  1. Rats and leeches, two things that make me squirm! Fairplay to you removing them, not proud to say I think i'd have thrown it back with a girly scream!
  2. Good point Chris, but surely the fact is that a certain species of fish weighs that amount, it should be recorded? Or just ignored?
  3. Thanks anderoo, I was sure 6 pounders had been caught. I don't see why all record fish aren't recorded, whether it was caught without a license the fact is there is still a fish that weighs that amount, it shouldn't be condoned but I do think they should be put on the list. Dave
  4. Morning, Does anybody know what the official perch record is? I got a free app for my new phone with a list of all the fish records on it. It had perch down at 5lb 9oz 8dr. I thought there had been 6 pounders caught? Or were these not official, I heard a story of someone that caught a 6 pound perch but in the pictures the idiot was stood right next to a no fishing sign, maybe that was it. So is it 5lb 9oz 8dr or is it 6lb plus? Cheers, Dave
  5. Do you think they will actually fire nuclear missiles then phone?
  6. Hi all, On the pond again today, fishing lobworms on the leger at about 3-6 rod lengths. The person next to me had a 1lb 4oz perch quite early on, a nice looking fish but it had a milky liquid seeping from the bottom, now I may be being naïve, but does that mean it is a male? The fish are obviously starting to spawn, so is it still responsible and safe to the fish to keep on fishing for them at this time, or should they be left alone if possible for a few weeks? I was fishing for the perch as well, but also had a float rod out, I noticed that the roach weren't spawning, but they were quite small, do juveniles not spawn, is it just the bigger fish? I had this 1lb 3oz at mid afternoon. This fish was not (visibly) spawning. One thing I have started to notice with perch however, is that when fishing lob worms and dead baits with large micro barbed hooks (which I thought was best as the fish didn't swallow the hook) in sizes 8 and 6, the bigger fish seem to be hooked perfectly in the mouth, and can be unhooked almost immediately, but the smaller perch that take the bait swallow the hook right down as if you are using conventional barbless hooks, why is this? Good luck to anybody fishing tomorrow, doesn't look like a bad day, a bit windier than today though so might be a bit chilly. Thanks, Dave
  7. Interesting points about China. It all depends on if they are thinking logically doesn't it, they must know as soon as they fling a nuke they'll have ten times that thrown back, but it doesn't seem to phase them. Phone, what's the general opinion about the situation over the pond? Dave
  8. Shimano Alivios, got two of them at the moment. They aren't particularly expensive at about £30 each but they are brilliant little all rounders, good quality, durable and reliable. Can't fault them for the price I really can't. Dave
  9. The bottom line is, if Kim Jong Un (looked his name up) wants war, he will have it. The Americans need to stop antagonising them and try harder to communicate, but it is in North Korea's hands, they are either flexing their muscles or prepared to go to war. It seems a little disturbing that they keep making threats, despite any nuclear launch meaning the almost certain destruction of the small state. Dave
  10. Cheery tonight aren't you chesters
  11. They don't have an unlimited amount of nukes, they take a long time to make. I would imagine they will start flinging them at South Korea and the US, by then they won't have many left...We hope South Korea don't seem too bothered by it looking in the news, they seem to think nothing will come of it, let's hope they're right. Dave
  12. Further away as well. They can barely hit Alaska let alone London.
  13. What reason would North Korea have to bomb the UK?
  14. From what I read it seems NK has got no interest in the UK, just South Korea and the USA. Correct me if i'm wrong, but this seems like one of the few cases where we're not tarred with same brush as the yanks.
  15. Whoa rewind, no I'm not best mates with him and I don't speak Korean, however the country on a whole does seem to be a little behind and very isolated, and there's no better way to rile the brainwashed masses than with promise of a war, Hitler did a good job of it. Yes propaganda is a good way to start a war but it seems nobody wants a war but them, and although the yanks do seem to be winding them up a bit, it's only to show they won't back down and in response to the threats and action from NK. Dave
  16. True. Reading up on the Aegis technology that Japan, South Korea and the US have, that shoot down any missile before it re enters the earths atmosphere. Seems reassuring, and (head above the parapet) a better solution that nuclear arms if you ask me. Dave
  17. But do they have the capability to hit American soil? Some say that Kim (whatever his name is) is just flexing his muscles to take attention away from flaws in the country.
