  1. "Funny people these anglers, they love the fish but 60 of them are quite happy to haul it out of the lake by a metal hook in its' mouth until it is too exhausted to struggle any more, They call it sport?......" Funny coz if 60 anglers hauled himout with a metal hook then y was he still alive to be poisioned by peanuts? And yes we do call it a sport coz the fish go back at the end of the day, If fishing is such a bad sport ....... {remainder removed as being a bit over the top. Newt}
  2. Well inline with this topic i heard those beautiful words from the wife this morning "wanna go fishing" boy i didnt need a second invite so loaded the stuff into the car and off to the local cannal we trotted via the bait shop for some maggots. 4 hours later a little damp from the 3 showers and 8 - 1 down we called it quits and just in time to get the kids from school If anyone says women cant fish think again i dont know if it was down to luck or skill but i got my butt kicked today and its probabley not the last time.
  3. Hi all well its time to venture out of my comfort zone and see if i can catch a few fish elsewhere, other than my local cannal. I was just wondering if anyone knows any good fishing spots in the lancs area pref around rochalde/oldham areas. I wouldnt say im a massive carp fan and i have no experiance on faster moving water. Would it be adviseable to find a local fishing club so i can learn from those more experianced??? many thanks in advance

  5. i have read alot of posts and maybe this is a very stupid question to ask but when people talk about a swim is this a natural accurance of fish feeding or is it something created by the angler when using things like ground bait ect. I only ask coz where i fish in my local cannal i can never seen anything past a few inchs into the water. I have only started using ground bait this weekend to little effect but then again i only fished for a few hours. many thanks in advance for answering a newbies question.
  6. hi all i purcahsed a pack of 5 pre wieghted floats today as they where going cheap and just wondered what peoples opinion on them was?? I am a newbie to fishing and thought they might help when setting up due to less time playing about with shotting the line. I was also wondering if these are as flexible as normal floats, as in can u play with the shotting patterens as much??? I made up a simple rig to have a play about with them in a large bucket tonight to see how they behaved in water and they cock without any wiegth does this mean i need only smaller shot on the line in order to get my bait where i want it??? many thanks in advance
  7. Well having only fished on my local canal i have caught a few roach and perch with just a very simple float setup size 18 hook and double maggots i havent even got round to using any ground bait yet. I have got some now and will be using it for the first time this weekend.

    Hi all

    Hi all new member and new to fishing so plz expect lots of stupid questions come from my direction. I have recently got into fishing thanks to my wife(how backwards is that) and am enjoying my self loads down at our local canal and even caught my first fish 2 days ago. my question is regarding float fishing, the floats i currantly have arnt very expensive to be honest, but they have info on them that i just dont seem to be able to get my head round. I think it has somthing to do with the amount of weight required to "cock" the float could some plz confirm or put me stright on this plz. Also when shotting is it better to go with the smaller weigths spread out or the larger weight. From what info i have found online this all deapends what depth u wish to fish at. I have not spent thousands on my fishing gear prob not even hundreds to be honest but i do get a buzz from just waiting for a bite weird how i only find this out in later life. many thanks in advance
