  1. This tickled me. Not really sure why

    Her Glass Eye

A man is dining in a fancy restaurant, and there is a gorgeous redhead sitting at the next table. He had been checking her out since he sat down, but lacked the nerve to talk with her.

Suddenly she sneezes and her glass eye comes flying out of its socket towards the man. He reflexively reaches out, grabs it out of the air, and hands it back.

"Oh my, I am so sorry," the woman says as she pops her eye back in place. "Let me buy you dessert to make it up to you."

They enjoy a wonderful dessert together, and afterwards, the woman invites him to the theater followed by drinks. After paying for everything, she asks him if he would like to come to her place for a nightcap...and stay for breakfast the next morning.

The next morning, she cooks a gourmet meal with all the trimmings. The guy is amazed! Everything has been incredible! "You know," he said, "you are the perfect woman. Are you this nice to every guy you meet?"

    "No," she replies.

  2. No idea about the regional variation, but if you want a proper pint of Stella then go the the White Horse Pub in Lindfield, West Sussex.

Around 2 years ago my old flat mate and I were having a lunch time meeting in the pub with an officer from our local fishing club. He managed 1 1/2 pints of Stella and I had 2. I honestly swear to god I've never been so drunk in all my life. My mate reckons there was anticeptic or horse tranquilizer or something in it.

Went home and straight to sleep, slept all night and woke up in the morning feeling like I'd been run over by a steam roller.

Now thats a strong pint of Stella!!!

  3. How was the database sent to you.

The database itself may be set to "read only" thus not allowing access.

Find where it is on your hard drive, right click on the database name and choose properties. If it is set to read only then undo that and Robert should be your fathers brother.

  4. I generally believe that fizzing groundbait is a good sign. If mixed well small particles should rise in the water, feeding the smaller fish in the upper layers. Most larger fish will stay lower in the water, feeding on the larger chunks of groundbait and any loosefeed that was introduced (either in the groundbait or afterwards)

You will also often find that carp and tench (and to a lesser extent bream) feeding over groundbait will really sift through the bottom sediment to get every particle of groundbait. This will often produce bubbles.

In my experience carp bubbles tend to be large and in small numbers, tench bubbles are small (like pin pricks) and very numerous, and bream are somewhere inbetween.

One of the most exiting things I've seen is a stream of pin prick bubbles (tench) moving towards your float slowly. Then then stop. Suddenly a myriad of bubbles erupts under your float, which glides away and you just know your into a tench. MAGIC.

  5. I've been a dedicated course angler for most of my life (all 25 years of it) but recently I've been fancying a go at fly fishing.

Can anybody out there tell me how to get started. I need to know a good starting outfit, if I need lessons on how to cast or not, any good books or videos I can get on flies, where to go etc.

I live in Sussex inbetween Brighton and Crawley so if anybody out there can recommend a good place to start, what kit to use etc I would be eternally gratefull.

Also, if any of yuo AN fly fishing geniuses want to teach me yourself I would enjoy that even more.

  6. Your point is an excellent one, and I agree with it fully but the problem is that these sort of pictures sell the magazines.

Just like pictures of topless female celebrities sell tabloid newspapers, pictures of huge hauls of fish sell the fishing mags.

I fully agree that the responsibility stands with the publishers not to print these pictures, but maybe if they are going to continue doing so they should also print information and guidelines on the safe handling of fish, so at least any novice anglers will know what to do.

Anybody experienced anglers who still handle fish badly should just know better

  7. Whilst fishing a nice evening session with a friend last night, we discussed the mysteries of fishing.

Not what you might think though. These myseteries were such as

    1) How does that little loop of line come off your reel and attach round the top of the spool whilst you are fishing?

    2) Why do you sometimes cast out with 1 maggot on the hook and reel back in to find two on there?

    3) Why is the best way to encourage fish to bite to either take a bite of your sandwich/drink some tea/have a cigarette.

Anybody got any other fishing mysteries, or any answers to mine.

    Don :)

  8. I can confirm that double red maggot on a size 18 hook is without a doubt the best pike bait around.

Have caught loads on my local club waters (mainly in matches arrrr)

They all seem to be hooked just in that small bit of flesh around their gums (if they have gums)

  9. Thanks for the help boys.

Will put that into practice on Saturday as have made it a target this season to catch a big haul of bream from this specific lake.

  10. I generally consider myself to be a good angler, and can turn my hand to most aspects of the sport with little fuss.

However, Bream fishing is killing me. I fish a local water which has 1000's of the things in it (if the match reports are anything to go by). I have both legered and float fished, putting in plenty of groundbait and not feeding too much over the top (as bream don't like this) and sure enough, after an hour of so I catch a bream.

Then I'm thinking to myself "here we go, as shoal has moved in" and then I don't catch any more. I carry on catching roach, tench, rudd etc but no more bream. The singular bream are generally about 3 - 4 lbs so should be in a shoal right?

Anybody who can shed some light on this for me please do so.

    Yours

    Don

  11. Am very well thanks Gaffer, or should I say Dr Gaffer? I take it your carping i still going well.

Lee, my break from fishing was actually forced by a combination of zero free time, a new job, moving house and 1000 other things.

For anybody elses information, I am looking for a club which isn't HHDAS. Any info still would be great

  12. Right.......

Bit of a tough one to give advice on as there are so many different aspects of pole fishing to comment on.

Probably the best idea is for you to email me with any specific questions, and I'll answer them as we go along.

    Email to mailto:jamespsnook@aol.comjamespsnook@aol.com

Look forward to hearing from you :D

  13. Hello All,

After a 9 month absence from all aspects of fishing, I'm just about in the position to get cracking again.

What I really need to know before this happens is which club to join.

I live in Haywards Heath, West Sussex and want to join a course club within a 20 mile or so radius.

If any posters out there know of a suitable club please reply with name and contact details if known.

    Thanks

    Don

PS - Elton if you read this, I can't get over how much this site has changes since I first logged on all those years ago. You've done a bang up job mate. Keep up the good work. :D

  14. Does anybody know what affect stocking Trout into rivers has on the course species resident in the river?

Specifically, would stocking around 300 trout into a 3 mile stretch of a small river cause course fry to be eaten in large numbers.

Any info on this would be greatly appreciate.

  16. Thanks for your repies.

Our club secretary is excellent, and I am also on the comittee myself so will look into all suggestions.

One more question I would like answered, is there a was the silt can be sucked out of the bottom of the lake? Does anyone know if a machine that does this exists?

    Many thanks

  18. My club has a 1 1/2 acre lake with what we believe is 3 foot of leaves and general sediment on the bottom of it. This build up has not been dealt with for a considerable period of time and has resulted in a reduction of the depth of the lake to less that one foot in places. Last summer a large number of carp died at the venue due to low oxygen levels caused trough the lack of depth and the large covering of duckweed that the lake has. Does anybody know of a relatively cheap method of removing the leaves and sediment from the bottom of the lake? We can get together a group of people to do the work but we do not have the funds to dredge the lake. The duckweed problem is in hand but any responses to the depth problem wold be greatfully received.
