I tried hooking them without the hair-rig thru the 2 white hard bits of the mussel but still got the problem of it flying off

Hi I have been having a nitemare today no matter how I hair-rigged mussels every time i cast out they shot off the hair... im using a size 12 hook also using plastic boilie stops thats shaped like a "V" ...I have to cast pretty far out to reach the island so a soft cast im unable to reach it.... any help greatfully welcome also having the same trouble with prawns [V]
