  1. Hi all, Can anybody tell me what 4x10, 4x12 etc mean in relation to pole float weights does it mean the float takes 4 No 10 shot or 4 No 12 shot for example? Also how do you know how many shot a float takes when talking in grams for example how do you know how much shot a 0.5g or 1g float takes? I know you can shot them by trial and error but it would be nice to know roughly how much shot each float can take. Is there a chart available? What size float is regarded as a small or large float i.e. how big or small do pole floats get? Thanks for your help

  3. Don't know if washing up lquid used - i haven't used it. Could it be that some of the elastic remains and is stuck in the gap between the sections and this is causing the sections to jam? If so anybody got any ideas Thanks

  5. hi, when using the lift method should the shot be heavy enough to sink the float if rig isn't set deep enough? or else how do you accurately plumb up to set the shot on the bottom?

  7. hi all, the top two sections of my pole were elasticated when I bought it second hand. Recently they got stuck (the first section would not come back down through the second section) and i couldn't get the bung out so i cut the elastic. Problem is it is still stuck. The first section moves about 6 inches down through the second section then just jams. Any ideas? Also when trying to elasticate another spare top section the elastic gets stuck about halfway down the first section although the diamond eyed threader goes all the way through(it does need a firm push at the point where the elastic gets stuck)what can be causing this blockage? any help? thanks

  9. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hi all, the canal near where i live is supposed to be fishing well for tench from 1lb - 4lb. What methods and baits can you suggest to specifically target them? Don't think sweetcorn does very well on the canal. Also the part where people are supposed to be catching them is only about 12ft wide and roughly 18 inches deep maybe 2ft. Very weedy as well. There is never anybody there for me to ask. Any help greatly appreciated. thanks

    Hook tiers

hi, I have tried using a matchman and a drennan hook tier but eithier the finished knot slips down the hook shank or when rotating the hook tier the trapped line slips down the hook shank. Also the instructions say to point the tier at the reel line but how do i do this when i am holding the tier with one hand and the tail end with the other. If i have to keep the reel line taut how do i do this. Can anybody please help?

  15. hi, I have bought loads of books for beginners and the one i have found to be by far the best general book is 'The new book of coarse fishing' by allan haines and mac campbell. It was written sometime in the 90s. Don't know if still available. Unlike some books i have found, it tells you why to do certain things not just how to do it.
