  1. Hi all, i seem to be having problems with my marker float. The problem i have is somtimes the float wont rise up through the water. I'm using the KORDA MARKER FLOAT system with a braided main line.

Has anyone got any ideas why i'm having this problem ?

  2. Hi all, basically i'm trying to save abit of money on my bait by making my own. Ive never done this before and would like some oppinions on the matter.

I'm looking at this base mix,

    https://www.tackleuk.co.uk/#Mainline-Active...x-1kg/sp/548326

How much money are you saving if you were to make them ready made ?

    Here they are ready made,

    https://www.tackleuk.co.uk/#Mainline-Frozen...ies-1kg/sp/5179

I know they both weigh 1kg but obviously the ready made boilies have other ingredients in them to make up the weight where as the base mix is just 1kg of powder.

    Thanks Dave

  3. Yes there are serveral rod rest on the market to stop the rod going forward even fishing from a rod pod.

Either go for the Fox Duo grip rod rest at £4.99 (which i use and never have a problem with them) or the Fox Rod Lok at £7.99 or if you want to go even cheaper the John Roberts butt grip at £2.99

    Cheers bud

  4. Hi, after a great day's fishing yesturday i'm left with a problem.

Everytime a got a run on my rod the fish would pull my rod forward. I made sure my baitrunner wasn't under too much tension but it still pulled the rod along the pod.

Can you buy rod rest that screws into the rod pod that will grip the rod and stop it from sliding forward ?

    Thanks Dave.

  5. Did you do any good yesterday?

I changed my mind at the last minute and went to Holt Fleet fishery, i had a briliant day and caught 6 carp with the biggest being a personal best 17lb 3oz :)

I did go and have a walk round Skilts on Friday, it looks quite a nice little pool but the one problem i could see was the car park is a fair walk from the pool. I'm told you can get a day ticket from The Corn Stores in Crabbs Cross so i think i will have a day their soon.

  6. Hi all, had my first day's carp fishing yesturday.

I fished a place called MORTON SPRINGS FISHERY near studley in Worcestershire.

Not a pool with massive carp in but not many people fish it so i thought i would give it ago and not look a complete numpty to other people.

I set up with 12lb main line and 10lb fluorocarbon hook length, size 10 barbless wide gape hook, inline 2 oz lead and a flying backlead.

Bait was a mixture of different size pellets, crushed boilies and a fish meal ground bait.

I was using either a pellet or boilie hair rigged to the hook and was putting a pva stick on the hook with every cast.

I also used a micro spod just to get some bait in the area i was fishing.

It wasn't the best day but i did have 3 carp with the biggest of them just over 11lb

There are a few things that i'm confussed about.

I have read people say that you should feel the lead hit the bottom. Is there a technique to this because i never felt it hit the bottom.

Also is there away of knowing what your fishing on ? (Wead, clay, gravel etc)

All in all i really enjoyed my first day and now can't wait for the weekend :)

  7. Dave you can use a higher breaking strain hooklenght either in mono or braids if you want to but by doing that you're increasing less chance of catch a carp and also increase a greater risk if the of a tethered fish.

Are there any advantages of using these tactics ?

  8. Been for a walk round Earlswood lakes today and was talking to a few anglers about the rigs they were using.

One of them was using a braided look length which has a much higher breaking strain than the main line.

I'm now really confussed, why would you use these tactics ?

    Really don't understand that.

    Thanks, Dave

  9. Stop what you are doing!

You never use the same line as your main line The Adrenaline was NEVER design for hooklenght!

Here this what I should use - stick to the 12lb Korda Adrenaline as your main line and choose something either lower in the mono breaking of lesser breaking strain of either 8lb or 10lb but not in the Adrenaline!

Because you you did carry on using the same stuff as the main line then you're asking for trouble. There always a greater risk of the mainline snapping even if you have an safely lead clip (to dump the lead when snagged or not ) that you're leaving an hooklenght where it still be resulting a tether fish.

Because you're using the main line as some of the hooklength no wonder the boilie loop was kink!

Not having a go at you, but you need serious help in someone showing you the right way of fishing for carp.

I can help but need to arrange some time available for both of us to show you.

Ok bud, i'm going to buy some braid tomorrow but i don't know what strength to buy.

I'm going to be using 12lb Adenaline so what strength braid do you recommend ?

This Carp fishing game is becoming alot more technical then first thought

    Thanks Dave

  10. What knot are trying to do up - can't really understand the "hair loop kink" most hair loop which do if not done up right and it is depending on what hooklenght material you're you could be using mono or braid as far I know.

I do not know if there another knot for making the boilie loop as this is the most simple method of making a boilie loop or overhand loop for the knotless hair rig.

Here an suggustion - here a picture by picture or step by step insructions - I this put up for another website a few years ago - a bit slight of date but it is the same thing -

    knotless_knot.jpg

I am going to show you a step by step instruction on making a knotless knot rig.

    You need the following items.

    Braid hooklenght

    Carp hook

Boilie stop to match the colour of the boilie (if possible)

    Baiting needle

    Braid scissors

    1) Grab a small length of Braid hooklenght. There are various braid hooklenght on the market but choose the one you're most confident in. As for me I am using the Kryston Mantis Gold for photographic pictures. You can use either braid or mono hooklenght but again using braid for photographic pictures!

