    Well, I voted for GS, but, Elton, can you reveal why you particularly need to get the anglers' vote on these two ladies? Are they anglers, for example? Or potential wives, daughters in law, secretaries, etc etc?

     

    It's just occurred to me. You took your fishing rods to your m-i-l over Xmas, and there were many predictions of death, divorce etc. Is there a link? And did you catch anything?

    I'm with Kleinbot on this one (too bloody old). Vera Lynn any good??

    14 was always the calling channel for local users and the truckers stuck to 19.

    Well this thread certainly brought the memories flooding back. I got my CB radio in 1977, a President Adams (smashing rig). I, like many others operated on side-band which of course was illegal but was certainly very enjoyable. When the government kindly gave us the use of FM it killed it as far as I was concerned. To cut a long story short I studied and passed the City & Guilds exams and obtained my Radio Amateur licence in 1982 and am still active on it now. Although I find it very enjoyable, somehow it just does not carry the same excitement as the old illegal days. I do know several people who were "busted" by BUZBY and who were fined and had their gear confiscated. As I had a 3 element beam on the roof of my pub I was surprised that I wasn't one of them.

    Ah well, happy days.

    10-10 till we do it again.

    Redmire Pool Trip

    Reading this thread has made me feel rather sad. I am now 71 and remember reading about Redmire and Richard Walkers capture of the then amazing 44lb carp record with awe. It has always held a bit of magic for me although I have never been there. Ah well, times change.

    I wish the best of luck to any one fishing there but for me anyway the magic has gone.

    Sounds a decent session Rudd, well done. Hope the fingers have healed nicely.

     

     

    Well done Rudd. Reminded me of the time I fished all night with a hook buried in my thumb.

    Had to have it cut out following morning. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, IT WAS THE ONLY THING i HOOKED

    ALL NIGHT. lol.

    Four people were in a train compartment. A lovely young blonde, a really ugly old lady, a Frenchman and an Englishman. The train entered a long dark tunnel and halfway through there was the sound of an almighty slap and a loud cry of pain.

    When the train re-emerged into the light it was seen that the Frenchman had a very red handprint on the side of his face.

    The blonde thought " I know what happened there. That French swine tried to grope me, got the old lady by mistake and she clocked him."

    The old lady thought "I know what happened there. That slimey Frenchmman tried to grope the blonde

    and she has given him a right good slap."

    The Frenchman thought " I know what happened there. That bloody Englishman groped the blonde, she thought it was me and clouted me for nothing."

    The Englishman thought " I hope there is another tunnel coming up, I'll give that French git another one"

    Black & Decker

    In September 05 we purchased an electric kettle from a locxal hardware store. It was a Morphy Richards and cost £40. Two weeks ago it gave up the ghost. The shop we got it from has changed hands.

    We couldn't find the receipt but did have the Morphy Richards Service number. I wasn't very optimistic but phoned the number and explained the circumstances to a very pleasant lady. I was asked for the serial number on the kettle and was then told there was no problem as a new kettle would be posted to us. We received it three days later.

    Just goes to prove that they aint all bad.

    No wonder you lot of disbelievers dont catch many fish. Next time you go fishing try this.

    When speaking of it afterwards

    Will never need to lie.

    This must be done whilst running around the lake three times backwards wearing over-sized wellies.

    Slack Lines

    Try to get a look at the Korda underwater carp fishing videos. They really show you the affects of back leading and slack lining. As can be seen different bottoms call for different tactics. They are excellent films but prove that there is no hard and fast answer. You pays your money and takes your choice.

    I, and I suspect many other anglers, know very little about FACT. I would like to endorse the suggestion from j_s that Bruno enlightens us a little on what needs to be done.

    Although I have found this thread to be of great interest, I do not like to see the animosity and pesonal attacks that make up a large part of it.

    Come on chaps lets have the debate and arguments kept at a civil level. Arguments carry far more weight when the personal attacks are omitted.

    Strangest thing you ever saw.............

    Many years ago, I decided to do an all nighter on the River Lodden, near Arborfield. It was a warm summer night but very dark. As the night became quieter and quiteer I became aware of what I can only describe as a rasping sort of coughing noise that came every few minutes. As I wondered what this could be I suddenly remembered reading about a black panther that was supposedley sighted in the region. I listened hard and sure enough thats what it was, the cough of a big cat.

    The gear was packed in record time and I legged it back to the car. About half a mile down the road were some road works and a pump was working clearing water from the hole.

    COUGH it went just like a big cat.

    You bloody fool I thought to myself but the all nighter became an early nighter, I never went back.
