  1. elderberries....ahh i remember using these on the canal where the trees overhung on the water. the roach and skimmers absolutely loved them! I don't know about storage, I just take a bait box and pick them as i'm walking to my peg :)

  2. So I was reading Anglers Mail this week, and it said that the Chub were loving banded pellet over 3mm sprayed pellet. My question is will a pellet waggler be ok for rivers or should i stick with a larger stick float?

  3. I was having great fun fishing on the surface on Monday but because my hooklink didnt seem to float too well a lot of potential catches seemed to be spooked by it.

Its suggested that I grease the line to make it float but what grease do I use? Normal grease from B&Q??

If its a tackle shop thing then what should I look for?

    Thanks.

    vaseline should be fine :)

  4. Mixing groundbait should be the second thing you do when you get to your swim (after setting your chair up!) By the time you've got everything else ready, it should be the right consistency, if not you can add more water :D

  5. Hi banjo!

I'd recommend a simple float fishing setup, with bulk shot around the float and a couple of smaller shot to sink the bait. If you have a plummet, find the depth and start fishing at dead depth (just touching the bottom). From there, you can decide whether the bites are coming from that depth, lying on the bottom, or up in the water.

Ideal bait would be a couple of pints of maggots, a tub of worms and maybe some sweetcorn! Bread is worth a go too, but quite hard to keep on the hook. When using flake (ie not part of the crust), cover the hook with the piece and just pinch it on around the eye and shank. Don't pinch too much as you'll take away the natural action of the flake in the water.

Hope that gives you something to go on!

  6. Well I'd definately be up for some bream fishing, I don't really have access to any "slabs" near me, unless I fish the Thames (which is proving VERY difficult for me >_<), so yeah DO IT!

  7. I'd say Jacks are the pike from 1-5lb in weight, they can be great sport on light gear or a fly rod.

Tmw I'm going to have another go with the lures as I'm pretty convinced that static baits are a no - go until Sept/Oct and the bait fish start shoaling up, I think the pike are everywhere this time of year and it's pretty hard to find them in numbers.

I think I'm going to take a walk down the canal with my lure rod tonight and have a plug. Have you tried just dropping the lure a couple of metres out from the bank and just walking down the towpath? I've had loads of jacks bombing out from under the near bank, some flying right out of the water to take the lure!

  8. I wouldn't mind some advice on the ways to fish pellet properly, as well as the types and how to prepare them well. I picked up some Sonubait "stay on the hook" 6mm hookable pellets and they fish ok, but i can't get my head round them wanting to eat something green and radioactive looking :S
