Began fishing and spent my first night after a days fishing under the stars camping rough in an old woollen ex-army blanket back in the 1953/1954 season, found I love the outdoors as much as fishing and always have. Enjoying the countryside and both the solitude and the friendly camaraderie of fellow anglers. I am always ready love to learn new or old methods and I don't think what I know is better than what anyone else knows. Although like most anglers I tend to be a bit stick in the mud and stay with what works for me.

Preferring natural baits and home made baits over shop bought ones. I have and do make lots of my own tackle rods (including building split cane), floats and so on. I use rods made of just about everything. I use fixed spool reels, centrepins, fly reels and multipliers. With whatever fishing technique I feel or think is appropriate to use at the time of fishing which will vary on species, venue and weather. I am a great believer of river craft or water craft skills and country craft. Fished or hunted everything there is, on land, in the air and on and in the water all over the world. I have eaten many unusual things sometimes without cooking things which would make a Billy goat retch and be sick. I have become a very experienced backwoodsman.
