so today i fished on the canal used very light gear with size 20 hook as a lot of you have said would be a good idea. I was wondering does wind affect fishing. I fished for about 6 hours and only caught one fish. any help would be awesome

hi all, im new to fishing and im going fishing tomorrow on the canal near me in nuneaton. Im just after any tips.. i know how to find out the depth and set my rod up (13ft match rod) is a 20 size hook ok? i was thinking about using pinkies? any tips you guys could give me would be awesome. thanks lewis

well i was using bread and sweetcorn on a size 18 hook. im not the best with explaining the kit as im really just a beginner but i used a basic float set up with a shot each side of the float and about 3 shot spread out down towards the hook with the last one about 6 inch from the hook. i think the bait was lying on the bottom of the canal is that right? also i was using a 2.8meter keenets match rod and a small reel with i think its 2lb line not 100% sure though. hope this helps.

so i am like the most beginner of beginners in fishing and today was the first time i went on my own. I really dont know much about fishing as im just getting into it. So i turned up at the canal this morning with all my new gear i used bread and sweetcorn as bait i was there from 9am til 3pm and caught nothing all day i had a couple of indications of bites but didnt catch anything. I did see a massive fish near the bank swim near the surface so i know there are fish but i had nothing at all. Is this a beginners thing or do all the best fisherman get days like this because i was hooked when i went with my dad last week and first time on my own to catch nothing i was gutted! i used a basic float set up with shot's divided down the line. I was told bread would be good for catching on the canal and i was really excited this morning lol. anyway enough of my rant hope someone can give me some tips or some sort of relief to know that some of you top guys have bad days like this. also there werent many people fishing to ask how they did but the ones i did ask said they had had bites and a couple of roach! so come on guys am i doing anything wrong or was it just one of those days???

not sure if anyone knows the answer to this but i want to fish on coventry canal in nuneaton just wondered if there are any rules or costs with this. I have a rod licence for the year but didnt know if there was any other costs involved. i have searched the internet but cant find anything! im new to fishing and any help would be well appreciatted thanks

hi there im new to fishing! i went with my dad last week and its got me hooked! ok so as im a beginner i dont know much. I just bought my licence and im raring to go! I was just wondering can you fish all year round? i have a canal near me and i want to fish that and also there are fisheries near me too which i want to fish just wondered what the rules are around fishing all year round??? hope someone can help THANKS
