  1. I did not expect either PENN or ABU to pick up the bill for my repairs as the breakages were down to my own use and I explained this when I spoke to each. I had been advised by the shop I purchased the RX from to say the ring inserts cracked while caught in a snag but I told the truth instead as I do not believe in being dishonest. ABU did propose a solution but unfortunately it would have ended up costing me a fortune in carriage to have the rod repaired,£25-30 carriage each way. I am not putting ABU service down in any way but rather highlighting the service I recieved from each company. as for the rings quality or manufacturing origin, thats not an issue I was highlighting. ABU could have offered to send me the rings at my own cost and I would have been happy. PENN could have charged me for the rings but didnt and I am happy.
  2. guys just a short note to let you know of my experiences: I posted here a while back looking for tackle advice and purchased an ABU suvern RX rod afterwards. A rod which I must say I am very happy with. however I was fishing a week or so back and my CP pro tripod and 2 rods were thrown down the rocks by a combination of wind, waves and weed.(to be expected now and then on west coast of ireland ) The result of the fall was that both rods suffered broken ring inserts The second rod on the tripod was a PENN powerstix surf which I was using for close in work on clean ground. I contacted purefishing regarding the RX on advice from the shop i bought from and asked if they could help me out as the rod was a week old at the time of the incident. They were helpful and offered me the name of a guy in the UK whom I could send my rod to for repair with new rings at my own cost for repair, rings and postage. I also explained that I had another RX on order but the proposed solution was still the same A day or 2 later I contacted PENN regarding getting help and recieved an email to tell me the rings are on the way by post free of charge! Two very contrasting levels of care. I am not condeming Abu, but rather just making everyone aware of the superior level of service I recieved from PENN. Thank you PENN!!!! I will in future chose my brands more wisely
  3. sorted, found out i got wrong size supplied in bag with rod
  4. Thats what I was thinking Still thought its not the cosmetics that count, its what under the bonnet as long as it works I am happy lol
  5. --><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Norm B @ Aug 13 2007, 07:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--> Great, a result, I wonder if you'll get the postage refunded. Just an update to close off the post: I got my replacement reel in the post this morning. The reel is brand new but strangly 2 different colours Top half is grey/blue and bottom half is metallic green (the reel was originally all green) Still though I am happy with the result. thanks to you all for all your help P.S.Norm B: no postage refund lol
  6. --><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Norm B @ Aug 26 2007, 07:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--> That's just what us Solent anglers need, a rod capable of hauling up vast amounts of weed. cheers Tonyfromalnwick, Been trying tto get a look at one of those just to see how they compare to the suveran I have. Read alot of goot thing s about them though! Norm B: that pesky weed combined with wind and strong currents whipped my two rods and tripod down the rocks yesterday and resulted in two rings on my new suveran being shattered and two on my penn too
  7. Cheers Guys, Chris Goddard:Thanks for posting, I would be very grateful if you could check it out for me Chris! PM me if you get some details, cheers! Norm B: sounds like a good set up Norm B! some of the marks I have been brought to lately are very weedy and rocky and put huge strain on my RX, I think I would be better using something more powerful for those marks. FishingGuernsey: Thats a good price, I got my RX on offer for around the same money and love it! very nice to cast but I find it happiest being used on clean to mixed ground, although it has bags of power! great rods!
  8. Cheers guys H.A. Must check out those links! have a buget of about 120-£130 and would like a rod like my RX but maybe a bit stiffer but not too stiff that i couldnt cast it NormB: its for those weedy, rocky days I want this rod for too. fishing yesterday, perfect surf but weed everywhere. My poor RX was getting a battering! Friends conoflex was bringing in the sea bed and weed wasnt upsetting it at all. he reckoned i should keep a stiffer rod for days like that.
  9. Hi all I posted a while back looking for a good beach rod and ended up buying an ABU suveran RX which I am so very happy with!so thank you all. I am new to multiplier reels and paired the RX with a slosh 20 and am very happy with it and happy with my casting progress. I also started to fish alot of rough ground in addtion to mixed ground and am in the market for another rod to be paired with another slosh 20 (i bought 2) I want a rod that I can cast easily as I am new to multi's, I tought about another RX but then thought of the above rods. Does anyone have any experience of the above rods? are they 'user' friendly? or should i consider anything else in the same price range? thanks to all for all your help Adam
  10. cheers for the tip off FishingGurnsey! might order one and say nothing to missus! will wait n see what the RX suveran is like though as maybe they are too similar and I might go for rockrunner!
  11. Cheers UK_Ozzie, Thanks for the info and tips! I must find out how to tie those knots as I never have done them before. Excellent tip with the zig zagging too! its my first time using multipliers so I wouldnt have theought of that and last thing i want tis for line to crack. many thanks for your help
  12. Cheers Elton, Should have my Suveran RX in the morning but now you got me thinking if I should buy the fox one too as £99 is such a good deal! might have to convince my better half that another rod would be a good addition to the household
  13. Thank H.A. The rods I have are 13'6" + reducer and 12'6" so I will try some experimenting with reel position and see how i get on I dont need huge distance but 100-150m would be great if I can get the hang of it are a lifetime of FS reels! I am looking forward to getting out and trying all the tips I have been given by all you guys many thanks to you all for all your help and kind advice to all my posts so far
  14. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ Aug 13 2007, 09:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't do the lotto as that's your luck for the week. I did the lotto Saturday before our club bass comp. I found most of my crabs were dead and stinking. I caught one bass of 37cms, undersize. Went home and checked my numbers and found I'd won £20. A result but I'd of rather won the comp. LoL!! always one or the other I guess! Maybe its a good thing I havent won anything on the loTto ever so!
