  1. Bloomin hell, if they are good enough for the ol pike-meister then they will do for me! will have a browse on the web  Thanks MarkDave :thumbs:Do you use em for dead baiting as well or just spinning? Excuse my lack of knowledge Mark, am a newbie at this as you know  CheersDave

Hi Dave, spinning rods tend to be shorter and stiffer in the mid section than the longer softer dead bait rods, in addition most serious pike angler (that counts Mark out :D ) use mulipliers for spinning and fixed spool for dead bait as these cause less snatch at the start of a cast.

But I have recently bought a 9' 6" FOX Multispin for my kyak fishing. cast 20-60 gram although I think you should be able to cast about 80 grams no problem, for around £35. The usual quality from FOX linned rings, spigot joint, carbon blank. I fish with lures and troll large dead bait with them, long enough for control, short enough for the kayak.

I have far more expensive pike rods in my collection but I would recommend these for general purpose over any of the others, I think its one of the best value rods out there :thumbs:

  2. Anyone got any ideas on protecting the underside of the yak during transportation to the water. Ive got a trolley but alway seem to badly scratch the yak when going over fences, railings.

Try taking an old length of carpet with you, drape it over the fence to protect the hull.

  3. Thanks for the reply, give me details of the eastern meet i'll come along if I can. Got parents at Chapel St Lenords so maybe kill 2 birds with one stone.By the way whats a pm?

Can't send you a PM phone 01733 342626 for details

  4. For the record, My Trident is on long-term loan.

For the record, I was not asked to write a review.

For the record, I am very pleased and very proud to have been given the oportunity to test it out and fit it out.

For the record, as Bucketboy says, there is no difference to being free, loaned or bought in terms of bias or objectivity. I am under no danger of being kneecapped for telling it like it is and would tell it no other way. My review is 100% honest and accurate.

For the record, it is not a patch on my Prowler 15 for yakability (please use as much as possible and publish on paper, I want to invent a word that goes into the OED) but as a seafishing patform it has so many advantages over it that it will be a welcome addition. Knowing as much as possible about it in advance means people can make a more informed decision not to buy, or to buy if they are looking at one - I bought my Prowler without even seeing one let alone trying one, and found little of substance about it online.

For the record, I have, to date spent well over a couple of hundred quid on it, and have some more to spend still. This could have been blown on other things and I owe the joint account 6 months worth of pocket money.

For the record, I am a boring bastard at parties and keep trying to get people to come and have a play on a yak. Like Richi I have organised a meet and intend, if it's a hit, to do them once or twice a year. I have also taken, and offered to take, and will continue to offer to take people out to have a try on MY kayaks that have cost ME money, using MY tackle. For free. I have directed people on the bank to local dealers who sell SOT's and I spend far too much time posting on these forums. I am also a photographer, an author and an occasional journalist and an idle but lucky bastard that spends as much time as possible around the water. How about you?

Yep, I'm an idle bastard too ;)

  5. Talk about foot in mouth :D Stop digging Dave.

To be fair if I was offered a free kayak then I would take it and commit to write a few words and I would imagine that most people would jump at the chance. If you recieve free goods to test then state it openly from the start and there should be no problems.

As I see it, it doesn't make the report any less honest if the kayak is free, on loan, a gift or discounted . In fact if you have just spent the thick end of a £1,000 on your new kayak and fittings, then I would be supprised if the report is unbiased and honest.

I have read more about the rigging, sailing, paddling, fishing and using the Trident in both fresh and salt water, than I have on any other Kayak, surely that must be a good thing? What even more important is the reports are by fishermen using it in these waters. This helps to make an informed dicission, do I want one or not. I am sure that there is several of us on these forums, wished they were able read indepth reports about their kayak before parting with their money.

And before you ask, yes I am happy with my BGP and no I don't want a Trident, not even free.

Like the look of the P13 though

  6. hellow all, just bought my first kayak and would like any info on getting started. I'm no novice when it comes to angling but I'm a bit green concerning seacraft. I've got most of the gear wet suits.pdf etc and I'm planning for a VHF licence soon. Any possibility of tagging on to a trip somewhere to pick your brains. Not bothered about midnight gonger bashing just yet. The last time I did the gonger around midnight I ended up with a shiner.I live just north of Nottingham so any replies welcome.

I live in Peterborough, if you fancy doing the eastern meet, send me a PM and I'll give you a lift, theres room for another yak on my trailer. ;)

  7. Been there, done that.

As you know Mark, one of my other hobbies is shooting, I too have killed, fish, feathers and fur. I enjoy hunting in all its forms, but I only take what I can eat, that doesn't mean filling the freezzer or suppling half the street either. I do not agree with killing for trophies and in the present "anti everthing" climate, I think that it is irrisponsible for the angling press to allow photos of this type to be shown. We all know this sort thing goes on for what ever reason and however you want to justify it but why give the anti brigade ammunition.

