  1. Every time I go into my local shop there are several people stood round drinking brews, they fall into two distinct groups. Match anglers and carp fanatics. I don't fall into either, so have never been offered a brew. The service isn't bad, it is just as much as I get in other shops (non fishing), so I can escape with just what I want. Today a pint of little wigglies a feeder (to replace one lost) and some swivels. Off to put them to use now. Cheers OT
  2. Circle hooks pre date metalworking! The oldest examples are made of horn, bone and stone, True they are mostly used in longlining but not developed for it. Stone age man did the development work. That said I'll be trying this out. Sounds much better than trebles. Cheers, OT
  3. Just one other thing, get the longest rod you can practically use. I'll be getting a 10 footer (4 weight) this year. A lot of time on a river you will need the reach. Far more use than fancy casts. The real specialists for grayling use up to 13 foot rods. These may be out of your pockets range but take a look http://shop.siman.cz/ Cheers OT
  4. That is some fly... or is it flies?
  5. Last March I was at the Lough's Agency show in Derry when a new record spey casting distance was set (206 feet came to mind but I'm not sure). The cast cleared the casting pool and the rise beyond it, it was huge. I think I may have upset people when I said, " Amazing cast but what is the point in a cast that misses the water?" Cheers OT