  15. Cheers Guys! I actually got my knots mixed up, meant a double fishermans knot but Grinner seems to be a stronger knot and I will use it, found some good step b step links on tying them too Great tip with the Vaseline Ken Davison South Wales! I am only going to be castin g gently till I get the hang of it and the vaseline sounds like it might help my confidence build too. I am going to place the reel down low I think too as I read that it would be easier brake with my thumb on left hand. Am so looking forwrd to gettin up the coast and trying it out, will probabaly find a quiet mark and practice away where noone can see my mistakes fortunately there are loads of quiet marks around my way!
  16. Cheers guys, I am filling one spool with Suffix Tritanium 20lb which i use on my FS reel and find it great! The other spool is geting Sakuma night crystal 20lb and I will use Ultima trace body crystal 50lb for shock leader. would double length of rod be a good length? should i fill spool to 3mm then unwind 3-4 rod lengths to allow for shock leader? never used on before and plan on using double bloodknot with 6 twists each side, if thats ok? have red blocks in reels and will be using red rocket fuel lube, seen this set up recommend to other users so should be a good starter
  17. Hi All, I know this is probaby a very basic question but how much should you fill a spool on a multiplier? how far from the edge of the sppol would be best? This is my first multi so I want a good compromise between usability and distance. Using a Daiwa Slosh 20 (as recommended by many here ) many thanks Adam
  18. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ Aug 13 2007, 07:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Great, a result, I wonder if you'll get the postage refunded. If they do I will go straight out and do the Lotto as I'd know my luck was in !!
  19. Cheers Cornwalltangler, I had the XTR nearly ordered but then when so many people recommended the suveran RX and it got such good reviews, I started researching it and spoke to a tackle shop about 100 miles from me. the owner told me how good they were and reckoned they were far superior in quality and casting to alot of other higher priced rods he had in stock and he uses 2 of them himself then to top it off told me he would do it for a good price and courier it me with 48 hours! Deal done! pairing it with a slosh 20! am looking forward to using it and will either buy another suveran or another rod for heavier fishing once i can judge how the RX copes with the ground i fish! thanks a million for all your help too! Tight lines for the future and hope that everything that tightens them is big!
  20. HI Guys, Just a quick update. Got an email from the shop I bought from this morning to tell me to return the reel to them or direct to LEEDA for repair or replacement so its gone registered post today to the shop. About an hour later I got an email from leeda stating the same thing. Thanks for all your advice, hopefull it will be reapired and returned over the next few weeks. will keep you posted (excuse the pun) thanks for all your help and advice Adam
  21. After a long chat with a tackle dealer down the country I finally ordered the Suveran RX! Thanks a million for all your help and advice, much appreciated! Looking forward to trying it out once it arrives in a few days! Adam
  22. guys I was just about to order the Fox Horizon and started doing a small bit of post purchase research about the Abu Suveran RX. I can get this for a good price here in Ireland but I read somewhere on a forum tonight that the Fox Rockrunner blank was the same blank used in the RX? Is this true? Or is someone just looking at the cosmetically?? I cant find where I read it just now. I really am torn between the XTR and RX now.
  23. Cheers Guys, I guess maybe thats the truth, he is ignoring me. thought Leeda/Mustad might have responded regarding the way to handle a warranty on their product though. For sure I will let you guys know who it is Barry, but I guess I am just trying to give him every chance to return the email. The reel wasnt that expensive as I paid £47.50 which I thought was good for the reel at the time of purchase. It was my first dedicated sea fishing reel and now I have ordered a pair of multi's. Lesson learned for sure Hopefull I will be back up the coast fishing by next weekend! its just a pity that the retailer in question hasnt been so polite as to return an email. If he even acknowledged my emails out of courtesy I would have felt somewhat happy.
  24. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ Aug 11 2007, 12:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Who did you buy the reel from, Mustad, Leeda, E-Bay or a mail order firm?Mustad don't retail, Leeda wholesale only I believe, so the retailer is responsible for the repair, so don't blame Mustad or Leeda. I have a couple of Mustad F/S reels and they've never had a problem in 2 years so they are reliable. If the person that sold the reel doesn't respond, name and shame them on here so as nobody else gets caught out, then ask your local tackle shop nicely if they'll repair it but they may charge you, as you didn't buy it from them they are not responsible for the repair. Good luck. Thanks for the info NormB. I bought it from a store on ebay, guy had 100% feedback and does alot of Mustad and Leeda gear, but I guess maybe he might be busy and hasnt time to reply at the moment so i will resend email and wait another week. I emailed Leeda for advice on how to get the reel fixed and explained that i was not getting a response from the shop i bought from so will wait and see if they get back to me. I wont post the name just yet but in a week or so if I dont have a response I will let you guys know. Just would like to give him the time to get back to me first. Thankfully my dad is a dab hand at repairing reels, been maintaining all the family fixed spools and fly reels for over 30 years but I just feel if its under warranty it should be fixed. I will let you know if I get any satisfaction from the shop or a response from Leeda. cheers Adam
  25. Thanks Cornwalltangler! Emailed a few retailers to see who has them in stock and doing some searching online. Probably going to buy a pair of them if I can. They will be my main rods for all my beach fishing so it will be great to have purchased the right ones. thanks again for all your help. tight lines
