  2. There's a topic pinned which says something like AN Photo comp - <edit> - it's the very top post 'AN photo comp Feb onwards'. You just need to register with the site and then you can upload your pictures directly (just need to be under 512K). Details are on that post, but shout if you have problems.

  5. Hi..............,

My name is Jessica. I am from Ireland. I was found this forum for last few days but now I hope I will enjoy in this forum. This is very interesting foum. :)

    Helo and welcome

  6. Those are both decent scores and should see you thinking your internet is reasonably fast. We have a medium speed internet service (not willing to pay for really fast) and I got similar results.

The slower upload speed is normal. Most of us don't really need to be able to push stuff out really fast so the usual for an ISP is to give you fast in and slow out.

Exactly what seems slow to you? Your raw broadband speed (how fast stuff moves in and out) seems fine.

Also as a sort of quick & dirty test of the PC, download http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb896653.aspx and run it to have a detailed look at exactly how much resource is being used and (when you aren't doing much of anything) if you have less than 90% free CPU use on average.

thanks for your help laptop now runing fine

  7. still having a problem using wireless to go online.

i thought it was my BT home hub v1.5 but managed to find a version 2 (coool) at the boot fair still wrapped.

gleefully plugging it in i ran the software ,the PC sees the hub (good signal hoorah) the software sees the broadband connection (cool) and checks my phone number to make sure its me but after its told me alls well and have a nice day it wont connect to here! or anywhere!!!

web browser page tells me everything looks ok but check the firewall etc ,done that switched it off! nothing! even bt help chunders to a halt because it cant connect.plug in ethernet and alls well!

I can see the hub in wireless networks with a good signal and its connected ,why cant i play online???.

second attempt at installing told me to make windows control the connections ,did that and it seemed happy and continued the install.

looking at the wireless conection details windows cant see a problem with it but the details have blanks after the "default gateway" and "WINS server"? the ethernet connection has the "default gateway" filled in but not the WINS one

sir as a new internet user am with bt and i have had the same problem as you got my hub 2.0 (black) on friday 3/4/09 and had to link via ethernet cable as bt told me to do .Everything worked fine till a tried to go wifi in the gardon after 2hours and many cups of coffee bt told me a was on the wrond setting . Sir if you are still havin bother with it . Press your windows button and look for HUB MANAGER load that up and goto SETTINGS enter your admin code if you don't have one LOOK on the back of your hub now then goto wireless and change your channel till you fine one that works am on channel 11 and that now work fine. I hope that work out for you.

  8. Does anyone know if it is possible or what provider can provide broadband without having to pay for a phone line?

hopefuly without using the mobile broadband thingys as as far as i can tell they all have download limits which is no good, and i cant use xbox live with them.

I did alittle digging i hope this helps:

http://www.iapbb.net/ who supply wireless broadband. Basically you have a small aerial on your roof with a small box attached to it. The wire from this is fed inside to a small modem then direct to your PC. You pay your subscription to IAP it doesnt come up on your phone bill so this would work even if you had NO telephone line. If this is not what you what trie NTL broadband its only 9.99 amonth.

  9. That is certainly plenty of PC (way more power and speed than mine) and Vista is good about making use of the broadband connection without the user needing to tweak the setup.

Try the speed tests at http://resources.zdnet.co.uk/speedtest/ and http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/ (only click on the speed test - you DO NOT want their free scan or speed enhancer items). Compare what they see as your speed with what you are paying for and post back.

You could possibly be so far from the nearest exchange that at best, you have a fairly slow connection but more likely, there are some adjustments your provider needs to make.

You are very welcome here. Ignore the remark by yorkio - he may have had a touch of indigestion or something.

thankyou sir  . Guess a should sent yorkio some rennie's that should clear his indigestion up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tried both site and got 7816 kbits download in 2.171 sec from zdnet and 4296 kbps download and upload of 370 kps IS THAT GOOD?????????