  18. All mouth and no trousers or a serious threat? What's your opinion? Should I not go fishing tomorrow and start building my bunker? Dave
  19. Thanks ATS It makes the blanks worthwhile doesn't it
  20. Thanks anderoo RobtheRake thanks, I certainly am! Dave H good luck, i'm going to try for the 3lb mark next, but like you with your 4lber I think it could be a while, all part of the fun though 1last cast, got it in one Thanks
  21. Never used nuts or cat meat but use a fair amount of luncheon meat for carp and chub in the summer months, didn't know it did any harm. I'm not disputing it but could you elaborate? Cheers
  22. Keep: Maggot0 (good all rounder), Lobworm (good for perch, chub and carp), Bread (another all rounder, also great fun suface fishing for carp in summer) Get rid of: Boilie (Never tried it, so don't need it), artificial baits (not had much luck on them, found actual bait worked better), hemp
  23. Steve - Thanks. It was getting to a point where I was seriously doubting myself and the methods I was using, so it's a real confidence booster today! Gozzer - Yes that is the pond, and yes it is still going through, 200 of them, they haven't gone in yet but it's only a matter of time now
  24. Spoilsport, got it in one! I achieved my target of breaking the 2lb barrier and broke my 1lb 7oz summer PB by 9oz..... next target, the 3lb barrier!!
  25. I arrived at the pond this morning at about 9 with two pots of lob and half a pint of red, intending to fish for the perch after a break of about 6 weeks following a string of blanks. There was a swan on the pond which has only been here a week, and sadly had caught a hook and line in his mouth, so I called the RSPCA and they told me they were very busy as it was a bank holiday but they would get out to me as soon as they could. It was reasonably mild and I was on the sunny side of the pond, with cows behind me to keep me company and the prospect of a good day. I set up a very basic leger rig, with just a run ring and arlesely bomb, bead, couple of float stops and about a foot and a half to a drennan size 6 microbarbed. 3lb mainline straight through and two halves of a lob tipped with red maggot. The rig was a little simpler and lighter than I normally fish but I thought it would be acceptable. I cast out at about 3 to 4 rod lengths straight in front of me and put it on the buzzer. I had the intention of fishing a float rod as well but I admit I was a bit lazy and decided to just stick to the one today. I had been there about half an hour to an hour and was on the phone to my dad when the bobbin slowly but steadily lifted, I dropped the phone mid conversation and struck when the bobbin was about two thirds up from the ground to the rod. At first I thought i'd missed it, but soon enough I felt the knock knock knock which said perch. It didn't fight very hard but plodded about for a good few tense minutes before I slid the net under it and put him down on the mat. I shouted to a friend on the far side to bring his scales, and he walked over whilst I unhooked him. The hook was just caught in the scissors of his mouth (Because I was using a barbed hook??) and it came out with no trouble. My friend got round to me and we zeroed the scales, put the fish in a damp carrier bag and weighed him. I got 3 pictures of him in the net but wanted to put him (or her) back quickly so didn't get a picture of me with it. The scales pulled round to.... Guess Not a huge fish compared to some fish that the people on here catch, but a new PB for me and one very happy fisherman after such an epically unsuccesful winter. Not the best pictures i'm afraid, but.... A chunky fish but slightly paler than normal. I put it back and it swum away strongly. After speaking to my friend for a while the RSPCA man had come out, and I spent the next couple of hours trying to catch a swan with him, much harder than you think if you've ever tried it!! I did get about three more hours fishing after lunch where I had two stonking bites but both times there was nothing on. The RSPCA man had tried for quite a while but admitted it was probably spooked and as it was not in immediate danger, it was feeding and swimming strongly he would try tomorrow with reinforcements. I packed up at about 4 with a big grin on my face and feeling content enough to last me for another 6 blanks....Although I hope that doesn't happen Tight lines, Dave
