  1. Been trying to catch big perch using small live bait bleak and dace getting plenty of takes but only connecting with about one in ten takes using a small chuber float with a size 8 hook is their a more effective rig that I can be using? I am hitting the takes very quickly so to not deep hook the fish?

  2. Does anybody know a good float rig for fishing deep rivers around 12 to 14ft a meter or so from the bank it’s quite a slow flow. Mainly targeting roach dace and chub but there are some very big perch that hang around too. Only have a thirteen foot rod looking to get a longer rod anybody got any suggestions for a mid range product and help with the rig?

  3. The spot where I am fishing is no ware near any locks so mooring up to go thorough the lock is not an issue. It a stretch of free fishing but boats have to buy an overnight ticket to more my question really is that if I am fishing there do I have to move to let the boat in or not? The people that moor there are holiday type who have never been on a canal boat before so both of us are in the dark on who has the spot

  4. A quick question does any body know who has the right of way I have recently had a few problems with canal boats trying to moor in my swim both on the river and on the canal any body help?

  5. I have spent age’s feature finding and pluming up swims on my local river which is very time consuming just saw an article on wireless fish finders/sonar to give me the exact depth and features apparently. Has anybody used this type of technology and if so how did you get on with it. would other anglers frown upon this like some do with bait boats?

  6. Over the years I have made some massive mistakes from falling in the river when stalking carp to burning through my line with a cigarette when playing a good fish but perhaps the worst mistake, was on Saturday when I went for a nice feeder fishing session down at my local river, had some nice perch and chub which was good unfortunately I took the missis with me and she enjoyed it and wants to go again. Can anybody help me with ways of putting her off and leavening me in peace?

  7. Question to the forum

I’ve caught all sorts of fish on all sorts of baits from pike on cheese to tench on a plumit. The only fish that I have not had is a perch on trout pellet or paste has anybody managed to catch one?

  8. Hi all I am very new to fly fishing and in need of some advice. My problem is that the only water that I can fish is a slow flowing deep river (3m deep). There are some massive brown trout in the river but all I seem to catch are perch, roach and chub not that I complaining but it would be nice to have a big trout on the end of the line. Does anybody have any tips for fishing this type of water?

  9. Hi to all. first of all i have been looking over these forums all day and have found noting so i hope someone here can help me :)

i am going to be fishing for pike for the first time in the next few weeks and i am looking for as many rigs as i can find. most of all i would like to no how to float fish for pike in weedy waters with dead baits. i have a couple of carp rods and reels which i have filled with 18lb line and i have brought some trace 24lb and i have a few pier fishing floats but i have no bite alarms and for some reason never liked the idea of using them anyway. i am wondering if anyone here has any ideas of how to fish with these floats with dead baits while not getting snagged up every 5 minutes because of the amount of weeds that are in my local lakes. i have all the other kit i would need and money is not an issue but i would still prefer not to be buying bite alarms or very expensive kit as i only pleasure fish. oh also what are the best dead bates to use as i have seen people using half mackerel and things like that but i don't no if my float would hold that sort of weight so any other advice would be a huge help. many thanks peeps! oh and i will let ya'll no how i get on. Cheers guys! Finlayson

There are lots of different thing to take into consideration when targeting pike so a little more info would be needed. What time of the year do you intend to fish for them?

  10. It’s a slow flowing deep stretch of the river Avon around bath. Good head of bream chub roach and some massive perch normally takes a good few hours for the fish to move in on the feed but don’t have the time to wait anymore looking to turn up and catch really.

Done some reading on vitalin but not sure on how to prepare the stuff lucky enough no crayfish in the river at the mo so don’t have that problem. An advice welcome

  11. Can anybody help? I am new to fly fishing (only a couple of weeks) and managed to lose my spare spool with my six weight line on it. I borrowed a reel with a seven weight line it has improved my casting distance but my presentation has gone to pot. The line ends up in a heap on the water anybody got any pointers.

  12. Try using flake (or corn) flatten it down so I sinks very slowly through the water column. Then leave on the deck for about 30 seconds see if anything takes an interest in it. Had some lovely rudd and roach with that method.
