughed up a little nu the problem with it ist does not go out far enough to get into deeper water even at hish tide you will only get a meter or so of water. It can be Ok for catching Needle fish for bait and some Mojarra but nothing big.

I have had Bones off it if high tide concides with a calm sunrise and I have also seen schools of medium size Black Jack as well, but you have to be their early.

Your best bet would be to get a taxi to the causeway

when you say causeway do you mean the bridge doen the road????????

  3. Have no personal experience but from what I've seen on angling proigrams ( Total fishing matt Hayes ) it's an angling paradise. it has everything from blue water big game fishing to light tackle fishing with spining tackle in mangroves for baracuda, Jacks, permit and snook.

went there last june, its fab, take proper gear for big fish, snapper, tarpon , jack, bara cow fish, permit and bones.. lots of areas im off again in june... take avon skin so soft for the mossies its cheaper and much better than geet

I will not be able to make oit this year due to the operation so it will be next spring before I go over again but at least I was there in December, which hotel were you staying at?

The Melia pier went in the hurricane so the best DIY fishing is now to be had at the Causeway Bridge for Pargo etc and the beach outside the ID for the Bones

I looked at the shimano but the line capacity was a bit low for me the 8000 Penn has 300m of 80lb Braid on and I have the same amount of 40lb Braid on the 6000 that I use with my heavy spinning rod as for traces I use wire traces (honestly Andy) in 50, 80, 100 and 150lb breaking strains but next time I am going to experiment with 100lb plus fluoro carbon, which was recommended to me by Canadian Muskie anglers

i stayed at the melia just down from the daiquairi

  5. Hi there,

Wondering what sort of material you wear under your dry suit/cag when it's perishing cold?

Do you simply wear a few thin layers or what?

Does it need to be breathable etc?

I wear a long john style wetsuit under my rash vest and dry cag but still feel it cold on top when it's really cold out there.

Any feedback on this very much appreciated indeed! ;)

white lacy knickers are really good, a pair of your nans tights and a news paper to sit on..

I know Doniesky well I caught my first Tarpon on a Fly, fishing with him he is now working with the Paradon Grande fishing tours and fishing out of their, it is also the spot for big bonefish. I am using the Greys Power Popper for the big stuff with 80lb briad on a Penn Fixed spool it handles most of my heavy shore and inshore requirements including dead and Livebaiting with Sardinas Mojarra etc.

I only fish for the bones on the fly as they are relatively easy of Paradon.

    Tony

I fish the fly aswell. the bones off the hotel beach were easy to catch, shoals of about 50 going up and down the beach most of the day.. i bought shimano4500b from america on ebay, they £90 over here £35 they have a good review for tarpon etc coped easy... the thing is to have drag light for the first run..i had 60lb wire trace only 12" bought from lesley of lutons they were great... i'm going again in june.. the small tarpon wer,nt in the lagoon outside the hotel as the water level was low they had moved on.

Where were you fishing for the Tarpon? The smaller fish tend to be in the creeks and laggons near the hotels but thre are some huge mothers by the Rocks at Pilar Beach or if tou can fish by the speedboats at night in the chanel by the cause way. Those Cow fish dont half pull butpound for pound Ballyhoo on ultralight geat take some neating, it makes catching bait great fun.

    Tony,

yep pilar what a area, we were lucky the one evening to be there when the tarpon were hitting a shoal of sardines we hit into tarpon after tarpon, the runs were electric and when a fish threw the popper another 1 jumped on straight away... paradon is the place the mecca for the big fish. we off to the same resort in june... for the chap who is going you must take braid 60lb plus and a couple of spare spools... the snowbee deep blue tarpon travel rod is a great choice or the shimano travel beastmaster.. they both handled 100lb plus fish... you can catch the bones on light spinning tackle with some prawn.. the best guide is a bloke called donesky...

