  1. I have had a very busy summer of inshore saltwater fishing trips here on the Mosquito Lagoon flats and in the Backcountry at Edgewater and New Smyrna Beach, Florida. On the grass flats the Redfishing has been very steady with the summer pattern of fishing the mullet schools early and sight casting the sand holes later in the morning. Also some nice size Seatrout coming aboard. Backcountry trips have had steady action with some keeper Seatrout, Black Drum, and Mangrove Snapper. The Jack Crevalle and Ladyfish are always there to provide exciting strikes and fish fights from these fun catch and release game fish. We even had a few exciting moments from Tarpon strikes and jumps which were a little to much for our light Trout tackle to handle for long. Here are a couple of pictures from recent trips. My nephew Christopher Frost with his first ever Redfish and client Mike with a nice Black Drum caught on one of my Backcountry mixed bag trips. Come fish with me on beautiful Mosquito Lagoon for flats fishing, we will target Redfish and Seatrout. This type of sight fishing can be challenging and very rewarding when you hook up with a drag pulling Redfish or Trout. Good for experienced anglers or the less experienced anglers looking for a new fishing challenge. Or you could try one of my Indian River Backcountry Fishing trips, that is mixed bag fishing for Seatrout, Redfish, Black Drum, Jack Crevalle, Ladyfish, Bluefish, Snapper, & many more saltwater fish. On the average Backcountry trip we catch between 10 and 15 (or more) different species of saltwater fish. You never know what will bite with this type of fishing, mainly drift fishing while free lining live shrimp on light tackle make for lots of rod bending and drag pulling. Fun for experienced anglers and an easy way for less experienced anglers to be successful at catching lots of fish. MY BOAT COMFORTABLY ACCOMMODATES 1 TO 4 ANGLERS Located close to DAYTONA BEACH, NEW SMYRNA BEACH and ORLANDO, FLORIDA. Feel free to contact me at any time with questions you may have about my fishing charters. CHILDREN ALWAYS WELCOME – FAIR PRICES Capt. Pictured is my regular client George with a great Redfish, on George’s trip along with his 2 grandsons we caught 6 Reds and many Trout. Also pictured is new client Jerry with his 26” Seatrout, on this trip along with his 2 friends we caught 10 Reds up to 27”and several other smaller Trout. 4. On a great charter fishing trip on Mosquito Lagoon recently with my client Kelly, her husband, & their friend, we stalked a school of jumbo Redfish, while they were tailing, we caught up with them and Kelly hooked up and caught this 44” Red, on 10 lb test spin tackle, estimated weight 29 pounds, using the length times girth formula. Kelly also caught this 27” Seatrout which weighed almost 7 pounds. To further show up the guys on the boat, she also caught this 31” Redfish at 11.5 pounds. We are still having fun Edgewater Indian River Backcountry trips with lots of easier fishing type action, lots of Jack Crevalle and Ladyfish with Trout and Black Drum in the mix also. I offer Mosquito Lagoon Flats Fishing trips for Redfish, Seatrout, & Black Drum .This type of sight fishing can be challenging and very rewarding when you hook up with a drag pulling Redfish, Drum, or Trout. 5. We are always having fun hunting for Redfish when fishing on Mosquito Lagoon. Pictured are my friend and client Randy and his son Scott showing off the 30” Red that Scott caught fishing with me on the flats. We caught 6 Reds while sight fishing a school on a beautiful, calm, Mosquito Lagoon morning. The other picture is Jake from North Carolina and his 5 pound Black Drum caught on one of my Edgewater Backcountry mixed bag trips. Also caught were 3 other Drum along with Seatrout, Bluefish, Jack Crevalle, Ladyfish, and more. Summer is coming soon with its picture perfect calm mornings, and light warm breeze, then our cooling afternoon sea-breeze. Fishermen and fish alike will be enjoying our wonderful, East Central Florida, Indian River, and Mosquito Lagoon salt water backcountry. I offer Mosquito Lagoon Flats Fishing trips for Redfish, Seatrout, & Black Drum .This type of sight fishing can be challenging and very rewarding when you hook up with a drag pulling Redfish, Drum, or Trout. 6. Springtime fishing here in Edgewater and MOSQUITO LAGOON, Florida has been great. On my backcountry mixed bag trips we have been catching Seatrout, Black Drum, Redfish, Sheepshead, Bluefish, Jack Crevalle, Ladyfish, and more. You never know what will bite with this type of fishing, mainly drift fishing while free lining live shrimp on light tackle make for lots of rod bending and drag pulling. Fun for experienced anglers and an easy way for less experienced anglers to be successful at catching lots of fish. REDFISH and Seatrout fishing on the flats of Mosquito Lagoon has also been lots of fun with many great Reds and Trout being caught. This type of sight fishing is more challenging and very rewarding when you hook up with a drag pulling Red. As summer arrives, Redfish and Seatrout fishing will only get better as the fun summer pattern of MOSQUITO LAGOON fishing returns. Pictured below : Capt Mike Bales and myself with a pair of twin Reds and client Chris with a great 30” Redfish. My boat accommodates from 1 to 4 anglers. 