  1. Hi Manxman You up for a trip out sometime, or are you the secretive type?
  2. Cheers Scott I know Kelvin well from the tackle shop in Peel, It's his brother that organises the kayak trips, more corporate team building & sight seeing than fishing I believe. Good info on the fishing spots though. I've lived here most of my life & fished from shore & boat, but recently gone to the kayak over the boat. I live in the North & prefer fishing for bass, flatties, sea trout etc usually on the fly rod, so the coastline up this way suits me better, but armed with your info I will definately try the other marks. What I was hoping to find was a buddy to go fishing with, safety in numbers & all that, as the tide can be wicked at times around the northern beaches, especially towards the Point of Ayre, but all info gratefully received as I learn something new every time a speak to a fellow angler. Yes good news on the size limits, nets etc. We may end up being the bass angler's paradise.

Without giving too many off your secrets away, what did you catch them on & over what type of ground etc

    Lures

Thanks guys. I've never had any success with the Rapala J13 or the Cordell pencil popper. The jointed thunderstick I think are no longer available, I have had success recently on the maria kiss angel & mag popper for bass although I have a wierd & wonderful selection including some from Majorca with no name that look like a sardine, which the mackerel commit suicide on. It's good to know what other lure fisher's catch on & therefore have confidence in. On the spinner side of things I have had most success on a long thin spinner produced by Ron Thompson (not sure of the type) but very good for the bass & sea trout, plus the biggest three mullet I have ever caught took this whilst i was out for a bass apparently they stuff themselves with sprats at this time of year (mullet that is). Obviously they & the bass were having a field day all competing & my spinner was amongst it all. My mate called this morning to say that he caught a bass well over 10lb, guesstimated at about 14lb yesterday evening on lugworm, he put it back. He is an honest judge of fish sizes & he has caught more than a hundred bass this year so knows his stuff. He has two witnesses & photos. My biggest are 7.5lb on bait & 5.5lb on the lures, so luckily he told me where he caught it & as we all know big bass are territorial & predictable (well reasonably) so you know were I will be this weekend,(if I'm allowed). Yes I'm the same as you lot, I'm only the boss when the boss isn't home.

    Lures

I prefer lure fishing more than bait, has anyone got any particular favourites, colour, surface, sub surface etc. you know the kind of thing & what types of fish do you find them affective on. I tend to spend my valuable fishing time pursuing bass or sea trout (in the sea) more than anything else. I would be interested to see if there are several lures that get a regular mention from you all.
  6. Thanks seajunky I'm already a member of the North Wales forum. Just thought I might find a kayak buddy on here. I'm quite happy with my own company when fishing from the shore, but would rather buddy up whilst in the kayak for safety reasons, plus you can have a laugh if your out with a mate.
  7. If ever you fancy meeting half way give me a shout. We don't seem to have many kayak angler's here which I find odd, because we are on an island there is always somewhere sheltered to paddle no matter what wind direction.
  8. Are there any Isle of Man kayakers out there who fancy meeting up for a fishing outing? Plenty of bass & sea trout getting caught if you know where to go.
  9. I'm a new member to this forum & have found the points raised, questions & answers to be interesting, entertaining & thought prevoking. I am a virgin kayak fisher & have found little on the forum from kayak angler's (or am I looking in the wrong place). I have been an angler for 30+ years, sold my boat & in an effort to get fit again I have invested in a kayak. My passion is bass fishing, (had one on Saturday morning on a surface lure about 3lb) but I'm happy in pursuit of anything fishy. I live on the beautiful Isle of Man & would also love to hear from any like minded kayak angler who fancies joining up & having organised fishing outings (for safety reasons).
