mmmmm hadn’t seen that post if that was a blue zippey done well to get it in on a 12lb hook length, if the photo hasn’t been adjusted I cant think what else it could be.

Sounds like you could be a serious contender Simon ,I think your write in what you say about targeting blues their not quite as naughty as the porgies.
Your plan of going with a boat makes sense for safety and to see how practical it is to catch a blue from a yak, however catching one unassisted will be the holy grail , what do you think?
Had look around on some of the US forums and cant find anyone who's had a blue yet, seen back tips, threshers, lemons, and small bulls!
If you can do it you could be one the first people to catch a confirmed blue in the world
Good luck.

Phooey I think your right saftey in numbers, as for our UK sharks Blues would be the way to go and small ones at that but there in lies the problem you cant pick and choose which fish takes the bait.
Has anyone on this fourm seriously targeted sharks yet?
I think who ever does it they will have to put some serious planing into thier trips for their own saftey and the welfare of the fish.
Having said that its still doable and someones going to crack it in the next year or two , its the next stage after tope. Once someone done it you guys can start fishing for the White shark that keeps turning up off North Devon every summer

Thanks for all the info guys

Has anyone out there seriously tried to target sharks from a yak yet? I know there are definitely areas in the West country and Wales where they are in paddling range.
Do you think it can be done without a support boat? , as I see this as a bit of a cheat. It wouldn't be that hard to motor out to some where chum the sharks up, get into a yak hook one up and touch the trace, its just a case of throwing enough money at it.
To me the ultimate way would be paddle to your chosen spot carrying all your own equipment hook the fish and touch the trace and provide some photo evidence if possible.
Isn't it a shame we don't class Tope as a shark because what some you guys have achieved in in west Wales is amazing and for anyone outside the UK looking at these pictures they would class these fish as sharks.
So come on who's be first?

Thanks for the info guys ,I should be going to look at the X factor on Monday if all is ok I will go ahead and order one.
Should be able to catch a bit of the summer fishing once its rigged!
One more question , what length paddles are you guys using ? ie will I need a 220 or 230 due to the width.

Thanks Karl
are you able to load the kayak by yourself? the reason I ask is I will sometimes be fishing by my self.
Did the dealer fit the rudder for you? is it a malibu rudder or another make whats the quality like?
Anyone else out there got one or paddled one , got any views.
Thanks Chris

Hi
guys I used to do quite a bit of kayak fishing in the late nineties around Oxwich , Horton , and Newton in South Wales from a Cobra fish n dive, got a boat and gave it up . My mistake because I'm now missing the ease of it against launching a boat. Ive now sold the boat and would like to get back into kayak fishing much to my wifes dismay.
I spoke to Simon at the South Wales boat show on Saturday ref kayak fishing and he put up a good argument for longer narrower kayaks. It must be said his expertise in kayaking far surpasses my basic knowledge, but I do like the look and size of the X Factor and do have experience of paddling the Fish n Dive which is a big kayak.
Ok here's my questions
Has anyone paddled the Fish n dive and the X Factor ? How do they compare?
The guys out there who are Paddling the Xfactors at the moment , How are you getting on with them? and what areas of the coastline have you used them? i.e. river mouths ,rips over sandbanks headlands reefs ect.
Is it worth getting a rudder fitted to the X Factor? Would this help paddling into a head wind?
The reason Im leaning towards the X Factor is the amount of on board space ( Im 6,2 15 stone)
the stabilty dry ride and in kayak storeage.
Great forum hope you can help Chris.
