  1. Superglueing maggots end to end what an interesting idea. Do you have a photo? Were would be the best place to hook them? Would you get the same effect buy hairriging maggots length was if you could? What species are you catching on this method I would of thought smaller fish would attack and suck the life out the maggots furthest away from the hook. how long do they stay glued together for.

  2. Can any body help me with stret pegging? I tried this on Saturday morning with mixed success I caught a few fish but I think it was more by accident then design. I used a stick float fished 2 feet over depth which held the float in place fine but when I got a bite the float did not go under and the rod went round more like a quiver tip would. I had the bulk of my shot around 12inchs from the hook then the rest of the line pined to the deck by strung out No 8. the float was not lying flat on the surface but more like I was holding it back when stick float fishing I was using a 17foot float rod and fishing about 15 foot from the bank with the rod tip pointing to the sky and none of the line lying on the surface. I have never seen this method being used before so I am not sure if I was doing it right? But I did not feel right do any of you here have any tips?

  3. I think its all relative to the fish that are resident in the places you fish. Catching a perch over 2lb in the river were I live is not a difficult task in fact I seem to catch more over the pound mark then under it. This has not always been the case before I fished this river I had hardly ever caught any decent perch a perch over a pound would have been a massive fish. Not sure if we are in a golden age of perch fishing but what I think is that a lot more people are trying to catch them.

  4. I fished for carp on the Kennet and Avon canal thought the closed session. The carp were not difficult to catch the problem was with finding them. You say you saw a lot of bubbles mid river canals can be misleading what you think my be fish feeding my just be a prior disturbance from passing boats I get a lot of boast traffic through this particular part of the canal.

Is there many bream in the section you want to fish and for that matter are you sure there are carp in the area they may have been caught there before but that does not mean they are still there. Once I had located the fish I found the most effective way of targeting them was either float fished luncheon meat as close as I could get to the far bank as possible or zig rig bread cast to the far bank as far as boilies go theirs is no reason that carp should not take them if they are confident in feeding on them so pre baiting likely spots with the hook baits is a good idea.

15 baits every day would be a good starting point a couple of hungry carp can polish those of in no time. I was pre baiting with both flavoured and standard check peas they less likely to get eaten by the shoals of bream and roach and they are cheap. In the section of the canal I fished there were quite a lot match anglers I would always ask them if they had seen or hooked any carp (most of the carp in the canal are well in to double figures with 25lb fish not uncommon so you no when you attached to one of those on the pole) don’t be put of using maggots for the carp they are also very effective but you can be pestered buy other species.

  5. great fish you have there I also have still yet to catch a lady of the river but I am trying. they are shoal fish my mate had one first cast with his new pin so i thought my turn next but no grayling for me yet.

  6. Out on the bank last Friday to start of my roach campaign it hammered it down all day, ended up taking a good net of fish including an 6 14lb bream on the stick which was a surprise. My problem was I lost a few good size roach I was wondering what the best hook would be to use for trotting bread and keeping the bigger fish on the hook with out messing up presentation. I use a fine wire kamasen B611 at the moment with a light stick rod to cushion the strike but just when I think I am getting the better of them the hook pulls getting very frustrating any body help?

Is hemp worth using I coloured water? The only baits I take when roach fishing on the stick is bread and casters am I missing a trick?

  7. I am having problems tying hook lengths the same size. I was sat down last night tying hook lengths starting of by attaching my loop to a fixed point then striping line of the spool at the length I wanted then tying my hook using a spade hook tyre I did the same thing five times and ended up with five different hook lengths? Any body got any tips? Don’t really won’t to adjust the depth on the float every time I change my hook link.

  8. i was putting in five evening sessions and two early mornings a week for 6 weeks stright and most were fish were on live bait bleak and small dace. iam lucky becuase the river i fish is full of good perch and its only 5 minitue walk from my house. and the missis started to get in to it but no its a little cold for her so not out on the bank as much as i would like

  9. If you were going to buy an old second hand good condition pin for light stick float fishing what would you go for? I have seen quite a few go for around 40 quid such as the Trudex and the rapidex pins. Whats the difference and would it be worth it.

  10. Its about this time of year when I dust off my spinning gear for river pike and perch. I tend to use larger lures around 6 to 8 inch’s mainly floating variety that dive to about 4 to 8 feet of water(the rivers that I fish are around 12 to 16 feet deep) even the smallest of perch will have ago at big lures. It could be that the lures that you are using are to light for the rod to cast is it a jerk rod or a light spinning outfit? Plus you don’t always have to cast across the river to catch fish that are under your feet most predators at this time of the year are still extremely active and hunting fry try the marginal shelf. As far as swim selection goes fish the swims you normally would plugs tend to work best across the flow and towards it were as spoons work just as well in any direction as long as you don’t loose contact with the lure casting up stream. Also there are lots of jigs about which are very effective fished correctly.

  11. I have a couple of problems with bait droppers. These little bits of kit are probably the most helpful piece of end tackle that I have however my problem with them is that the options available to me are either too big or small and they cost me ten quid a pop and as I lost three in one session two too snags one to a very confused pike, so I was wondering if any body knows how to make them? I was thinking about an adapted tuna can any ideas/help.

  12. go shimano all the way the new GT range has smooth drag system with a fighting drag lever which enables you to turn the drag down very quickly. it comes with three spools and will cope with any style of light/medium feeder and float work. i uesd to play a lot of fish off back wind but the drag on the modern reels is very good.

  13. I recently bought a 40 year old glass fiber match rod which is in mint condition along with a Grice and Young Avon supreme center pin which is also in good condition for £40 off ebay(getting slightly addicted) the rod is a throw back to when I first started fishing and starting to prefer to my new rods anyhow the center pin is not as free running as I would like it spins true and all the mechanisms work as they should, I gave it a good clean an oil now it runs smoother but makes a very slight noise? Does anybody know how to stop this and help the reel to spin a little easier. (it spins for about 30 seconds given a good batt but needs a little encouragement to start spinning)
