  1. correct me if im wrong but pike usaully eat injured unwell or even diseased fish they mostly eat the easiest fish to take in a shoal so in my oppinion they are doing the water a favour by getting rid of the poor quality in each species.

as the saying goes only the strongest survive

a 30lb pike around my area are non existant if you catch a 20lb pike you are doing well

  2. Serious Gaff wounds. Why the feck are people gaffing pike. SOme people make me sick.

serus gaff wounds gaffing who the hell uses one of them coarse fishing i thought they were for landing sea fish on boats?

i agree does make me sick aswell

  3. i would pm ya but bloody thing wont work as i aint made enough posts so i'll have to tell you where everyone can see it!

u know where the railway crossing to is in st georges? on the shop side of the crossing, follow the road which goes along the railway right down to the bottom. your see the river on the left and it goes under the tunnel under the motorway (from here it links to the road bridge at bourton lane one way and links to Banwell the other) you can fish here into the tunnel entrance but when we was younger we used to fish the bit between the motorway and the m5 slip road but you had to crawl under the metal gate (in the tunnel to the left of the river) to get to it.

in the middle bit, which theres no way anyone has probs ever fished it except me and my mates! I've had roach to 2 pound and pike to about 10 pound. i havent been down there in ages and i know its all houses around by there now but u can get to the other side of the tunnel by going around the a370 and down a lane to it (u can see the river on the left hand side as u get on the a370 going out of weston). to get to the middle bit i'm on about u'd have to climb down on to a metal bridge thing when is secured to the top of the tunnel that goes under the slip road.

thats probs clear as mud and probs makes no sense to you but it will do if u ever go there!

no leeroy i know exactly were you mean the waters shallow there and crystal clear i have been there before i may have a look tommorow thank you mate

  4. There's a new Anglers' Net in Australia. Nothing to do with me, but may be worth popping in and saying you're from here :)

    http://www.anglersnet.com.au/

    thank you elton

they live near perth by the moor river funny enough but my brothers been fishing it apparently not that hes got a clue what hes doing hes only 9 bless him but atleast he tries.

I have been there and seen people fishing in there but they were in boats its a big old river and big rivers scare and lots of water scares me to much chance of blankety blanking

  5. wsmlewy - did you try the pond on the mead vale side of moor lane at the weekend?
no i didnt manage to get out only the axe on friday leeroy which was a blankety blank for me but stag spot had a nice fish from there.stop giving secret information away on the river banwell lol! yes i have fished it a few times stalking as its crystal clear but havent really had anything bigger than 5 out of there.were do you fish it to as i have been fishing it in banwell more than anywhere although on the road bridge by bourton lane i have seen a few hurtling through after roach while walking the dog
so then bud down the lema tonight then for a spot of night fishing is it?, ill bring the ice drill lolhope its not going to be like the north drian that time lol
tht night was almost like the north drain i can remember that bloody night -5 pike fishing stupid really far to bleedy cold for them would youwant to be eating?
  6. Think 25cm could be a bit short...looking for something for traces around 30-35cm.

    why to samll easier storage

if you put the trebles on the rail at the top and put a pin as low down as possible at the bottom you can wrap the wire around the pin and secure it where it ends so in theory you just do a u-turn with it do you understand as im finding the wording of how i do it hard lol!

  7. Going to be sub zero Friday so lots of places will be frozen over.

Reckon the good old pop up would work well if there's weed on the bottom....tend only to patenoster deads in rivers where the flow keeps the rig off the bottom.

Looks like the rain hasn't f**ked the rivers too much so I'l be out on Sat roving about....looking forward to it.

i will give the old pop up ago ledger one straight to the bottom and a patternoster float rig 3 rods got to catch something i would have thought i havent had a look at the old rivers yet but am feeling much better now so i may go stalking tonight if the waters still nice and clear

  8. Posted on behalf of Scott. Please add all replies to this thread:

I cannot help you on locations for catching pike in your area but i can tell you that its difficult to know whether you are going to catch a lairy jack or a decent sized female. Unless you can actually see them and this time of year is unlikely due to water colour and height my best advice is have atleast 15lb mono or if you can braid for dead baiting a good landing net and unhooking mat along with some good forceps. When pike fishing i always go with atleast one other person to make landing and unhooking as fast as possible. regards to locating pike features are your best bet ledges, over hanging trees, weirs. if you can a spot of prebaiting may help using chopped up makerel or sprats you dont want to over feed so little amounts across a big area gets the fish searching for food, i hope this helps

  9. As above...I'm finally coming round to the joys of catching strong fighting pike rather tha 'trophy hunting' :)

    i agree

no good catching a 20lb still water fish that comes in like a carrier bag when there are plenty of tail walking jacks in small rivers to be caught i usaully have a better fight with river fish half of the size of still waters fish

  10. Sounds good Lewy....pike thrive on neglect so I'd give that pond a go

May be frozen over though on Saturday so I'd check that...last time I went to my local commercial when it was cold I ended up fishing through ice holes! lol

hope its not frozen over i will check the weather, its pretty weedy in there neil what do you think a paternoster float rig with a nice sprat and then a slow sinking lure just to cover sime water?

  11. Im from worle but now live at st georges where all the new houses are.

your talking about colins pond as it used to be known cos colin who owns the fishing shop down milton road used to own it.

i didnt think there was that many pike in there but i used to fish it loads when i was younger and it was full of tench, roach and a few carp including some big kois someone had chucked in there. there was some big old perch in there too.

it used to have swims all around it but now its overgrown except the housing estate side thats got a path going up to the only swim on it? was thinking bout giving it a go for the tench in the spring.

the pond on the other side of the bridge used to be a syndicate pond and was full of big carp up to 30 pound, pike and perch. but when they sold it to housing developers, they took all the carp out. i had a look in there bout 3 years ago and saw a pike like a log in there.

have a go at pikeing in there if u can still get in it. i know its full of crap and weed but there used to be some big buggers in there!

u might know me as everyone knows everyone in weston! but i'm more of a pole fisherman and dont do any pikeing or big carping.

strange im from locking village now live in st.georges since my parents abandoned me and moved to australia lol!

so in theory u dont need anything but a rod license for these lakes as no one has anything to do with them anymore im confused on which lake you mean had a pike like a log innit is that the one closest to meadvale or the one closest to moorlane estate i am going to have a bash this weekend if i shake this flu by then

    thanks leeroy

  12. Alright mate i've live in weston all my life and have fished near enough every pond in weston!

wheres the pond to as i can tell you whats in there. sounds like Moor Lane?

yes it is in moorlane on the right hand side with the powerlines over it were abouts you from in weston i got a feeling i know you

  13. i bought a cheap rig wallet off ebay think it was £6 delivered and its real tree just a case of hooking them on the rail at the top around the pin and back up placing annother pin in the swivel eye its as easy as that

  14. I tend to agree with this. Maybe it's a problem at extreme range but I'd hazard a guess that up to, say, 70-80 yards, mono fished 'slack' with a light/sensitive indicator would register as much as braid. It would be very interesting to see a direct comparison, I could be completely wrong!

    i agree with neil

i have fished with both mono and braid together next to each other deadbaiting for pike both close and at distances and i can assure you braid is much better

you dont have to strike half as hard due to stretch and bite detection is second to non but thats with pike,

  15. Unlucky....I don't usually show the missus how much stuff costs..order online at work and hide all reciepts lol!

haha i will have to start doing that neil i think burning the receipts will be better with my missus
