  1. i need reference photo's of thick-lipped, thin-lipped, and golden mullet. i have a fair idea of how to distinguish the species, but just recently its all getting confused somehow. i am flyfishing (no chum, just sight fishing with the fly proper), for all three species here in the channel islands, and having some success. but i have a horrible feeling i returned a 5.3lb thin-lip, without much thought the other day, and its playing on my mind. also, can these fish interbreed, so as to create hybrids ?. if you can help, please send me some info via email.
  2. forget it. if you are not wading get an orvis plastic line bowl, with the cones in it. if you are wading use your other hand to hold the coils. basically, you don't want anything to stop your line clearing, when you hook a good fish.
  3. well yes and no. frozen bait of any kind sucks big time anyway. but it can work, and is better if you remove any traces of the skin, which by this time has started to turn pink. Fresh squid is much better, if you can get it. Now, there is a method called popping squid, which i have used to massive effect on lots of fish. hook the squid the wrong way round, and the mantle will act like a popping plug. pop it two or three times, then let it sink slowly for a few seconds. hold on !!.
