    Snakefly...?

What do you guys think of a snakefly pattern? I have seen bass and catfish hit snakes swimming on the water! How would you tie a snake fly pattern that it moves like a snake on water? I have seen these plastic lures on the net and guys are catching big bass on them!
  3. Don't you mean Vundu? The fish in the photo is a sharptooth catfish, it is related to the Vundu! I think the only way a wels would rise is if it was hunting for smaller fish in the shallows or maybe if there is birds breading near the water and some ot the chicks fell in. The wells you would probably catch at night when it is more active with a big, noisy fly. You would probably have to use a 10 weight fly rod for wells! But think it would be a lot of work! Anybody else that is catching cats on fly? Maybe some of the members from USA?
  4. Thank you, this helps a lot! How would your leaders differ when you do saltwater flyfishing?
  5. This is one of my favorite fish to catch on fly! It is really fun to catch a 5kg+ catfish on a 6 to 7 weight fly rod! I'm going to explain my simple technique I use to catch them. Firstly I look for activity on the water, then I start tapping the near the activity. I tap the fly 3 times on the same spot, then let it sink for a second or 2 and then repeat the action. Normally I stay at one spot for about 5 minutes before I move on. The strike is very aggressive and sometimes they swallow the fly! The other technique I use is to look for fish that are rising, then I cast my fly in front of them and normally they will smack it! I use my own fly pattern, it consist of a double hook with a red body made from wool, a tail with two long chicken feathers and black body feathers like a Mrs. Simpson fly! I use a very short leader about 50-75cm! Is there anyone else that also catch catfish on fly and how do you do it? I have added a photo of one of my fly caught cats!
  6. Hi! I just want to know how do you attach your fly-line to your leaders and how do you make your leaders? I'm knew to this game.... Maybe you could attach some photos etc.
  7. What other tips do you have fot me Budgie? My dad caught the fish on a worm...any tips on using worms? How do you use them there in europe?
  8. I can get most and tackle bait that you have in Europe! I think our rivers is a lot like French rvers. There is mainly 5 big species of fish in our rivers Carp, catfish, mudfish and small- and largemouth yellowfish. Here is a link if you want to look at some of the fish http://www.indigenousfishing.co.za/ In the slow flowing parts in the rivers we mainly catch carp and catfish! In the section I'm fishing, the average size carp is 12lb and the largest that have been caught 27lb, but there have to be larger ones. In this section of river it is very deep and the current is slow. What bait and techniques would you recommend? I have added a picture of one of the carp(5.5kg)
  9. What rigs, bait, ground bait and method would you use on a river?
  10. I mainly use 15mm on most waters to keep the fish above 9lb and I use 10mm for other species in our waters! If I know there is a lot of bigger fish and catfish I move up to 20mm boilies! What flavour boilies do you use? What time of year do you use these favours and on what type of waters do you use them?
  11. How do i change my profile? I am a bit new to this forum and don't no where on the website to change it? Can you give me some directions please?
  12. Thank you starlight! Yes I can get maize for free! What hook baits do you fish over the maize? Do you use maize or what other hookbaits do you use?
  13. There is a slow current in the deepest part and almost now current in the shallower areas! I mainly use feeders for most of my fishing!
  14. Just out of interest, what size boilies do you tend to use and why? What do youn think of different shapes boilies? What shapes do you use other than round and why?