  8. Err why would I post that :D

Cayo Coco offers some great fishing with just a spinning rod off the rocks but take a 50-100g model as the snapper Barracuda and Tarpon grow grow some size I generally use 30lb braid or 20lb mono over the rocks on a fixed spool set up and 80lb braid on a heavy duty multiplier if using a bait casting set up. Favourite lures are poppers in red white or sardine type patterns and always use a 50lb minimum wire trace with crosslock snaps and 1-1/0 crane type swivels.

Bait can be obtained from the hotel kitchen ask a waiter for cameron (shrimp) and a few pesos will get a decent bag full.

make sue you take all the tackle you will need as nothing at all can be purchased locally.

Guided trips can be arranged through Cubanacan or your tour company guide these would include deep see trolling for Billfish Dorado Barracuda etc. mangrove and spinning trips can be arranged through El Baga the local eco tourism outfit or through Cato Paradon Grande fishing lodge who can put you on really big Bonefish, Tarpon, Snapper and Jack Crevalle. I would also recommend talking to the guys who run the kayaks and catamarans from the hotel they will be able to arrange to take you out as well.

fished guillermo last june, caught bone from hotel beach and the better fish the cow fish, but wow the tarpon were fab , hooked into numerous but only landed a few, the best experiance ever... apart from the right tackle take stuff for the mossies

  9. A good starter for any begginer is the new nintendo Wi game thats just out its for big bass fishing in a kayak, its fab you sit in your yak on the floor, paddle cast land fish and its just like being in a yak, it even takes into account wind and currents. Its a laugh buts its the next best thing to the real thing and only costs 39.99.

  10. I use the tesco abs ball They are huge but cheap at only 4.99. Good thing about them is the dual purpose if you fall in, they will keep you afloat. Also the shipping spot you easy hope this helps.

  11. On a seriuos note the fishing over there is out of this world, but one note of warning if anyone goes on a days fishing with a guide make sure you get a fixed price before you commit, cost me £380 for a day. Had an £80 fuel bill on top of trip. The fishing though was out of this world. Even caught a pelican who couldnt ignore my toby in the water (have you seen the size of those things and nastier than a pit bull)

  12. here,s some foto's of the area. first 1 is me doipost-11855-1190374729_thumb.jpgng a rex hunt down the mangrove. Her's the accomodation, fully air con really close to the beach all mod cons. you'll all love it. You must give me alot of notice with the dates you will want to stay as i am expecting lots of interest mainly because we all know how good the fishing is in mexico.not only are you close to the sea but also close to the forest where you will see all the beautiful wild life ( there are some really beutiful flies really small ones and they are really tame they land all over you.post-11855-1190374835_thumb.jpg

  13. Hi all just got back from 1month in mexico, fishing was fab plenty of bone fish, tarpon, snook, snapper, barra and sea trout. Bought a fab lodge close to the carmen flats where the bone fish were out of this world. Will be happy to let for really small fee will post foto's if you require. cheers...

  14. Hey you guys been away to mexico, fab fishing even from a yak, life is to short lets be nice take a tab or have a beer. By the way bought a lodge in playa d carmen mexico. close to the sea and near to some of the best bone fish you could have ... tARPON, SNOOK, SNAPPER SEA TROUT BARRA ITS BRILL. wil let anybody interest'd use it for a small fee.

  15. We use dive reels which has cord on it like tent guide rope attached to the reel is a small bouy you can easily anchor from the back of the yak by just looping the slack cord around the bucket or crate if you use 1 if you get in any probs throw the lot over and pick it up when you've righted yourself

  16. caught loads of bass on raps, just add a small swivel to the already attached split ring and a normal blood will do the trick, one bit of advice is have a pair of pliars at hand becauce you dont want a fish jumping around with two trebs in its mouth....

  17. Cheers boys got to get down newquay , anybody fished st'davids head, fished marloes from the rocks and its a fish rich area wrasse, pollock, huss , smooth hound, ray anybody fished out deeper???
