yeh i hate that too when anything otehr than a huge carp is a nuisance fish, those type of anglers really have lost their way. And i agree with pearbo, alex bones drives me mad!
-
thanks for your help, if you cant get too the tackle shop and you just have them on their own are they still effective, or only really if you have a bed of maggots or maggots in the feeder? Thanks
-
How much luck have you had with these? I dont know how i feel with them, i want to try them, and i will, but how much difference do they make to real maggots is what i want to know, the little fish cant pick them off but they can still take them so i dont see the point. Obviously they are attractive because a couple on the hook will pop them up but i still dont see a great deal of benefit to them. After my little rant, what im trying to say is how effective have you found them to be? Any info would be much appreciated because they baffle me a bit i have to admit!!!!

thanks for the advice

I would keep trying because i once turned up at a lake and put single sweetcorn on a size 14 tight to an island and had a screaming bite off my bite alarm, sadly it got snagged and came off but hooking it does work, i think the fish that got away was about 15lb

ok thanks very much for the reassurance

I know its a bit early as we're just coming out of summer, but out of curiosity, what is a good winter bait? Not just for carp but for bream or tench or anything really. Ive heard meat is less effective in winter apart from peperami as it is spicy, i also thought of sweetcorn as it is bright and doesnt fill the fish up? And is there any fish that stop feeding almost altogether in winter? Cheers

As a cheap and easy bait i like to use sweetcorn a lot, but im just wondering how effective it is as a carp bait, ive had some nice roach and a few skimmers but nothing big on it before. For example if fishing tight to an island or something with a piece of sweetcorn on a size 14, how effective would you say that would be? If catapulting out a few pieces every few minutes as well would that bring in the carp? Just wondering if anybodys caught much on it? Thanks
-
ok thanks very much, will try under overhanging trees or something and maybe put less feed down to bring them in, just a big hookbait. I might also try a lobworm, never heard of bream being caught on lobworm, but i might be very wrong there

I have started fishing for carp but have found as soon as i start fishing all i catch are bream, dont get me wrong i like bream but it would be nice to catch what im aiming for. I used pellet in the feeder, maggot in the feeder, sweetcorn on the hook, even a big chunk of luncheon meat and still just bream!!! So, any tips on how to avoid bream and catch more carp?? I really cant think of a bait they wont go for or a method that will work so any advice would be great! Thanks P.S. I realise a big boilie would probably work but theyre banned on this lake, along with groundbait, nuts and pulses

thanks for your advice everyone, i live in somerset and the most local shops are tesco, co-op and a village shop. Co-op had some luncheon meat but was about £2 which i thought was a rip off. Didnt see chopped ham and pork, bacon grill or luncheon meat but i think i saw spam so i'll go back and see if thats not too expensive. I wanted to use peperami but i dont hair rig baits and found it too hard too hook so guessed it would be too hard to pull through on the strike. Thanks for the advice, very useful.

Sorry, i have been given one so no longer need one. I would delete it but i dont know how to. Thankyou anyway

i cant find tinned luncheon meat or chopped ham and pork in any of my local shops or supermarkets, just tinned ham, has anybody tried this or is it too soft? Could you also recommend a good place to buy cheap luncheon meat please

I live in south somerset and am getting a bit bored of fishing the same old places, ie ilminster canal, dillington pond, somerton viaduct, and my favourite, thorney lakes. Can anybody from the area recommend anywhere that is nearby and is a good place to fish?? Thanks

In this warmer weather im thinking of using marshmellow baits near or on the surface, 6lb mainline to the hook, with an arseley bomb and a bead in between, if you get me? So the marshmellow just floats to the surface with the casting aid of the weight. Anybody had much luck with marshmellow or this type of ledgering/float fishing??

So if pinched on, with the right size hook, how long will it stay on the hook for? Half an hour??

WANTED: A cheap but reliable, new or second hand quivertip rod with a 1 or 2oz tip or variety of tips for carp, bream, roach etc. Dont want to pay any more than £20, preferably less. If you have info on where to get one or if you are selling one i would appreciate it.

I would like to try and use bread more as a bait when ledgering for bigger fish, i get a bit paranoid about my bait being on the hook so what would be a good way to keep it on the hook for longer? Any advice would be useful

ok thanks, i thought it might have been hemp but i really didnt have a clue

I fish a local lake that contains some nice carp and bream, on the ticket it says no groundbait, no boilies, no nuts and no pulses. Just out of curiosity, what is a pulse? Im probably being stupid but i cant think for the life of me what it is....any ideas? thanks
-
ok thanks, i will try popping them off the bottom and use a bite alarm, thanks for your advice
-
yes i have used them a lot for perch but never tried them for carp so didnt really know how to go about it, im more used to float fishing a half inch size chunk for perch, not whole ones legered for carp

With the prices of pellets and boilies these days i have decided to try out some more natural baits. I have found some large lobworms in my garden and am planning to use them on the quivertip on thursday for carp. Any tips on this, im thinking one worm on a size 10 or 8 with either rubber maggot or a piece of rubber band to stop it coming off, and a basic free running ledger rig to keep it simple. Any advice on improving this? And has anybody had much luck with worms for carp?? Thanks