  8. So just how do you kill a shark when you're in a kayak? (Not to mention why the hell you'd want to do that anyway...)

With a bang stick, a metal rod with a shotgun or rifle bullet at the end. Jab it in, off it goes. Unfortunately a common piece of equipment used by some big game (small minded) fishermen in the U.S.:angry:

    Bb

Oh yes, cut the fins off, remove the jaws and throw the rest away

  9. Thanks Bb  They were just babies! I see some HUGE ones but they are very spooky and a little less interested in the bait, but gonna try a spinner with a little harbour rag on the hook as I have seen on a dvd about mullet that I have  Worth a shot anyway!

    SDD~~~ :sun:

Try a hook length of about 6" between spinner and bait.

  10. After a lot of trying, finally got a mullet Nifty :clap2::clap2::clap2: (3 actually)

I used my new 15' carbon barbel rod with the stiffest of the 3 supplied tips. After trying bread for months, I started using tiny maggots (cat food produced and used as they are only a few days old so small) and "bingo" got mi first hook up!

The first one came in like a load of seaweed until it got in the shallow water and then got a bit upperty about being caught! I see what you mean about a fight! the bloomin thing was leaping and tail thrashing about like crazy ha ha. The other two similar only the second one took off as soon as it hit the maggot! I had the freespool on and it took a whole heap of line before I cranked the handle to engage the clutch! Glad I set the drag light because this one would have been off I am sure as it seemed to never run out of steam!. Fantastic fun and I am glad I kept my patience after all this time trying for em mate, so thanks for the advice!

    Hopefully, more to come

The last photo is the place where you were trying with the fly! :D

    SDD~~~~ :sun:

Nice one SDDor should I say three, good fish, fatter than any I've seen before

  11. Two fish is two fish mate.

My second pike was 22lb 4oz. I had a 23lb 6oz a couple of years later. As you know I've had stuff that the record pike could be bait for (as have you). Two fish is two stories, it's two fish to see and hold, its two breaks in the afternoon. It's two successes. If i wanted a 30 then i'd have to put in so many hours of blanking, or of being disappointed with a good double - what's the point in that? I go for fun, i'm not a carper, whatever I get is welcome. best daysfishing i had since picking my rods up again was Starvins tournament, the species hunt. Brilliant! Most of the captures were under 4 inches long.

Yeah , I agree I would rather catch something than blank, I have caught hundreds of pike, most are small, and some of those fish I can rember because of the curcumstances that they were caught under rather than for the fish its self. Just like you at the speices hunt but I can remember ALL the big fish I have caught, are they more enjoyable to catch, probably not, are they more memorable, definitely. That why I like to target the larger fish, I feel larger lures tip the edge into my favour, they give me confidence, which is why you like the Big S. You claim you have caught more pike on Big S's than any other lure, the truth is that although you may start fishing with another lure, if you have not caught a fish within a short time you swap over to the "Old favourite" if it then catches it reinforces its fish catching qualities, if it blanks it doesn't loose any ceditabilty its "just one of those days" the fish weren't bitting.

Large or unusual catches ARE more memorable :camera: , I would like to bet you will remember catching the chair long after you have forgoten about most of the pike you have caught.

  12. Trouble is I love them all. I'd rather two 1lb jacks than one 5lb jack. I like the fun of quantity over the wait for quality. I've had quality but just like to see the stuff. Hell, I even get a kick out of landing chairs.

Yeah so would I, but what about two 1lb jacks or one 30lb monster. As for chairs, when ever I hook into them I cut them free, dirty, slimey, smelly things, the don't fight well either. Shopping trollies though, now we're talking  .

  13. From my old coarse fishing days I have a lure shaped like a small jack pike - about 10inches long. Never been used; have you heard if these have caught? I bought a freshwater licence this year so hoping to do some pike fishing this winter.
    '

Yep, there are a few manufactures who make them, some of my friends swear by them, I've never had one, I'm a rapala man myself.

  14. Hi BB

Which lures do you use to target the larger pike?

    Simon

I have been using big jellies, Mann Giga and Mega grubs, Dawgs, Replicants and Fox super twin tails. All these lures are over a foot long, vertually impossible to cast but ideal for trolling.

Don't get me wrong, Big S will catch large pike and big jellies will catch small ones but from my experience bigger is better, unfortunately for me, thats what the wife says too :secret:

    Bb

  15. The Shakespeare Big S must have caught me more pike than any othe lure - ever. It works from the bank or trolled and at times will outfish any other lure. Maybe it's the action or maybe the depth it swims at

Hi Mark, Big S is a great lure, I have caught loads of pike with them, a few problems though, they seem to target the smaller pike, I have had a couple where the wire loop that holds the split ring has broken off while landing fish and a couple more that have sprung a leak slowly filling with water. For those reasons I have lost confidence in them and have retired them to the bottom of my tackle box.
