  2. Hi there, im after a few bits of cheap but serviceable carp gear, top of my list is a unhooking mat, a bivvy, maybe a nice rod pod bite alarms or even rods or other bits and bobs of tackle, im wanting to get into carp fishing but as a cheap hobby and cant afford brand new top spec gear... Pm me or reply here Thanks Dave
  3. Im not a new fisherman i fished many years ago, The lake were fishing on has no fish feeding on the surface else i would have probably used a bubble float.... we got a few nice fish nothing spectacular but pretty much all perch bar that one trout i mentioned... hence wanting to try the trout pellets on a hair rig style setup... as were needing to get out past the rocky part of the lake... spinning was unsucessfull i tried for best part of 3 hours without even a little bit of interest on it.. tried 3 or 4 different spinners.... then went onto worms on a leger and the perch were going mad for them but only the 1 trout caught and maybe another missed trout bite judging from how the line went flying off the reel.. The other reason i dont want to fly fish is because i dont have the gear to fly fish and im trying to get together a carp setup for going carp fishing on odd occasions... I just enjoy catching fish basically and trying different techniques the weekend just gone was the 1st time i fished using a sliding leger setup and it was fun except a few snags due to the terrain of the lake...
  4. We just get one day rod licences as we only go now and then.... maybe the minnow technique would be the way forward as worms were just pulling in perch... could always have one rod with a minnow flapping about and one rod with bread maybe....
  5. Was only thinking the hair rig because its a good way of putting a trout pellet on the hook and i could set it as a floater to try and lift the pellets a touch try and make it something different
  6. Hi there, i have just started fishing a lake with my father in law just for social fun etc also we take my little brother in law... were fishing a lake that has brown trout and perch from what i saw when we were last there none of the trout feed on the top.. we were ledgering/feeding with worm on the hook this only landed us one small brown trout around 1 1/2 maybe just over 2lb at a push.. We landed numerous perch tho all a ok size for perch but its the trout we want... so i was looking into trying trout pellets on a hair rig style set up i think the setup is on the website here.... Does anyone think trout pellets would work better than the worms just to reduce the number of perch... Unfortunately im using a carp rod and bait runner reel.. i was thinking a 5/6 lb hook length of around 8-12 inches in length...what hook size would you use with pellets... Any advice on this setup would be good.. will also point out its not a stocked lake so the fish arent too use to new food types etc... Thanks again Dave
  7. I used to fish the basingstoke canal.. I dont know if the one your fishing is similar or not but i always found the pole best for the narrows and the rod for the flashes... i used to use 6lb line on my reel with various hooklengths made up around 2-4 lb breaking strain.. altho the biggest fish i ever pulled from that canal was a 4 1/2 lb Tench never saw anything near that size except that occasion.. Dont know if this helps much just from my personal experiences.
