  1. Hi Dave and thanks for the reply. Sorry for the lateness of my response. I am moving house and have no internet connection right now. I have managed to borrow my girlfriends pc for 5 mins to get here. I have spoken to the resort manager for the Island I am heading to and been told of this too. I was looking at hiring a boat out there for a few trips, but if I am not going to get to haul my own fish then I think I'll leave my money in my back pocket and look forward to Gambia in 2009! Thanks again mate Andy
  2. Hi Gilbo You're most welcome mate. I'm from Harwich, North Essex. Just think of East Anglia as the shape of a butt and you'l have no trouble locating the town Its mainly all shallow water here by comparison to the south coast. Hence the reason uptiding came from this neck of the woods - Thames Estuary. I would imagine that the ship insurers did a fairly good job of cleaning up and getting back what they could from the wreck. I am just grateful it was only a container ship and not a tanker. Imagine the pollution and death that would have wreaked upon the local marine and wildlife !! Andy
  3. What it must be like to live somewhere that shore fishing can produce quality fish!! You want smoothies in this neck of the woods, its a boat and all the paraphernalia that goes with it to even stand a chance of hooking into one. Good luck to you mate, enjoy!! If you like reading about catching smoothies and tope from the shore, then try the one and only book I have ever read. The sea fisherman's bedside book. It's filled with stories, both fiction and fact that almost put you there watching it all happen. Andy
  4. I live in Harwich, North Essex, and for years + years, I have watched raw sewage pumped into the sea here. I cannot say how it is now as I have not been around the area its pumped for a fair while now, but I remember back in the late 90's digging rag worm near the out fall. The sewage pipe had split and was spraying it all in a massive arc. To say it stunk like hell would be the understatement of the week! The water authority were not exactly fast in curing the problem either. Swearing blind that the stuff being pumped out was only done so on the ebb tide and was virtually harmless to marine life etc. The fact that anyone could fish from the stone pier at almost any state of tide and be virtually guaranteed their terminal tackle was coated with used sanitary towels etc was neither here nor there. Neither was the fact that you could follow the "slick" upriver for a good mile or so on the incoming tide. I fail to see why or how such escapes of effluent happen. Surely if the water companies ploughed in some of their vast profits into making their pumping stations more secure and preferably further from a water course, then such "spillages"would have less chance of reaching rivers?!?!? 5. Hello people. I am new here and have done a brief search through your halls for topics relating to the Maldives. I read in one post that someone was under the impression that shore fishing (possibly) isn't allowed there. Can anyone confirm or deny this please? Firstly. yes,I am aware that May might not be the best of months to go, but when a combination of "the other half" and work dictating when I can have two weeks off, I go when I can go Although I will be having a few trips out in the local boats, I will be much happier spinning from the shore due to being disabled through injury to my back. The days of rolling about on a boat are few and far between for me these days, I'm afraid As such, I really would appreciate confirmation as to whether or not shore fishing is allowed there or not. I don't really want to load up my precious fishing gear, put it through hell and back at the luggage handlers whims and risk even more broken tips etc because of a holiday if it turns out that I am not allowed to fish there in the first place! Any and all help will be much appreciated. Thanks, Andy
