  1. Ive, heard about this spot on the coast of Oban, its said to be the mecca to drop your anchor in. anybody been to poah bay or near it????

ACKOMEISTER give Elton John a call if you want to drop your anchor in poo bay.... :o

  2. Hiya,

Is this the Corryvreckan whirpool between the islands of Jura and Scarba you are talking about?

I wouldnt drop my anchor there for a million quid, its the 3rd biggest whirlpool in the world.

    Are you daft? :rolleyes::D

  3. I have registered my boat on this loch for the season to fish for pike and bream.

Do you get pestered by the crayfish?

    Whats the best approach?

Do you have to pop-up your deadbaits?

    Will the crayfish take sweetcorn?

Any info on this matter will be more than welcome.

    THANKS.........

  4. Someone higher up on the Dee system had the bright idea of farming the crays however she forgot to build cray proof fences around her ponds and they got out and into the river system and worked their way downstream into the loch where they are about three quarters of the way down towards the hydro gatess

Won't be long before they're right down there and ruining the bank fishing there as well

I'm informed that cray eggs are getting into the water downstream of the hydro gates and that crays are getting caught below the gates

    High Brian

Do these Crayfish live throughout the loch or do they congragate at the river systems flowing into the lochs?

  5. Thanks everyone for your replies. Devonian thanks for the extra confidence with my reel.

    Dan.

Carphead, they are great reals for the price. I have 4 Epix pro baitrunners. For £50 you get 2 spare spools and a spare handle. Great value ...

  6. At the risk of going off topic, force 7 isn't a gale.

I also don't follow why you want a big tent in big winds. A larger tent has a larger frontage which will make you more susceptable to it's affects. I'd advise a lower profile, 1 man bivvy and the armo / trakker 1 man has a lot of positive comments said about it, including in windy conditions.

    Hello There.

Its a 2man tent I require as my son and I use it. The pram construction and alu poles make this tent very stable so dimensions dont really affect it compared to the 1man. As you no these bivvies have to be a home from home and keep you comfortable during periods of inclimate weather especially when fishing 2 days or more.

Newt thanks for the info on the tents but they dont offer the same protection that of a bivvy. These tents seem to be for sleeping in only and singled skin thus offering no protection from the sun. Bivvies are twin skinned so they have a constant flow of air between the skins which help cool the tent in hot weather.

Some landowners will ask you to move if you are using these coloured camping tents.

Bivvies are classed as fishing shelters.

    THANKS.

  7. Hello There

I use my 12 foot boat sometimes to ferry our gear across Lochrutton in Dumfries for a weekends fishing for pike and bream. On one occasion me and my son where packing up when I noticed that our boat had drifted about 50 yards out into the loch.Oh no I cried , I stripped down to my brown and cream Y fronts and started giving it the oh, ah, eh, oh as I waded into the frozen loch. I got to the boat and struggled in only to find that the oars where on the bank. By this time I was about 300yards from the bank, me drifting in a boat with only my pants on. Lucky they where another boat on the water who came to my rescue. And to add to my embarassment they took great pleasure parading me around the loch before they took me to shore.

  8. Hello There

Thanks for all your comments chaps but I was hoping someone who owned one could give me an idea of what there like.

Ive done my homework and I understand that there made with this new aqua type breathable material which is unaffected by heat or cold. They say it can be erected in 20 seconds, pram hood constuction which they say is very stable.

Fishing up here in Scotland through the weekends on some of our lochs can be scary, the weather can be relentless at times.

I currently own a fox continental which takes 20 mins to erect its a decent bivvy but it took a battering last year, I spent the hole night holding onto the tent poles with rain dripping into the porch area during a gale. One of my maggot tubs was left open resulting in maggots climbing all up the walls of the bivvy. I spent £300 on this bivvy and its only 3years old so I am not rushing in to buy again because it is a top brand.

So if this bivvy is as good as the makers say it is , it will be worth its weight in gold.

Cmon they must be someone out there who owns one.
