  1. I was on a site recently reading about steelhead fishing with pin reels and dry fly's, it really caught my imagination and gave me a reason to part with some hard earned, but before I buy I guess I need to know a few things. I am a novice fly fisher and can just about get my line out in the river, but love the method and tackle, I suppose I'm a purist at heart. As with my other pastime archery I use traditional purist tackle and do it the hard way. I have never used a pin reel but I think this method would suit my traditionalist attitude. Is any one using this type of tackle for drifting a dry fly down stream, any help & advice would be greatly apreceated. Thanks Mick
  2. After an absence of five years from fishing I decided to buy a new rod and a Wigan card. Sat morning I was up early and off to Heapey No3 for some fun. On my third cast my mepps no1 enticed a nice pike, as I eased out the net he had other ideas a quick roll and flick and he was gone. Not to disheartened I continued and was rewarded with a lovely perch, ok not a monster predator by any stretch but a handful after being away for so long. I had forgotten the buzz you get when the rod suddenly bends, some time later after changing swims I was rewarded with another perch, the cast was right under an overhanging tree, as soon as the mepps hit the water he took. All in it was a great way to come back to the water, two and a half fish and buckets of fun. I'm off to the Ribble at weekend for some chub and barbel, who knows the way my luck is going I may hook that elusive monster.
  3. Thanks Boldbear. When you say Avon ,is that one of the three tips that come with the rod, or the standard stiffer top section. Once again apologies for my ignorance on terminology. Thanks Mick
  4. It's been a while since I was on the river (2004). Work, life, etc.... I am back with a renewed enthusiasm. The reason for my post is, the rod I used back then is my 12' Greys Prodigy Barble 1.5lb TC. I used this rod for ledger only and had a few decent fish, but now I fancy a go at float fishing for barble, will this rod be ok for centre pin reels, it has three quiver tips 2/3&4oz. This may seem like an obvious question but I only have a couple of years fishing experience and the amount of tackle available is mind blowing, I don't want to go and spend a fortune on a rod I may not need I want to keep it simple and light. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mick
  5. Just thought i'd say hello, been a while since i was on the river(work/family commitments etc ). Got my licence last week, so i'll be getting my line wet soon. Mick
