Has anyone got one, used one, know anything about them?

Think im going to get myself one for when the weather gets better :D

hi i actually looked at the same 2 poles a week back and even tho the maver feels better to me it only having one top kit is a bit of a problem and i dont know how easy the spare parts are to get if you do want anpther top kit or cupping kit ect.. best thing to do about the middy white knuckle is get it out at full lenght in the shop and hold it for a few mins to test the weight ofit .. i always do that before i buy a pole ... but the middy has 2 top kits which is a bonus but you dont really need more then 2 kits if your jus pleasure fishing .. if you can get anbother top kit for the maver i would get that instead of the middy .. hope ive helped

  2. Following on from Richard's excellent breamy bobbins topic, I'd like to get opinions on some of the more specific things about big (15lb+) bream in low-stock waters.

I've been thinking about rigs and I think I've come to the conclusion that they don't actually matter that much, as long as they don't tangle. What do you reckon? I can see the benefits of both semi-fixed and free running. I think I'm favouring free running.

Bait on a hair or on the hook? Again, I don't think it matters too much, but I would probably use a hair for semi-fixed and on the hook for free-running.

Amount of bait - as there aren't many fish probably not that much actual food but a fair amount of attraction?

Bait - any preferences? I'm not convinced it matters too much. Corn, boilies, maggots, worm, caster...

hi ... i was at a water a few months back called farlows lake located ion west drayton , middlesex and its full of bream there .. i caught about 60lb of bream in 5hours smallest being 3lb to 7lb .. i use a free running cage feeder with a 12'' hook lenght with 2 peices of corn haired to a size 12 hook .. that catches me loads of bream . but ive also caught them on pellets and boilies but corn has been the most sucessful for me.. i aint caught a double figure bream yet even tho that lakes has a 19lb bream init .. hope ive helped with my little info on the subject

  3. Ok, so I am after a feeder rod. I currently have a Red Wolf feeder rod which I purchased for like £18.99 its 11ft and came with two quiver tips. Downsides are: Reel doesn't screw in, it has the plastic push rings, handle is like felt (I prefer Cork) also the tips seem to be the exact same only different colours.

Its served me really well, I have had Carp up to 10lb on it, and used in conjunction with 12lb line so its really been given a beating (And still works perfectly!)

I am now after (Not a replacement) but a feeder to use as a primary rod keeping my old one for seconds.

    I have spotted this:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/11FT-CAMO-CARBON-FIS...9#ht_2245wt_905

sadly it doesn't state test curve ect:

Price range. Anything up to about £35..... I use heavy line and a good reel so I will need something that can take a good beating. Also I have a habit of uprooting trees on the opposite bank so I need something I can pull firmly without risk of failure.

Any recommendations? I know my budget is low, but I spent £18.99 on the one I have now and its worked brilliantly for 3 years, I have literally abused the poor rod but it still stands strong!

Any recommendations or comments on the above rod would be much appreciated.

    Dan

hi dan .. i fyou havnt got a feeder rod yet .. i would suggest getting an extra £10-£15 anf get a maver abyss feeder rod there really light in weight and have 3 interchangable tips.. also cork handle and its 12ft ... good rod

i just got one aswell as the garbolino carp rocket feeder which i bought for £34.99 thats also another option you could go for also a nice rod .

  4. I would give those Preston method feeders a go with some soaked pellets on the feeder (Like a paste)

For hook try using Corn on hair rig, or a 15mm Boilie cut into a cube (I call them stim Cubes) and they seem to work better than standard for me.

thanks ill give them a try later on today ..

  5. Is it these?

    http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT...GK3mvbmyvHa0MQ=

If so I use them and they are amazing! I use the mould also.

For Carp I use Corn/Meat on the hook. For the feeder I get some 3mm pellets, chuck them in a bait box and add boiling water (Until they are just covered) then leave with the lid on for about 1-2 hours. I sometimes add a dash of Scopex to them also.

You then get a really nice paste which is perfect for the method feeder.

I have used Groundbait with it also which works really well. I normally make it a little wetter than usual so it holds the hook-bait better.

    hi mate ,

yeah there the ones i got . i got some sonubaits groundbait aswell .. i will get some pellets and give it a try as im fishing this afternoon after work and possibly stay the night as i aint night fished in a while ...

p.s what type of pellets should i use ??

  6.

Hi im a new member at a fishing lake but been fishing for a couple years now and i have been feeder fishing now for about a month or so and only been using cage feeders as i been fishing on shallow waters .. i went out yeterday and bought a couple preston method feeders ..

so any tips on what baits or equipment to use would be helpful .. thanks

  7. I'm suprised anyone's ever caught.

I fish at least once a week on average, often on easily accessed park waters and canals but it's been over ten years since I was last asked to produce my rod licence by an EA bailiff. It dosen't stop me buying one though.

Has anyone here actually been asked for theirs recently?

    Will

i always buy a rod lisence but i havnt been asked for one for a long time .. i fish the canal alot and alot of commercial waters i go fishing atleast 3-4 times a week if not more n i dont get asked for one .. someones not doing their jobs properly

  8. Hi i was wondering if anyone had any tips on fishing this lake as im a new member.. i been there 3 times and caught 5-6 carp rangeing from 3-8lbs i know the bigger ones of over 20lbs are here but its hard finding them .. and ideas on what baits to use .. o what method would be best .. i been fishing method feeder on a garbolino feeder rod ..

