  1. Thanks for the couple of replies.... I was a little surprised I didn't get much response... maybe it's because I'm like the novice... sitting by the river with a 5 foot telescopic Woolworths rod and round red and white float, fishing at a depth of one foot.... that people just ignore Thanks for the note, I will get to a tackle shop and check out equipment and take some advice. I'll check out that reel you mentioned too. I'm just hoping this decent spell of weather holds up so I can get out and do some fishing before winter sets in!
  2. Hi, After a long break from fishing, I'm getting back into the sport. I used to do plenty of course fishing (match and carp) but have not fished for 16 or 17 years now. I am starting from scratch and need to buy rod(s), reel(s) etc etc.... I'm happy to spend what I need to and don't intend to scrimp on cost... but not go too mad - this is the credit crunch after all!! I'm looking for general purpose gear just to get me going... a rod that would be suitable for commercial waters, rivers, lakes etc... for match fishing plus carp, tench, bream (not monster fish obviously) etc.... and same for the reel. So... I've had a look and I'm thinking of either of the following rods: Drennan Series 7 Carp Waggler 13" Drennan Series 7 13" Competition Float Rod In terms of reels, I've got no shortlist but would appreciate comments / thoughts. I'd be fishing lakes and rivers in the main (little bit of trotting on some rivers), but again would like something versatile (float fishing only really). I'd like to get a decent seat box.... again, not really had a look or done much research but would like people's thoughts on that. I'm basically looking to get all the essentials and then build up my "collection" of kit in the coming months / years.... Any recommendations etc would be most appreciated.
  3. Hi, Well.... after a long break of 16 or 17 years, I've decided to get back into a spot of coarse fishing. I flogged all my old fishing gear many years ago - so away went the match rod, carp rods, reels etc... so the first thing I need to do is find the right sort of new gear. I'm going to kick off a thread in the Course Fishing area and see if you guys can help / advise. Thanks very much and I hope you guys can help me get going and catch a few fish!
