  1. correct me if im wrong but pike usaully eat injured unwell or even diseased fish they mostly eat the easiest fish to take in a shoal so in my oppinion they are doing the water a favour by getting rid of the poor quality in each species. as the saying goes only the strongest survive a 30lb pike around my area are non existant if you catch a 20lb pike you are doing well
  2. that is a nice looking rainbow indeed around the 3 1/2 no problem. i have had trout on dedbait especially sprats they are greedy and stupid fish i heard of a trout at 10lb taken on a sprat were i was fishing last month i had one at 6lb fishing for pike
  3. serus gaff wounds gaffing who the hell uses one of them coarse fishing i thought they were for landing sea fish on boats? i agree does make me sick aswell
  4. no leeroy i know exactly were you mean the waters shallow there and crystal clear i have been there before i may have a look tommorow thank you mate
  5. thank you elton they live near perth by the moor river funny enough but my brothers been fishing it apparently not that hes got a clue what hes doing hes only 9 bless him but atleast he tries. I have been there and seen people fishing in there but they were in boats its a big old river and big rivers scare and lots of water scares me to much chance of blankety blanking
  6. My mum and dad have moved to oz and i will be going there in march for a few weeks but am unsure what fish they have to offer in there rivers i know they have carp and thats about all i know any advice would be appreciated many thanks
  7. no i didnt manage to get out only the axe on friday leeroy which was a blankety blank for me but stag spot had a nice fish from there.stop giving secret information away on the river banwell lol! yes i have fished it a few times stalking as its crystal clear but havent really had anything bigger than 5 out of there.were do you fish it to as i have been fishing it in banwell more than anywhere although on the road bridge by bourton lane i have seen a few hurtling through after roach while walking the dog tht night was almost like the north drain i can remember that bloody night -5 pike fishing stupid really far to bleedy cold for them would youwant to be eating?
  8. why to samll easier storage if you put the trebles on the rail at the top and put a pin as low down as possible at the bottom you can wrap the wire around the pin and secure it where it ends so in theory you just do a u-turn with it do you understand as im finding the wording of how i do it hard lol!
  9. a spot of piking on the river yeo depending wether or not the stillwaters are iced over we will see
  10. i will give the old pop up ago ledger one straight to the bottom and a patternoster float rig 3 rods got to catch something i would have thought i havent had a look at the old rivers yet but am feeling much better now so i may go stalking tonight if the waters still nice and clear
  11. I cannot help you on locations for catching pike in your area but i can tell you that its difficult to know whether you are going to catch a lairy jack or a decent sized female. Unless you can actually see them and this time of year is unlikely due to water colour and height my best advice is have atleast 15lb mono or if you can braid for dead baiting a good landing net and unhooking mat along with some good forceps. When pike fishing i always go with atleast one other person to make landing and unhooking as fast as possible. regards to locating pike features are your best bet ledges, over hanging trees, weirs. if you can a spot of prebaiting may help using chopped up makerel or sprats you dont want to over feed so little amounts across a big area gets the fish searching for food, i hope this helps
  12. i agree no good catching a 20lb still water fish that comes in like a carrier bag when there are plenty of tail walking jacks in small rivers to be caught i usaully have a better fight with river fish half of the size of still waters fish
  13. hope its not frozen over i will check the weather, its pretty weedy in there neil what do you think a paternoster float rig with a nice sprat and then a slow sinking lure just to cover sime water?
  14. strange im from locking village now live in st.georges since my parents abandoned me and moved to australia lol! so in theory u dont need anything but a rod license for these lakes as no one has anything to do with them anymore im confused on which lake you mean had a pike like a log innit is that the one closest to meadvale or the one closest to moorlane estate i am going to have a bash this weekend if i shake this flu by then thanks leeroy
  15. its about 25 cms long light as hell comes with loads of pins and for the money you cant go wrong! I havent tried 6s init though give the seller an email he will tell you if they will fit im sure they will
