Hi
Ive got the Vivitar ViviCam 6200W waterproof to 10m great little camera £80
-
i was using lug or small strips of squid, sounds like you had a lucky escape, was the sea rough.what yak you got.
It was just to windy, NW off shore breeze out going tide my fault must of been a rush sh*t to the brain mixed with a desperation to fish
-
Nice one Jer sounds like you had a great session , What bait where using ?
I went to Oxwich on Sunday with live sand eel, It was way to windy to fish and I launched anyway like a dickhead just cause I had travelled an bought the bait.
Ended up regretting that as I spent 20mins trying to get in safely stuck in the rip paddling against the wind
Had a VHF and inshore pack on the yak in case thing went really wrong , if anyone reading this hasn't got that kit get it, you'll pay anything for it when you need it. Luckily I didn't need it yesterday but it was close.
Wont be making that mistake again

Tried them already but thanks anyway
My kingdom for an apex 1 !! anyone
Try one of these almost the same as the apex 1 and very comftable.

Great report lazyhooker, I’m going to have to have a go anchoring near the wreck only ever drift fished it.
Those pout sound like a nice live bait size
Every time I anchor near the boats all I can catch on the bottom is dogfish it seems like the place is carpeted with them What’s the secret ?
-
very much the same as bream rigs we use size 6 or 8 hooks with finger nail size pieces of squid.
should be out after them tomorrow weather permiting just have to get in really close to the wreck for an hour or two over low water.
john
Let us know how you get on , should be going back there Monday or Tuesday next week.

If your looking at launching in the Porthcawl area , launch from Newton fish it from low water up.
If your not comfortable with anchoring in fast tides drop in behind the point.
Its good for Conger and Cod through the winter, if your looking for bass on lures you need to go west Swansea onwards much better water clarity, its worth the drive.
Granted a C tug wont get over melon size boulders but its the best trolley out there at the moment and it has no problems with patches of rock and large pebbles.
Hope this helps Chris

C tug trolly will handle most ground quite well.
Where in South Wales are you fishing?
-
Great report Richi, when using the baited feathers are you casting them away from yak or jigging the directly below the yak ?
The reason I ask is that the bass down this end seem reluctant to take baits directly under the yak, drifting with a light weight seems to bring more success. Might be something to do with water clarity.

Had a better day at Oxwich today , launched at 1500 come out at about 1930 fished the flood.
Weather was overcast wind 15mph on the point SSW.
Got straight into fish catching small pollock mackerel and about seven gurnard of varying sizes
Also managed a bass this time
All fish catch and release
-
Stunning photos there blaze. Must get down oxwich very soon.
what sort of depths was you fishing in ?
Hi Lloydus I was fishing any where from 14ft - 40ft depending on how far out I was.
Its worth having a fishfinder fitted if fishing down the Gower as there are a lot of drop offs and pinnacles. Take some of the guess work out of it.

Let us know how you get on
Great day for fishing just not that many fish about today , fished around the point today , With about 4 boats and they werent catching much.
Caught plenty of dog fish small pollock and a codling which I wasnt expecting off Oxwich.
No bass did see two caught by one of the boats.
Also saw some dolphins, but they were too quick to photo

had one around 50lb last week when I was fishing the Anglers Afloat comp.
I have a nav light & headlamp
Respect
Ive had them to 20lb on a yak and they can be a right hand full when up on the surface.
-
Great report Richi, that's a cracking bass .
What's the biggest conger you've had from a yak ? You've got every chance of hooking a monster fishing thoses marks at night.

Wow donkey and shark experts on the same forum.

Im fishing Oxwich on the 31st if the weathers not bad (looks ok on metcheck )
Anyone fancy it ?
-
Have alook a this , a bit to close for me

Chris
This is just what I needed and gives me much more confidence to go ahead and do the job - many thanks.
Could the pad eyes be screwed? or bolted? or should I invest in the equipment for rivetting? if so could anyone please recommend a supplier for rivets and a rivet gun?
Thanks for taking so much trouble
Mike
Mike if you can get your hand inside you can use stainless bolts, I didnt fancy using self tappers on pad eyes for the trolly system as they can take a fair bit of pressure when the tides running, and I didnt want them ripping out.
Anyone eles out there used self tappers on their trolly system and can advise ?
If you want rivets I got mine from cobra kayaks and my hand riveter from halfords about a tenner.
Dont forget to use a dab of silicone with every fixing to keep everything water tight.

Thanks for the link Chris
Would be great if you could add some further pictures
Thanks
Mike
Mike here’s some more pics of my set up, it comprises of 2 stainless pulleys , 1 crab ,1 stainless ring, 2 pad eyes riveted on ,1 small hook riveted on, 2 small stainless crabs.
The small hook is to prevent the line coming across the cockpit, you could place the pad eyes lower but you really dont want to be drilling holes on or below the water line.
The bungee is conected to the crab with 2 thumb knots and 2 small cable ties above the knot to prevent them slipping under load this is then finished off with heat shrink tube to tidy it all up.
Hope this makes it a bit clearer Chris

Chris
I am starting to get the bits together to fit an anchor trolley to my Malibu Mini-X. Could you post some more detailed photos and just give a bit of detail as to the bits and pieces you used and where you got them - for instance did you use rivets to fix the loops to the kayak?
All help greatfully received
Thanks
Mike
Ill post some pics for you tommorow night for you
In the mean time have have look at this loads of great info out on the web

Karl I’ve fitted a 12v gel cell battery with a 1amp inline fuse.
This is the placed into Tupperware box and placed into a dry bag which has its handle clipped around one of the scupper uprights to prevent it sliding around
All excess cables are velcroed to the side to keep them out the way.
Hope this helps Chris

Hi guys I’m from Bridgend and fish Newton in the winter and Gower in the summer, Haven’t been out for a couple of months due to a house move but I have been doing this for a couple of years both in small boats and kayaks.
This time of year your likely to catch dogs whiting cod and conger from Newton, just be careful of the tides, fish on an incoming tide and stay just inside the point, try and avoid the big tides.
The fishing beyond the point is best, but get used to anchoring your yak first, it’s safer to fish there with a buddy. It’s like anchoring in a medium flowing river.
Good luck let us know how you get on and I should see you out there some time.