  9. Jib the pole and get yourself some appropriate gear, then fish for them legitimately!

Sounds like you had fun, so imagine a 10, 15, 20 pounder!

yeah i got some proper gear fopr pike fishing but jus fancied pole fishing that day .. was an unexpected guest lol

  10. I assumed it was a mis-typed 2, unless it was a very small worm! Mind you, that's a very big hook for a worm.

i thought a size 20 was qite a small hook the orms i had was lobs which were a bit big for the hook i was useing lol .. i wasnt really expecting to catch anything like that but was really good that i did .. :)

  11. Pike on the pole! Sounds like it would have been a pretty interesting time lol, can't wait to see the pics!

Ye was very unexpected but great at the same time ..

they put up a good fight very strong fish ..

the pics will be up about 3pm today ..

  12. I would do a quick a search on here as there have been quite a few posts on this recently. Also I would say do NOT have a go at it alone if you are not going to be confident in handling and unhooking the pike. They are very fragile and easily damaged by inexperience. It is worth going with somebody who knows what they are doing before attempting it on your own.

Also have a good read of this site Clicky

oh no i understand your concern for the fish's welfare but dont worry .. i wont be alone i will be with someone that has done this type of fishing before .. ive handles them in the past but jus never fished for them if that makes sense lol . and yeah they are very fragile fish ,

  13. I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE COULD HELP ME OUT ..?

I WANT TO DO PIKE FISHING IN THE NEXT MONTH OR SO BUT NEVERDONE IT BEFORE .. SO IF ANYONE COULD GIVE ME ANY TIPS ON WHAT TACKLE TO USE AND BAITS N STUFF THAT WOULD BE GREAT .. THANKS ALOT

    RICH

  14. He should of told us how he did ?

DEPENDS WHERE UR FISHING REALLY TO WHAT BAITS TO USE ..

IF YOUR FISHING A CANAL USE PINKIES THERE ALWAYS GOOD TO GET YOU STARTED . BUT I USUALLY TAKE MAGGOT , PINKIE , WORM , BREAD , SWEETCORN..

BUT MAINLY PINKIE BREAD AND MAGGOT FOR CANAL REST I USE IS ON LAKES ..

  15. YESTERDAY I WAS FISHING MY LOCAL LAKE ON THE POLE EXPECTING TO CATCH SOME SMALL CARP AND TENCH , BREAM YOU KNOW THE USUAL FISH . WASNT GETTIN MUCH SO I THOUGHT I WOULD TRY A COUPLE WORMS SO I PUT THEM ON AND AS I LOWERED IT INTO THE WATER TO PUT THE OTHER SECTIONS ON A PIKE SHOT OUT THE REEDS AND TOOK THE BAIT AFTER A 6-7 MINUTE BATTLE AS I ONLY HAD SMALLISH ELASTIC ON AND SMALL LINE I MANAGED TO LAND IT. AFTER UNHOOKIN IT SAFLEY AND WEIGHING THE PIKE IT WAS 5lb 8oz ..

HERES THE TACKLE I WAS USEING ..

    : 2010 DAIWA SR1 PLUS 13M POLE

    : SIZE 10 ELASTIC

    : SIZE 20 HOOK

    : 5LB MAINLINE

    : 4LB HOOK LENGH

    : BAIT - WORMS

I WILL UPLOAD A PIC OF THE FISH LATER ON TODAY FOR THOSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO SEE .. THANKS

  16. What I will say is when using it and playing a large fish, let the elastic do the work. Don't lift the pole high in the air but keep the tip low and with a slight angle to the fish. Make sure you don't point the pole directly at the fish as the top set can be pulled off. Keeping the pole long slowly ship the pole back when the elastic is retracting and once you have got hold of the top set then you cna lift the fish to the net. Try lifting 6 or metres of pole into the air and you are asking for a breakage.

hi i have a daiwa sr1 13.m pole and i was wondering what would be the best set-up for carp and tench as ive only been fishing on the pole for a couple months now.. and been catching silverfish mostly .. and what baits should i use .. thanks alot

  17. It all depends on the type of river you are fishing.

For a deep/slow moving river (Normally pretty wide) I would recommend using ledger as a general method. That way you have the ability to cast to most areas you thing the fish are.

    Equipment for this:

Feeder rod, ledger or method feeder (Depends on the strength of the current) and baits such as Corn/Meat/Maggot are often a good starting point.

As for the thinner/quicker moving rivers I would say head for a float rig at first. Try and find some overhanging snags and trot a float rig down with something like Maggot/Bread ect: and see what turns up!

    Good luck :D

thanks . im not sure what the rivers like as i aint been there yet .. im fishing it saturday but i will use your advice n see how i get on and ill let you know ...

i dont have a method feeder yet but i shall visit my local tackle shop and pick one up .. i usually use cage feeders or maggot feeders ..

only jus started feeder fishing about a month ago to be honest i usually carp fish..

thanks anyways mate ... speak soon
