  1. Cheers Colin I will try and get in contact with him, I have fished the fjords in the past for Tench and I have caught some very good Tench with the smallest being about 7lb 4oz so they are a very good size, but it is a hard water and I don't see many people fish it, and I want to try some of the other large waters instead.
  2. Hi ya mate, I would stick to Andersons if I was you for Tench, the lakes are up a little at the moment because of the rain, but they should soon be down again, they don't take long to drain off. Your best bet for Tench would be the bank behind the Ivo lake, where you can walk between the two lakes and one of my favourite pegs is the one on Andersons where the channel meets the main part of Andersons behind the corner of the Ivo lake, it's about 7 feet deep in the channle half way across and I would float fish there, or near the lillys and reeds at the back of the channel. But to be honest all the pegs in that channel are good, and I normally float fish, as it's not very wide or deep there. Take some expo groundbait mixed with brown crumb if you can add some crushed hemp or hemp, or halibut pellets, throw about 3-4 balls out at the start of the session. Then just lose feed after that with whatever hookbait you decide to use red maggot and caster are good early season, as is sweetcorn, but I have found lobworm to be the best hookbait, maybe because it floods a bit and they are probally used to seeing lobworms. I find they can bubble up a lot but not touch your hookbait sometimes, when using maggot, but put a worm on and you usally get a bite straight away. My other top tip is get there at the crack of dawn if you can, as they tend to feed really well from about 7 till 10ish then it can often go pretty dead all day till the next morning. But you should get a couple at least this time of year, my best catch is 12 in a morning and lost a couple and they avarage around 5-6lb with my best just under 8lb. Hope that helps ya mate and I may see you down there, good luck and let me know how you get on, Lee
  3. Hello has anyone fished the St.Ives lakes in St.Ives near cambridge? I am fishing them at the moment and I have enjoyed some great Tench sport on the smaller lakes like, Andersons and The Ivo, but I want to know if anyone has fished the larger lakes like Long Reach, The St.Ives lagoon or the shallow lagoon, Long Reach and the meadow lake for Tench or Bream, as I have heard there are big tench and bream in all of the above lakes. If you have fished them for Tench and Bream have you got any advice, such as baits and rigs and fishing pegs on the lakes, as they are massive pits and I don't really know where to start fishing for them, or maybe someone has some advice on finding Tench feautures like do you fish on a gravel bar or off the gravel bar in the deeper water, or shall I try shallow arears, any help would be great thanks.
  4. As like clockwork this season caught a 4lb 9oz male Tench at 9.15, fished from 5.30am till 11.30 am, and like normal they started to fizz on and off from 7.30 but moved out the swim pretty much after 11. They really are not too interested this season so far and I can't really work out why. The pits I fish you can normally catch a average of 3 -4 a session this time of year and it has been like that for the past 10-12 years, but not this year so far.
  5. Generally Tench don't feed in bright sunlight on hot days, unless it's say early spring or early autum or winter time. Thats not to say you can't as I have caught them midday on a blazing hot day, they just seem too like early mornings and evenings. Like boldbear says, I to don't catch them much through the night, and I have read in a few Tench books that they generally don't feed at night for some strange reason, and that might explain bluerinse's comment that when he throughs groundbait in the evening the next morning the Tench are fizzing on it. I have often baited up a swim as it gets dark to return in the morning to find my swim fizzing. P.S does any one know of any good tench waters in the st.ives cambs area, not including the st.ives pits as they are my local pits I fish
  6. Well I am giving it a early session this morning and will let you know how I get on, Just this season the Tench are acting very strange in my local waters at the moment lol
  7. I agree with Expo groundbait I allways use it when I am after Tench, mixed with brown crumb. If you don't have any groundbait use hemp and halibut pellet as lose feed Tench love that stuff. As for bait red maggot, caster, worms and one of my new favourite baits for tench are those hali hooker pellets, I had loads of Tench on them last year.
  8. Hello has any one got any opinions on good times of the day to catch Tench, mainly in gravel pits. On my local pits it allways seemed to be first light at dawn or in the evening. But the last few seasons seemed to have changed, the evening sessions now are nearly a waste of time, dawn sessions still seem to be the best, but not at first light like you might thing but between 7.30 till 10.30 in the morning. You can catch in the day if it is cloudy and rainy, or if they are really on the feed, but so far this season they don't seem to feeding too well yet, I have only caught 5 Tench this year compared to nearly 50 this time last year. I know the weather was better in April last year, the other thing is they seem to bubble up for a bit and then off they go, when normally if they are bubbling up you will catch a couple. Has anyone else noticed changes in there Tench fishing on their local waters? Let me know what you think cheers. Tight lines
  9. Cheers I will have to try some Archie Braddock range I will get some of the net, caught 2 tench this morning, I used some scopex flavour on my maggots and others down there were not catching, I will have to keep experimenting on different flavours.
  10. Hello I am wanting to try flavouring maggots, but I don't know how much flavour to add, as I have read to much is a bad thing. I have the Van Den Eynde range of liquid flavours, but it does not say on the bottle of how much you should use. How much liquid attractor would I need to flavour say a pint of maggots. Also does anyone know a good Tench flavour, Cheers
  11. How much van den eynde liquid attractors should i use on say a pint of maggots, it does not tell you on the bottle, I don't want to over do it.