    Knotlessknot1.jpg

    knotlessknot2.jpg

    2) Remove a 1 inch strip of coating on the braid.

    knotlessknot3.jpg

And create a boilie loop or an overhand loop

    boilieloop.jpg

    3) Trim off the excess

    knotlessknot5.jpg

    4) Get a Boilie needle and thread the loop through the other end

    Knotlessknot6.jpg

    Knotlessknot7.jpg

    knotlessknot8.jpg

    5) Place a boilie stop which will stop the bait flying out when casting

    Knotlessknot9.jpg

    6) And it should end up like this.

    knotlessknot10.jpg

    7) Now thread a carp hook as in my case I am using a Mustad Eyed Method Feeder Hook Size 8 (Not made anymore by the Manufacture) on to the braid by going through the eye of the hook

    Knotlessknot11.jpg

    8) This is very important that the length must be critical. The ideal length is sometime 1/2" or more from the bend of the hook.

Then start whipping down the shank of the hook - minimum 5 turns to maximum 8 turns

    knotlessknot12.jpg

    knotlessknot13.jpg

    9) Once you have made your choice on how many turn on the shank then you pass through the eye again and pull really tight

    knotlessknot14.jpg

On the other end of the braid hooklenght you tied on a swivel of your choice, here I am using an half bloodknot

    IMG_0413-Knotlessrig15.jpg

    And the finish half bloodknot

    IMG_0414-knotlessrig16.jpg

And there you are a knotless knot rig.

If you can't make this then I suggest you buy the already made carp rigs in the tackle shop which could work out quite expensive than making your own!

Hi and thanks again for such a detailed response.

Ive basically tied the full knotless knot rig but the problem i have is when i tie the Boilie loop the line sort of kinks at the knot of the loop.

Kind of hard to explain but the knot doesn't sit straight.

Just tried a boilie on the loop and the weight of the boilie straightens the loop.

Don't think it's anything to worry about.

Im using 12lb mono by the way

    Thanks Dave.

  11. Hi all,

i'm really struggling with the actual hair. The problem i have, is when i tie the loop of the hair it kinks.

Is there another knot i could use to tie the loop to make presentation better ?

    Thanks Dave

  12. You can email them (Tardebigge Reservoir website) if you want to try your luck on the guest tickets but again in my veiws and opinion that you're not experince enough to tackle it - sorry but I do know alot more areas where you can go carping but it mean either joining up a fishing club which I am already a member of, or stick to some of the waters which I will private e-mail to you (if you want it)?

Yeah if you could that would be great ! I do tend to get bored of the same lake over and over again, i would like to switch it up from week to week.

    Thanks Dave

  13. I believe that only applied you're already a member of the tardebigge reservoir that you're allowed to take guest! I don't it means that you allowed to go up there and hopefully pay £15.00 per 24 Hours

    Oh :o

It's abit confussing the way they have worded that

  14. Yes I do know a lot about Tardebigge Reservoir As I use to do a lot of pike fishing in the winter before it became a syndicate water!

But for carping in the other months - no! And I wouldn't recommended it either as in my opinion it is too advance for you!

Learn to the simple methods of carping before tackling anything in bigger water!

I had a feeling it would be, just going to stick to the easier waters at the moment and maybe in a couple of years give it a go.

    Thanks Dave

  15. For starters how about ?

Arrow Valley Lake, Earlswood Lakes - (Engine lake) as they are on day tickets. Can't remember how much they're now as it been I long time since I fish there for carping.

Best tactic for both water above is boilie with a method feeder specimen style.

Yeah i used to fish Arrow Valley for Bream with very good results.

I'm going to fish it on Sunday, fingers crossed for some good fish.

Just wondering if you know anything about Tardebigge Resevoir ? Ive heard it's a syndicate water but they do allow 24 hour tickets.

Not sure if thats true but it maybe worth considering ?

  16. Hi Dave, that depending on what you want to do as is it a syndicate water, or fishing club or pleasure fishing for the carp fishing and also depending how much are you willing to pay out for a session. I did notice that you don't mind traveling in order to get to the venues.

Also do you just want days fishing or night fishing? Beginners waters or advanced waters

I do know quite a few waters in the area but I can't start on what you want to do.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

I'm just started carp fishing so i don't want the fishing too tough. I would just like a day ticket at the moment and would like a lake where i can get used to using different techniques. Not really to bothered about price.

I have been fishing Broad Acres but to be honest ive had enough of the place. Too many people fish it and there's too many rules for me to learn different techniques, I mean they won't even let me use bite alarms.

    Thanks, Dave

  17. Hi all, ive been fishing for years but never Carp fished. Ive always been into my Bream fishing but this year im going to give Carping ago. Ive just invested in some tackle, 2 rods, 2 reels, 2 bite alarms, bobbins etc. My question is what line do i need for my reels ? For Bream fishing it's a standard 4 to 6lb line but i really don't have a clue for Carp fishing. I will be fishing a lake which has Carp running to 30lb and will be using a 2.75lb test curve rod.

Any response would be much appreciated.

P.S It's an expensive hobby this Carp fishing !