7. We have been catching Redfish, Seatrout, and Sheepshead on many charters the last few weeks. Water and air temperatures have remained colder than normal for February. On the flats of Mosquito Lagoon the Redfish are in their winter schools and have gotten used to the cold water temps of upper 40’s to low 50’s F’. We are catching Reds and Seatrout on select size shrimp, live mud minnows and finger mullet. Backcountry trips are targeting Sheepshead in the deeper holes and drop-offs, our mixed bag fishing with many more species of saltwater game fish will return soon as the water will be warming with the arrival of spring in East Central Florida. Pictured are clients Fernando with his Redfish and Gene with a Seatrout. I offer Mosquito Lagoon Flats Fishing trips for Redfish and Seatrout, for the novice or experienced angler alike. I also offer Indian River Backcountry Fishing trips, that is mixed bag fishing for Seatrout, Redfish, Black Drum, Jack Crevalle, Ladyfish, and more. On the average Backcountry trip we catch between 10 and 15 (or more) different species of saltwater fish. This type of trip can be extremely entertaining for beginners or experienced anglers. 8. Fishing is getting back to normal on Mosquito Lagoon after our long hard freeze during the first 2 weeks of January. Water temperatures were between 40’F and 45’F for an extended length of time. Our population of larger size Seatrout which love to frequent the shallow flats during the winter were hit very hard by the freezing water with large numbers of dead large Trout seen on most shallow flats in our entire area. Local area fishing guides will be trying to protect the remaining populations of these large female breeder fish by self imposed catch and release ethics into the future. Hopefully one day the state of Florida will see the wisdom to better protect the large Seatrout as they do Redfish & Snook with a maximum size limit. Redfish are much more cold water tolerant and we are seeing and catching Redfish again from the winter schools of Reds that live in the Mosquito Lagoon. Schools of slot size and larger Reds on the shallow flats and schools of smaller size juvenile Reds in the deeper sloughs and cuts. Great news is that we have been also catching great numbers of small size Seatrout in the sloughs and cuts also as the schools of smaller Trout seem to frequent the deeper holes and channels during the cold weather so they were in water not quite as cold as there larger cousins in the shallower water. These small Trout will be the base population already in place to help rebuild our Trout numbers in the future. Here are a couple of pictures of a Fly Caught Seatrout with my client Claude, and also a picture of a client with one of the fun scrappy “Runt Reds” we have been catching so many of. 9. The past week I had several charters with some family trips and children, so it was the perfect time to hit the Edgewater Backcountry for mixed bag fishing. These trips each had catches of 25 to 50 or more small schooling Bluefish which are here with the winter’s cold water, which has been between 56 and 58 degrees F. Also in the mixed bag catch on each trip were several Sheepshead, Seatrout, small Redfish, Ladyfish, and a few Black Drum, and more. Great fast action and fun on light spin tackle. Pictured is a pretty little 14 spot Redfish and a nice Black Drum. With the winter schooling pattern for Mosquito Lagoon Redfish in place, sight fishing for Reds on the flats will be the main tactic for the rest of the winter. 10. Redfish have continued to be our main target on Mosquito Lagoon. Even with some cold weather and colder water this December, the Reds that we have been catching are still holding to the late fall pattern, that is small schools, singles and pairs of fish. They are still eating live and cut finger mullet, but a large shrimp is also a great choice of bait. On charter trips the last few days, catches continue to average close to 10 Reds per trip, with a few of them being at “top of the slot” or 27” and over, up to 30” these are 7 to 10 pound fish and are a super fight on light tackle. Pictured below is Will on a cold day with a great Redfish and Dave with another good Redfish. As the water gets colder the Reds will start to gather in to bigger and tighter schools for the rest of the winter. 11. Redfish catching on Mosquito Lagoon has been great this mid November week, on a few charter fishing trips this week, clients have caught from 6 to 10 Reds each outing with fish over the slot size of 27” on each trip. We have been finding loosely knit schools in shallow water with mixed sand and grass bottom as well as along shorelines also with mixed bottom. Best baits have been fresh cut mullet chunks and live small finger mullet. Some nice Seatrout have also been brought to the boat and released as they are out of season in our region of Florida this month. Donovan and his dad caught 6 Reds to 29” as seen in the picture on their father and son trip. Fernando caught 6 Reds up to 30.5” on his solo trip as seen in the picture below. 12. We have had many great fishing trips the past few weeks here in our area of New Smyrna Beach, Daytona Beach, Orlando, Mosquito Lagoon, & Edgewater. Catching Redfish weighing 25 to 30 pounds near Ponce Inlet. Catching many Seatrout, also Black Drum in the backcountry at Edgewater and Mosquito Lagoon flats fishing trips are producing Redfish from slot size keepers to over slot size Reds up to 10 pounds, also some larger Seatrout up to 27” on the flats.
